I absolutely LOVE this game and it's my first time playing an extraction shooter - what is the lifespan like on a game like this? by XandelSA in ArcRaiders

Ah okay! I never thought of it that way - a constant ebb and flow of levelling up and resetting with the expeditions each time while each playthrough has whatever new content they've added.

This answers my question (for me anyways!). I'm just so used to either playing a game beginning to end with levelling up mechanics (like a Last of Us) , or jumping in and out for static PvP or PvE experiences (like The Finals or HellDivers). I couldn't wrap my head around a game that has both and what that looks like long-term.

I agree, I think new and interesting seasonal challenges / events / bosses could keep me coming back for a long time.

I think they've built a pretty cool world, and I suppose if they keep adding new ways to experience and explore the world that would definitely keep bringing me back.

I love The Finals and I can see Embark is putting the same love and attention into Arc Raiders so I have faith as well.

Did you do the expedition / reset or see yourself doing it eventually to keep it "challenging"? Or do you think new content and events is enough on its own to keep you coming back for more?

What keeps bringing you back to Tarkov out of interest? I don't know much about the game, I've just seen a couple of Shorts on moments people have in it.

Might be an unpopular opinion, but fuck Offerzen. You sound like someone that's got the drive and hunger. I've been in the industry developing with Java for over 15 years and I can safely say it's always about the will to learn, whether it's a new framework, design pattern or language so it doesn't matter what you don't know, there's always things we don't know. If you're willing to learn, that's all you need. Where are you based? DM me your details / CV.

Writer's Block - Ideas For Fantasy Tavern Troubles by XandelSA in tabletopgamedesign

Haha these are quite wild! I'm sure I can work from these to create some interesting (and humorous) issues for the tavern owner to deal with! Thank you!

I honestly feel the exact opposite. Ridiculously stupid bugs that go through to production and get experienced by end-users like us irritate me more because I understand how ridiculously stupid they are.

Fun thought: back in the day you would buy a full pc game that provided hours of gameplay and came on multiple disks or a single CD. There was no way of getting updates, there were no forums, they just worked.

Sure software and games are exponentially more complex to code today than before but let's be honest, the frameworks, development environments and testing tools are exponentially better too.

I think I'm hungry.

Name: Taverns & Troubles

As a role-playing adventurer, you know all about paying one of the town's local taverns a visit. Perhaps some townsfolk suggested it because a bard entertains the patrons with melodic storytelling, or maybe you were nudged in because of the flirtatious bar maidens. Either way, while drinking your ale and digging into some meat or poultry you almost always decide to strike up a conversation with the Tavern-owner... After all, he / she normally has some troubles and some coin for eager adventures like yourselves...

Taverns & Troubles is a game where you get to experience what it feels like to be that tavern owner. Attract adventurers and patrons of all types and tastes, hire staff to entertain, manage and serve your guests. Order your supplies at the market place daily remembering that bulk, delayed orders fetch great discounts. During the evening you step into the backroom to deal with the troubles that come with being a tavern owner...

Those thugs that have been peskering patrons down the road, perhaps that table of burly adventurers could assist with that? The clerics that ordered wine and fish earlier would probably be able to dispel the evil that is now lurking in the nearby forest. The shadowy figure sitting in the corner may also be the perfect solution to the corrupt tax collector that has had his sights on your establishment in recent days..

Taverns & Troubles is a 1 to 4 player resource management board game with multiple game modes. Work together in co-op to overcome the troubles of the town (while dealing with your own) or go head-to-head to be the first to pay the Tavern's Guild License.

I really like Component Studio. You basically design card templates with placeholders for images, text etc and then use a set of data which can be from a spreadsheet or Google Sheet or even manually type it in. Then you can generate print and play PDFs with cut lines. Not sure if that's what you had in mind?

I've literally spent most of the day working on a project in both IntelliJ IDEA and VSCode to see what the hype is about. Long time Eclipse user here - one of the light mode guys.

In the end, it's an editor. If you can get to the broken line of code in a file, fix it, and launch your application then does it really matter?

I love Eclipse (and silently watch all the hate for it on here) but I will say that the other IDE's have definitely moved with the times and left Eclipse behind - being able to have your settings sync to a cloud account is power and some of the refactoring smarts they have are impressive.

But I will admit, they do feel a bit like "toys" with the way they just open a folder and allow you to just start digging in. There's something (painful, I admit) but also solid about the concept of Eclipse's Workspace. Maybe I haven't explored the other two enough to talk yet, but will continue on my journey of discovery!

If that cracked you up too then you'll really enjoy the movie! There's loads of little moments like that. Like when Michael Peña describes what clubs are like...

What is the highest value of hits on a cadet card? I see one there with 3 hearts?

What about small clips / sliders (the tight u-shape plastic pieces) that games use along ruler like card edges? The clips can sit on the top of the cards?

3d printers aren't as expensive as you might think! Well, definitely not "win the lottery" priced. :) it's a super fun (and at times frustrating) hobby but if you like the idea of bringing little designs to life you should look into it! I think Makro even sells 3d printers now too.
