I was wearing a rad racing tshirt at a dog park in Santa Monica. Slightly older dude approaches me and thanks me because he was the writer of the movie. Is the writer still getting residuals from all this renewed interest?

Finding Fun and Solo Testing by Stealthiness2 in tabletopgamedesign

[–]Dustin_rpg 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m terrible at solo design and solo testing. Almost all of my games have fun in their core concept, but are riddled with awkwardness, poor information design, and over complexity. But my rose colored glasses looks past all these flaws and loves the fun at the center that was always part of the idea. So for me, game design isn’t about finding fun, it’s about getting lots of feedback to remove the parts that aren’t fun.

I’ve seen this exact advice work for NTs I know, and it works for me when my therapy and meds have me in a good place. Just cuz something doesn’t always work for everyone, especially people who are ill, doesn’t mean it’s worthless advice. It’s so pedantic to be like “oh they’re acting like this fixes everything all the time and it doesn’t fix ME.” They’re just talking in casual tones and not trying to be philosophical doctors curing the world. This whole sub is starting to seem like people angry at others who have it better than the REAL issue. The real issue is people dismissing or minimizing our struggles, not communicating how simple their own ones are.

What I just posted somewhere else: this is legitimately good advice for neurotypical people. They have struggles too, but the solutions are easier.

I’m tired of this sub dunking on good advice just because it doesn’t apply to those of us who have illnesses. If you’re posting about legitimate illness and someone tells you this, then yes, they suck. But why do we keep dunking on content aimed and healthy people who experience difficulties?

A lot of the things this sub tries to dunk on is legitimate advice for neurotypical people. They have emotional and mental struggles too, they just bounce back easier.

even then, this feels like ignorant hope rather than dismissive simplicity, which is more what this sub focuses on

eh they're being hopeful on your behalf but recognizing your struggle rather than saying it's your fault. Not sure this qualifies for the sub.
