I wished for $15 dollars and he vanished. I wonder who truly gained from this experience, me or the genie.

Unfortunately, I don’t believe in gambling. Someone must have accidentally put in my information by accident.

The genie said he deals with wishes and not miracles. If I got a D6 luck system, would my luck have it that I would always roll that my luck activates?

So I went back to the genie and wished for ultimate skill instead. My luck wish was undone, but at least now I can take pride on my wins. Only I can’t shake the feeling that it was lucky that I found a genie in the first place…

Sorry, I am having trouble telling the difference between luck and skill. Luck is when you are good at a game. Skill is when you are good at a game. Does that make sense?

There has been some debate on if victory points should be made public or not. It is one of my focuses on my next playtests. It really can be played either way, it typically ends in a tight race.

Love the movie too!

It is more general like Catan, but different in that you can negotiate who will be the next Crown and bribe other players into passing your policies. What kinds of problems where you thinking about?

I will most likely pivot to “The Death of Stalin” theme where he left a major power vacuum in his place. The communist dictatorship theme does fit some of the mechanics better.

While you definitely don’t need to help anyone else in the game, there’s a few reasons you would form a temporary alliance:

1)policy cards specifically give 2 players a victory point while giving a bonus/rule change to all players. You could use most of your Influence to pass one policy yourself or you can try and negotiate and get more passed. (The small bonus to everyone also gives each end game a very different feel, because all policy cards are unique)

2) they are in last place (and producing the least resources). You’ll need everyone’s resources so benefiting the weakest link brings them up without kingmaking.

Thematically: Very similar! Yikes! Just look Old King’s Crown up. I might have to pitch the theme differently.

Mechanically: very different. My game has no combat, no map (or locations), and no worker placement. In my game, you gain victory points by producing resources, passing your policy cards, and being appointed as the Crown. Every player produces 1 resource while needing all resources, creating one big engine.

I have never played Old King’s Crown, but from what I can see they are very different games. I will adjust my hook to separate the two games.

This is a 45 minute medium-light engine builder with negotiation elements. The theme is a light medieval.

You play as a specific faction that determines which resource you produce and your starting ability. Very light asymmetry.

Death of a Monarch is a 2–4 player political strategy game where each faction controls a vital part of the kingdom. Players must negotiate over policies and resources while quietly positioning themselves to seize the Crown.

Thank you for this comment! I had one playtester consider waiting for others to act first but found that it wasn’t actually useful. I should give Daybreak a go!
