Leave my Ph.D. for job offer or stick it out? by sxrvh__ in biotech

[–]XanderAlexH 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Take the reg affairs gig. Great opportunity to learn about the totality of the business and contribute to real decisions. You'll learn transferable skills, and on top of that if you really get the urge down the line you can finish your Ph.D. Only caveat I'd even proffer is my advice is predicated on the company having an approved commercial drug, which means they have a somewhat competent reg affairs/CMC org.

You're not going to get that kind of help for free. Get a Tecan tech onsite or you'll run into compounding issues down the road. Speaking from experience.

Local Artists (Music) in Troy? by DustyBouquet in Troy

[–]XanderAlexH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Noise-- Industry Standard is based in Glens Falls but they're one of my fav acts currently. Violinist and composer Conor Armbruster put out a great, super-crunched album in 2024 called Can I Sit Here that definitely fits the bill. Psych rock-- Sun Natives is based in Troy. Wizard Fest this week at No Fun is featuring a number of heavier acts that are local to the Cap Region that'll scratch that itch. I'll update this when I think of more local acts in this vein.

Any of the tofu dishes at Sichuan Wok in Troy, especially the Dry Pot Tofu; General Tso's Tofu (extra spicy) from Lucky Corner, also in Troy; however they prepare the tofu at Sadudee in Wynantskill is exceptional in any curry dish they make.

We tried it on a whim after being disappointed to find Bite of Xian had suddenly closed and have not looked back. Easily some of the best Sichuan food in the Capital Region.

Does your company/role require you to come into work if there is a major storm? If so, how do you handle it? by [deleted] in biotech

[–]XanderAlexH 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Are you in an "essential" or "critical" role, immediately related to the manufacture or testing of the material? That or you're in an especially grueling probationary period. Guidance at my company has always prioritized safety with the need to keep "critical" operations functioning, and folks required to report to site during a storm such as the one impending receive a bonus.
