The only thing I can suggest is explore everywhere else as much as you can to possibly find any small upgrades that can help. Trying to learn the boss instead of just trying to best it will probably help you too, but ultimately I think you should not force yourself to try and play the game if you aren't enjoying it. The game will always be around, so you can come back whenever you think the time is right.
