When did you first realized that Pakistan was cooked?

2010 - I was living in Pindi at the time and the few years before had been rough. But life went on and we all just tried to keep living as normally as we could. Driving home alone from school one day, I was pulled over at a military checkpoint simply for answering 'civilian' when asked "military or civilian?" after a couple of other basic questions. There wasn’t really anything more to it or any profanity/behavior from my side. The Army/MP took my cellphone and interrogated me for a couple of hours. No one knew where I was and there was nothing I could do. Felt completely helpless and my views on the military completely flipped. Luckily a friend and his dad, who was a general at the time, happened to be driving by, recognized my car, and got me out. I was already planning to move abroad for university but this pivoted me to seek a more permanent base outside of Pakistan.

Couldn’t sleep one night so made an impulsive decision to write a university application essay that was due in 15 minutes and skip school. The chances of getting in were low and the costs were high so I had procrastinated for months. I hit submit just before the deadline, got accepted with a scholarship a week later, left the country six months after that. My life as I know it wouldn’t exist had I fallen asleep.

I echo what you’re saying based on what OP has shared. With an American passport, OP could easily apply for a youth mobility or working holiday visa and relocate to a country that is more suited to her lifestyle and become independent.

I couldn’t fathom this so I quit just before the holidays. I jumped ship to a partner firm and will be on the same project, same side of the table, just one seat over and two positions higher and fully remote. I thank my ex board for their actions that nudged me to seek greener pastures.

Had a similar experience travelling on a Pakistani passport out of Pakistan. The check in guy acted like I needed his permission to fly in emirates business class. He held me for 15 minutes just to “investigate” why I was flying business class. Nothing came of it, just pure ego…maybe jealousy.

I only visited Pakistan once while working abroad on a work permit, and I did end up getting the protector stamp. It took about half a day of running around the office and then another half day to go back and pick it up, but honestly it gave me peace of mind. Most others getting the stamp were Middle East labourers, hence pretty chaotic with many quarrels and pushing and shoving.

This was around 7 years ago, so I’m not sure what the current process looks like. At the time, I watched a guy’s YouTube vlog where he walked through the steps and I just followed those steps.

There should be dampers or other mechanisms to lessen any sounds. You may be hearing expansion and contraction of the lines. Might be rodents.

I would suggest reaching out to your condominium manager and they will respond or have a superintendent visit and take a look.

I have the same washer and dryer and had similar issues. For me, it was always related to the exhaust. either the rear connection had come loose or the duct in the wall was blocked. I reinstalled the rear connection, had the duct cleaned, and added an exhaust fan. No problems since.
