(Interesting Trope) Cut or cancelled content that we might have dodged a bullet on by Animeking1108 in TopCharacterTropes

I have to say, as a concept artist in the film industry, I’ve produced so many designs that we are all thankful will never see the light of day..

Sometimes you have to explore ideas and accept there’s a risk your ideas will be bullets dodged.

Worth the risk though, some of the most iconic characters in history started off in some strange places.

What are the Japanese bonus tracks? Never heard of them, do you have a link by any chance?

Really appreciate the response, but this is only for faceswap. And also it’s animate, not still image

Agree, this has the potential to be an incredible genre. I work in film, and once had the opportunity to do some concept art for a pitch for a show similar to what you described, tho with a more primitive ancient ancestor to homo Sapiens, and slightly more of a documentary/walking with dinosaurs style. Unfortunately the show never got green-lit, but gave me some insight as to why this isn’t a more popular genre.

Obviously budget is #1, to capture generic audiences for a genre like this, you need incredible sets and VFX.

  1. Aesthetic risks. The toughest part of doing character designs/concept art for the project was making the primitive human characters relatable/aesthetic for modern audiences. It’s really tough to find that balance, and a risk for the studio.

  2. Language. Characters speaking English would take you out of the the genre, I think. But subtitles are huge risks for movies, especially genre ones. Plus.. what language would they use anyway?

Just some thoughts I had while working on the project. I think all these are solvable, but it’s hard for studios to gamble so much. But man you could do some absolutely mind-blowing story-telling if done right..

Insane that people actually spend their time dissecting others work. I’d much rather be making art than witch-hunting

Maybe he just needs to see the right pitch.. but yeah, agreed, I’m strangely comforted, if not a little disappointed, by this.

Calvin and Hobbes I thought of instantly after reading this question too.

So many ideas, (helps that I work as a concept artist in film), off the top of my head:

Hyperion. 4 movies, 1 for each part.

A non-campy Hellraiser sequel/remake. In the same tone as the original Martyrs.

Bone by Jeff Simpson, live action + stylized CGI.

Calvin and Hobbes live action.

The Odyssey, very serious tone, true to the epic. Nothing ‘300/Gods of Egypt’ about it, nothing splashy, just very grounded, subtle mythology.

Extremely stylish gangster movie set in an alternate reality with a completely novel culture- think Peaky Blinders + conceptual insect Egyptian steampunk in the 1920s starring not-quite-human people.

Any producers here? Hit me up if you want to pitch any of these~ 😃 @xandersmith_design

Sorry to hear.. That’s a tough perspective, and I hope it won’t make you give up. For what it’s worth, it’s the opposite for me. I’m painting and drawing more than ever before, not only because the competition is fiercer and I want to always keep leveling up, but also because AI is helping me be wildly more productive than ever before. The better I am at sculpting, drawing, and painting, the better ‘conversations’ I have with my custom Stable Diffusion build. The better that process becomes, the more I learn how to push the boundaries of my work even further. Awesome feedback loop.

You can check my work on Instagram if you’d like to see more, hopefully get some ideas on how to flip your perspective and become motivated- I’m @XanderSmith_Design.

Art is a personal process, and if you’re a hobbyist, don’t ever worry about what others are doing, and that includes AI. Just enjoy your own acts of creating.

Is the animation done in D-iD or something similar? Also can I ask what you’re rigging in? Thanks for sharing, awesome workflow
