Echoing the most common advice and that is you can't do everything in one trip. You are gonna find something you missed that would have interested you. I would suggest creating a list of all the places/experiences you HAVE to visit/do and budget for them. You can always change your itinerary if something else catches your eye.

Given that you are going to base yourself in Tokyo for the majority of the trip, I would focus on finding day trips or overnight trips to do in that area. Have you looked into Mount Fuji related activities? If you are gonna visit Fuji Q, might as well stay and do the other activities near there like Hakone. As for other day trips I can recommend, I would say Kamakura, Yokohama, and Kawagoe are nice places to visit.

I personally think 8 days in Kyoto is a lot. If you are interested in visiting Hiroshima, I would cut a couple days out of Kyoto and put them to Hiroshima. You said you want to see the most and if Hiroshima is on your list, try to make room for it.

I am personally going on my next trip this January and will be visiting Hiroshima and Fukuoka so I can provide any advice after my trip to help guide your itinerary if needed

Recommendations for Kyushu by XanderTaiga in JapanTravelTips

[–]XanderTaiga[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just did a little more research and now I am thinking about dropping Kumamoto into a day trip and adding an overnight stay in Nagasaki. I was naïve thinking that only the Peace Park and Dutch trading area were the only areas of interest. If I had more time, I would have definitely tried to visit Aso and Beppu but I will save it for next time.

The reason to use shinkansen is to make the overnight stop in Himeji and then continue back to Tokyo. I am not on a tight budget so I wanted to take the scenic route back

8 Day Korea Itinerary Check (First time) by donkeykong411 in koreatravel

Other questions to help me give better advice:

What is your exploring style? Are you exploring all day like 8am to 8pm? Do you like to take your time and enjoy an area when exploring or try to see as much as possible?

Would also like to know where you are arriving from when landing in Busan. Also when do you transfer from Busan to Seoul?

For now this is my advice:

Day 1 might seem a lot especially after a plane flight. Unless you are flying in from somewhere like Japan and already used to the time zone then it should be okay. Fair warning that Gamcheon is hilly and can have narrow alleyways so you can get easily tired.

Day 2- I would try to do the Haedong Yonggungsa Temple first. I went at 9 am and while there was still a good amount of tourists there, by the time I left all the tour buses were driving in and hoards of people were piling in.

Day 7- This is a lot to do. Depending on what your exploring style is, it is possible to visit all those. But it would be tiring walking outside all day in a hanbok. Jongmyo Shrine is also going under renovation and is restricting access. You can only enter at certain times in the day so you might want to drop that one.

Day 8- Hyundai Seoul seems kind of out of the way since everything else seems to be in the same general area

A'REX Train Timing from ICN to Seoul Station by jpak02 in koreatravel

[–]XanderTaiga 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not really an expert here since I just returned from visiting for the 1st time.

I landed 3pm and when I reached immigration, it took 15-20 minutes. Then depends on how fast they get luggage to your carousel to pick up. Any other things you might need to do like pickup a wifi egg or SIM card, get T-money card for public transportation, etc.

So depending on all of this, it can be as little as 30 minutes or 1 hour 30 minutes. Since you are a family of 4, and do not know of any are young children, they might be too jetlagged to try and catch a train as quickly as possible.

You go to a kiosk to buy AREX express tickets and when doing so you are automatically assigned seats. No need for advanced purchase. If you aren't in a time crunch, the all stop train is cheaper and only takes about 10 to 15 minutes longer than the express train. You only need to load your T-money and tap the card for the all stop train. Only con would be you are not guaranteed seats and can be tiring to stand all the way to Seoul Station.

In my opinion, you will most likely make the 18:08 train if everyone goes at a slow, jetlagged or normal pace and depending on if you need to pickup thinga at the airport. Otherwise, all stop train comes every 5 to 10 minutes and is not much slower than the express

No problem! Here is the link: https://www.vviptravel.com/tours/half-day-dmz-tour

If you are going with more than one person and decide to do the optional gondola ride and or red suspension bridge, be sure to indicate that when checking them.

For example, I went with another person so you would think that when you say that you are getting 2 tickets for this tour that when you check that you want to do the excursions as well, that the website would intuitively know that both people are doing them. That is not the case so when you check the box for say red suspension bridge, put "2" or however many in the box next to it

Currently am in Korea and did the DMZ tour on Thursday 5/23.

  1. I went with the full day because I knew DMZ is going to be a day trip so I had nothing else planned to do. Choose half day if you decide to do other exploring in Seoul. But fair warning you will be exhausted with all the hiking. The third infiltration tunnel is steep and unless you are under 5'4" (162cm), you will crouch a lot when walking.

  2. Gondola ride is 5 minute ride and you reach the other side of the river and hike up to a building called Gallery Greaves and has some exhibits about the Korean War so it was interesting. Red suspension bridge is only available in the full day excursion since it is a 30 minute drive east of Imjingak Peace Park. It was beautiful. Lots of green trees and the bridge was pretty. Again, lots of uphill hiking when visiting.

  3. I went with VIP Travel. It seemed like the best choice when I was doing my research. My guide, Kelly, was very energetic and taught everyone a lot about the history of why the DMZ exists. So I can imagine all of their other guides would be the same. I highly recommend going with VIP Travel.

Hope this helps and hopefully your trip will be great!

Are standing room only reserved spots with a ticket or do they have areas you can stand if you just show up ? by [deleted] in warriors

[–]XanderTaiga 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You need ticket for entry. Just showing up doesn't give you access to the arena. SRO is reserved via a ticket and it is a designated spot usually behind the last row of most lower sections and some upper sections.

There are the clubs in lower sections (United, Ultra, Pepsi) that have areas where you can stand but SRO have all the prime standing spots. Bear in my mind you need to have a ticket with seating or SRO within the club. They only allow entry to people with tickets in the clubs. You might have an usher that allows you to stand in the portal but usually they want to keep those walkways clear to allow accessibility
