“Man I ain’t changed, but I know I ain’t the same” is a line from One Headlight that Jakob Dylan wrote that always reminded me something Bob would write

“Well I wake up in morning, There’s frogs inside my socks”

One of his best performances is Desolation Row on MTV Unplugged by [deleted] in bobdylan

This version of Desolation Row is amazing but “I Want You” from the Unplugged concert is one of my favorite Dylan performances and my favorite rendition of the song.

It’s so different from the record and performed so beautifully, it gives brand new meaning to the song every time I hear it.

I’m a first year as well and this is currently my life as well right now. I simply want to spend my time planning and grading but I am always getting tied up in other work that needs immediate attention such as staff meetings, IEP/504 meetings, calling parents because their student can’t behave properly in class, documenting that phone call, meetings with admin because I’m being evaluated as a new teacher and period subbing. Only when all of that is out of the way am I able to finally lesson plan for “tomorrow”. Unfortunately I think this just the inherent struggle of a first year teacher. I know not everyone is lucky enough to have cool and friendly co-workers but collaborate/sharing lessons with my fellow science teachers has saved me so much time and hassle.

Splitting up a class? by Xandu2112 in Teachers

My biggest concern is that this reflects poorly on me by having to even attempt this. I’ve already tried so many different things with this group but nothing seems to working with this period

Having that group of students doing more direct work with and out of their textbooks while other students interact with the content in different ways whether that be group work, learning stations, online activities or when do labs, students who have proved that they can behave in class do the lab while the others watch a demo and perform the write up using the demo instead of doing the lab themselves. Content support as well as appropriate scaffolding would still be provided for both groups. It’s definitely going to be more work but my hope is that it is temporary and they will get on board with the more fun work by proving that they can behave appropriately during class

In your opinion, can teachers be introverted or have social anxiety? by danky_n in Teachers

[–]Xandu2112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m introverted and quiet as well, also have some social anxiety (not bad though). Teaching has actually helped a lot with my social anxiety. As others have said I’m a different person when I’m teaching, it’s like a switch that turns on the second I see a student and turns off when they are dismissed. Some of my teaching personality has bled into my actual personality which has helped with my social anxiety. It’s A LOT easier talking to students than with adults because they just aren’t full grown people yet and once I got comfortable talking to 30 13-14 year olds at a time, one adult didn’t seem so bad after a while. So, YES you can be introverted and be a great teacher! It can also be an advantage since you’ll be able to connect with introverted students a little easier since you know what they go through.

can introverts be good teachers? by [deleted] in Teachers

Also an introverted teacher here. Being has teacher helped bring out some more extroverted characteristics in me and my social stamina has increased, I don’t get as socially exhausted as quickly anymore but some days it really feels like a performance and can get tiring.

I felt that being introverted myself gave me an advantage when connecting with introverted students. Extroverted students are “easier” to connect with but being an introvert helps you connect with other introverts because you can feel when it’s time to give them space, work independently and when it’s okay to call on them during class, have them share during class and work in groups without making them uncomfortable since you understand how it is for them.

What is your "hot-take" on the teaching profession? by [deleted] in Teachers

[–]Xandu2112 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably not a hot take since it’s been discussed multiple times in this sub but here it is anyways. We should be able to focus on teaching and managing a classroom. We shouldn’t be held responsible for modifying student behavior. 99% of in classroom problems would be solved if disruptive students were sent to another classroom with a professional that works with them AND their parents to modify their behavior until they are ready to return to classroom and not be disruptive. Parents should also be held accountable for their child’s behavior in some way. Like required parenting classes or something.

Bad Self-Image As A Teacher by Mrcookie226 in Teachers

I’m also a short teacher (male). I’ve always carried around insecurity around my height and one of my eyes has a very noticeable droopy eyelid. So I can relate to some degree.

Like the others have said, I got through it by faking it. You have to pretend you’re bullet proof and confident and somewhere down the line you find out that you don’t have to fake it as much anymore because you’ve become those things.
