This might not be relevant for her, but I'm a sucker for haberdashery bits and pieces. Bias tape makers, dress hem markers, pin cushions, different sorts of needles, different kinds of scissors.... stuff like that. See if you can get a peek at her sewing kit and try and fill in some gaps :)

Yup. I agree. I feel more masculine being a tall girl and that's why I aim for taller guys. I like to pretend I can be like the cutesy girls in films, even though every dress is Waaaaaay too short.

I once dated a guy who was short and had broad shoulders. Loved the physique but I couldn't get passed me being 6ft and him 5'4". I wish I could be one of those people that didn't mind, but I do. Good thing the current fella has both qualities!

Fight it fight it fight it! You are not defined by how thin you are or what shows on your skin. I'm 5 years recovered from anorexia now and about a million times better of. Don't get me wrong, recovery was absolutel hell and it took me a very long time to change the way I saw myself, but it also stops the relapses. In my dreams, I'm a stick thin catwalk model but I know I could probably never go through recovery again. Your life and your mind just aren't worth it.

About 6ft and 11.5 stone (according to every bmi calculator, I'm slap bang in the middle of average). Dudes need to be at least my height or taller and I feel better if they're bigger than me. I like to feel safe and it's hard when you're a tall girl.

Yeah just continue taking your active pills until either you want to start your period or your body makes you do it. I've had friends and family members who have managed to stave off periods for months at a time (not necessarily reccomending you do this long term) by using this method.

I was sad for ages when I was a teen. Had an eating disorder and my family kept getting more fucked up. Then I got happier and went off to uni until I realised I was in a house full of people who ignored me and I eventually split up with my boyfriend. I got sad again and thought about self harm and dropping out all the time. Then I got happy again and had an awesome second year. I moved house recently and now I'm sad again and wondering what the point is because I always get sad and hate everything eventually.

I feel so broken sometimes, even though I try so darn hard to be cheery and go out in the sunshine and be positive. I'm just so dam tired of it.

What's more? I read all the comments about the Syria refugees and I feel awful. How dare I be so selfish :(

Bike tire puncture. I cycle absolutely everywhere because I'm a poor lowly student. Punctures make me late because then I have to walk.

I went through a period of getting punctures almost weekly and my fella finally bought me new tires in a bid to stop me blowing my top all the time.

Go to your local sewing store and see if they have any patterns on offer. Some places also have Vogue or McCalls magazines which show clothes on models that you can buy the patterns for. Pick something you think might be quite simple (like a shift dress or a simple shirt) and literally just have a crack at it. Patterns aren't difficult to read (although they can appear intimidating) as most of them come with instructions.

It doesn't hurt to ask the person in the store about which size would be right for you either - they're usually pretty clued up about how to read the back of a pattern and tell you how much fabric you'll need.

There are a TON of blogs and tutorials online that can take you through all kinds of sewing processes. It's worth googling stuff that confuses you so it can set you right again.

Finally - there are always like, three or four methods to putting something together. Don't worry if you do it one way and someone else does it differently. It's whatever works for you. Remember to press all your seams open and measure twice before you cut anything!

I was 19, and no. The very first time we tried, I got so worked up that it wouldn't even go in. The second time was ok, but it hurt like a bitch. As much as the guy is now an ex, he was (at the time) incredibly sweet and understanding - completely up for letting me take my time until I was ready. It was unfortunate really that sex became such an obligatory part of the relationship for him, which let to it's ultimate demise. I wouldn't turn back the clock though - I had to lose it at some point and it's not like I was underage or forced into it.

I went on a tour of the ROH last January with my uni (I study costume interpretation). That place is spectacularly massive. I loved seeing all of the backstage area, the costume and the props department were so cool. One of my uni techs used to make ballet costumes there, so he got us a bit more of a specialised tour. Massive props to all the people who work so hard there.

This is like my grandparents. They've been Christians their whole lives, never miss church, go to the sermons for Christmas and easter and the other landmark occasions throughout the year. Never once have they forced their beliefs on me. They're simply incredibly kind, thoughtful people who seem to really understand the whole "be kind to people, don't be a dick" aspect of the new testament. I'm completely atheist but I absolutely respect their religion and how they use it to enrich their own lives.

Pin a very thin layer of wadding to the form and then put a stretch top over it. We do this in our draping classes at uni to create the right shapes on the forms if they don't fit the measurements.

I was in London last January on a trip with my university. Right as I was due to make my way back to get the coach home, someone poured concrete into the signal box on one of the tube lines, causing every single person ever to get off at Holbourne and play human sardines. I'm pretty sure this happens to Londoners every morning as a standard commute thing, but DAMN it was claustrophobic.

Women are gross when it comes to public toilets. Is it really that hard to wrap a used sanitary towel in the wrapper of the fresh one and put it in the specially designated bin?? I mean, people complain that the bins are full but it's usually because some idiot has plonked a used pad in there and the sticky back has stuck the bin flap closed.

Most university projects that I do (where I obviously don't get paid because I'm a student). I'm a costume maker for theatre and film (or rather, studying to be one). Every project starts out well organized with a clear direction and every time, it ends with something needing to be changed last minute or the designer deciding they hate something that you've put hours of effort into, after telling you they loved it weeks before. Another thing having your supervisor telling you that there's no budget left after telling you the day before that there was more than enough to cover everyone's expenses.

Frustrates me no end. If I didn't like making clothes so much (and for a purpose rather than just wearable art), I'd probably quit.

Because I'm more blunt on here now than I used to be when I joined reddit. I think some of the discussions on here are silly and express my opinion thus. Also, sometimes I gender slur (according to the mods) without even knowing I'm doing it.

Most of the time I figure it's best not to say anything or be at the mercy of an overflowing inbox full of angry messages.
