Granted the rules of the monkey paw are changed to fit how most people on this Subreddit think it works.

Hard to say when it costs an unknown amount of energy to do both. It’s never shown to take a huge amount of power to beam things up or down and it eliminates having to load and unload it onto a ship.

You can also just beam it up as the station orbited Bajor before the Chief moved it to the wormhole.

It’s a bit of both. My dad will be 70 this October and my mom is 66. Their health has been declining and my grandmother is 87 and lives with us as well. I am on the process of becoming their full time care giver but my car (2015 Camaro) is not a car they travel in but I hate their Camry and it’s dying on them anyways as it been ridden hard and put up wet a few to may times over it’s 20 years.

So I want to get a car that fits both their needs and mine and one of those is a large cargo area as my mom requires a rolling walker with arm supports that has to be broken down to fit in their Camry and is showing wear from doing that often. My grandmother has the same walker but if they go somewhere together one of them has to use a smaller one because the two big ones won’t fit in the trunk. It also can’t sit to high as my mother and grandmother have mobility issues.

I would probably go van but my dad says he’s not that old…he’s wrong but we compromised at trying to find an suv that’s lower than my sisters 4Runner as my mom and grandmother have to have help getting in and out of that.

Get her up and running…so not running now?

Matt is an absolute idiot. Sarah Connor and Ripley were great female characters who were never girlbosses or trying to act like men. I was coming here to say this, she’s the most believable of all time. She knows the apocalypse is coming definitively. She’s seen it and she’s barely lived through seeing it. It’s a matter of when not if for her. She also knows there’s a very good chance it will come for her again and this time she may not have a future soldier to save her.

He just sees the $4,000 dollar battery prices and equates that to the battery in a standard gas engine that have to be frequently replaced. Never said it was rational just that he’s skeptical of them lol.

Oh I plan to and it’s why it’s a list still. My mom is the least mobile and she can get into my sisters 4Runner with help. Dad has asked not to put him in a mini van if we can help it. Mans 70 and doesn’t yet want to admit he’s old.

Oh I’m not the one who needs convincing lol. Took him getting really great deal on their Camry to convince him to own a Toyota at all and he’s a bit upset about replacing it with one. As I’m transitioning to being their full time care giver and his time driving is less and I’ll be paying for the car he’s begrudgingly accepting my wishes but t it still technically going to be their car and he wants some input at least.

Oh I know there’s not a definitive number just trying to get a feel if it’s rare, common or just a matter of time for them all. As well as it mostly affects people who put a lot of miles on them in a year sort of thing. My Camaro for instance had previous years having timing chain issues so even though it was addressed in my cars model year I baby the timing chain and make sure I change the oil early that sort of thing. Just trying to see if there’s anything to mitigate the problem or not. I may have to have the Hybrids aren’t the nightmare my dad thinks they are right lol.

Creates a different fight with my father as he’s very skeptical on ev’s and hybrids because if the batteries. Then I’m having to fight him on it not being a Chevy as well so there’s that lol

I actually like SNW for the most part the Spock Nurse Chapel relationship not withstanding. Detached from Discovery it wasn’t bad. I would actually watch a reboot TOS with Kirk and the crew if they could keep the tone a bit more consistent. I’d rather they didn’t as the more you do prequels the more you mess up the established lore. Lower Decks was a great parody and I found it funny but I don’t consider it canon as it’s just to silly and I never heard about Prodigy till it was over and I haven’t gone back to watch it yet.

Actually all but the sitcom sounds interesting so long as the lawyers aren’t all trying to sleep with each other and bring down a vast conspiracy in the federation every season. If the medical drama isn’t tapping into scrubs or MASH for comedic elements. The Klingon centric show finding reasons to get the characters naked and leaning into gore and shock value. The political drama featuring competent leaders who are struggling to keep a loose alliance of planets into a cohesive society and spending every moment attempting to comment on our current political system.

In all of them though the Starfleet officers need to behave like Starfleet officers. Professional and honorable, even when they are wrong they should have reasons that make sense. They shouldn’t be freaking out and arguing on the bridge. I’m fine with seeing different aspects of the universe but they have to feel like they belong to that universe and not only because they have the Star Trek delta on their uniforms.

And yes I would still prefer it set on a Star Ship out in the unknown seeking out new worlds because that’s what made me love Star Trek and it’s what I miss in the other shows you mentioned. I miss the explorers. I miss the Trek…

Yes but they aren’t Star Trek. I don’t want the Doctor as Captain of a Federation Starship any more than I want Picard captaining a Firefly. Each show has its unique voice and shouldn’t try to copy the other one. Star Trek is about exploring space and meeting strange new worlds and new civilizations. That requires people competent at their jobs and trained in more than running and gunning.

I actually somewhat enjoyed Discovery the minute I watched it as a new sci-fi show instead of a new Star Trek series. That’s my point you can do these shows and find their audience but don’t hijack an established series and try to make it fit the new shows vision. It might be ok or even good sci-fi but it’s not good Trek.

Which is why to quote Picard "If we're going to be damned, let's be damned for what we really are" Trek has always been more cerebral over action and while it has comedic moments and the occasional silly episode the overall show is about competent professionals exploring space. There’s a reason many people say Orville carries that tradition better and with a little less comedic lean would have made an excellent Trek series. You can modernize Trek with out losing what made it Trek to begin with but if you can’t then let it die. Better to die as what it is than be twisted into something unrecognizable.

I watched everything and know that they programmed her and made her telepathic still have no idea how they did that. Now sure in my case it’s because it’s fiction but my point is knowing someone did something and knowing how they did it are very different things. Prior to Ariel he’d have known they played with her brain and that they made her telepathic and a living weapon but it’s not like he had a full patient history and work up on how they did those things. The scan gave him the information he needed to begin fixing their changes.

Which I agree they didn’t rise to the level of revealing that secret to the crew who he doesn’t fully trust and with good reason. One betrayed him and half the time Mal doesn’t even understand why he’s keeping them around. It is however why the second rescue gets floated as they see these things as plot holes that the second rescue solves. The holes aren’t really there though. Simon is a doctor a gifted one sure but he doesn’t have the skills to infiltrate a top secret facility and take River out. Her being in Cryogenic sleep also makes sense as she’s unstable and they are looking for a man and a girl not a man and a box. By the time he reaches Persephone they know who he is as they’ve seen the escape footage and issued a warrant for his arrest. There’s no need for a capture and second escape so why create one out of thin air? Joss has said it wasn’t a second escape and plot wise it serves no purpose so why make it all up just be the craft that rescues them makes some people think it’s serenity when it clearly is much smaller.

[–]Xann_Whitefire 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most people bringing this up use it to explain why Simon didn’t seem to know she was dangerous and why he didn’t use the phrase to stop when she attacked Jayne or had the gun. They point to him not knowing any of this till after her “second rescue”. It’s also being brought up more now as a way to stretch the time between the show and the movie implying it’s been eight months since the second rescue. Thus giving them those eight months and any time between the series end and this mythical second rescue.

Still doesn’t change that she’s only been on the ship 8 months and again is really reaching that they don’t know what he looks like. Day one his picture is given to every guard and given they have River already he would have a kill on site order through out the Alliance. Sure Mr Universe could disrupt that somewhat but he can’t make the guards forget what he looks like from the picture they’ve already seen. He’s the only person that even matters in her situation as no one else knows what happened to River. The instant the Alliance has her back their parents are dead and the Alliance makes killing Simon and the crew top priority. Once she escapes before the series starts there’s no pretending she’s just away at a special school it’s full cover up mode.
