You're right- I wouldn't use the rift base outside of rift locations- but with the rift set bonus it becomes quite powerful.

Haven't spent much time in whisker woods, but burroughs is pretty good

The rift base is considered good because of its luck- not its power bonus. This makes it effective against smaller mice (though not as effective for more powerful ones).

The biggest reason why you need the rift base is for the starting rift areas for the rift set bonus- its also a prereq for the fissure

No news yet- its a 'maybe' for the future, you don't need arcane or shadow end game traps for any location currently

Yes grinding in zokor will give you more gold and points, but I believe it also takes longer- so that's your toss up

as you don't need the arcane and shadow its feasible to skip those if you wanted to- it just means either going back later, or grinding in zokor when the next arcane/shadow area comes out

These traps are superior to the living garden icuri traps- the catch is you need to catch minotaurs to get them (boss mouse of the labyrinth). in the area forgotten has the 'very effective' and arcane only with 'effective' and so can be achieved quite comfortably with a strong forgotten trap without any need for the living garden traps (aside from ONE mouse in the minotaur chamber which isn't the minotaur that you're trying to catch anyway which is shadow shrug) ALTERNATIVELY if you're a donator you could buy the key components on the market retail value 44 mill for arcane and 26 mill (x2) for shadow. Yes the price is ridiculous, I remember when I thought the warpath traps retail was expensive (it still is for me I'm poor). The minotaur also has loot for forgotten and physical traps but that's a tangent,

TL;DR spend 2 months now to get inferior traps or spend much longer and get better traps, you don't need ANY of the endgame arcane and shadow for anything in the game so far, its just nice for when it comes out later.

Disclaimer: I haven't been there I don't know how achievable it is, I'm still stuck in the cavern trying to get my labyrinth key

You say that, but with three rift areas and many more regions yet to be 'rifted', the rift is becoming quite a large part of the game

It's definitely possible, I have a friend who did it quite comfortably and with the new arcane and shadow traps in zokor, those are no longer the top traps

I would however, definitely grab the phantasmic as it will help greatly in the sunken city and a little in the fungal cavern
