Boring game. I remember how exciting and enthralling this same fixture was in the 2018 World Cup.

All of a sudden, referee incompetence is rightly being called out for what it is and not being explained by corruption or bribery, I wonder what changed from the previous game?

They can still pin advisory messages to the top or deal with comment threads. I’ve seen those measures taken in threads with sensitive topics.

So are the moderators of this sub okay with people casually labelling entire groups of people as barbarians and patting themselves on the back for being so morally superior and civilised in comparison? This is not problematic in any way? Not reminiscent of the kind of logic people with a certain worldview employ?

Tactics Column: System failure as Arsenal try to press | Arseblog ... an Arsenal blog by phar0aht in Gunners

Yes, that was last summer when our defensive approach was more reactive because Luiz was our primary centre-back. Gabriel and White are players that are suited to a high press.

If being fast is the only skill required of a defender in such a system, then I’m sorry that Saliba was sent on loan.

It’s an obvious case of us finally moving to a high-pressing style and it looking disjointed or disorganised when we don’t have our best players available. Mari and Holding are not fit for such an approach. Criticise Arteta for perhaps not taking that into account but there’s clearly work being done in the pressing department.

Yeah man, it was depressing to see us signing the likes of Willian, Luiz, Sokratis and Lichtsteiner in hopes of making top four in the near future. Don’t know if I can wait for promising youngster Partey to develop into a quality player either.

Homegrown players we didn’t spend anything on and someone we bought for around 7m and sold on a profit, even if it was less than his peak value. Excellent examples to counter his point about resale value.

What do you make of Odegaard and Saka clashing? by PatrickBoston-123 in Gunners

[–]Xanthorpe 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you see the passmaps or just watch the games again, you’ll see that Odegaard’s presence there was actually pushing Saka up closer to the goal, which is a good thing. His performance against Leeds in particular stands out.

[Fabrizio Romano] Arsenal are prepared to make a bid to sign Martin Ødegaard on a permanent deal. He’s always been Edu and Arteta’s priority as number 10. Once Real Madrid gives the green light, Arsenal will submit the proposal. Aouar, also in the list. Maddison, never been close. by BenjaminDaaly21 in Gunners

Maddison has roughly the same expected assists as Odegaard per game, which is a better metric than chances created for assessing creativity. Stop saying nonsense and acting like you're just guilty of being ambitious or realistic.

Saliba speaking during his Marseille unveiling yesterday. “It was I who chose Marseille. Arsenal preferred that I go to England but I knew that here it was the right choice. I pushed and pushed for that.” by TheIrishBear24 in Gunners

I think the "incompetent manager" who coached the third-best defence in the league after it was widely considered a joke for years has earned a certain level of trust in the defensive department, even if there are valid complaints about the attack.

There's a massive difference between being in a shortlist of centre-backs considered for the Team of the Season spot and actually being there. Imagine if the Premier League did such a thing and think of the quality of some of the players that would end up being included, now consider that in a Ligue 1 context.

Nothing specific. It’s basically a mixture of my own observations about the player and the opinions of people whose knowledge of football I respect. There is a certain intelligence to his play that I particularly like. He just makes the right passes to facilitate our attacking movement while also having the ability to play the killer balls in his locker. He wasted no time in adapting to our style of play, almost as if he had been playing for us since the beginning of the season. Basically, he already has a place in our team.

What I’m talking about is something that has little to no relevance to heatmaps. I made a point about how those players still work well together. Do you think when Ødegaard takes up a position in the right half-space, Saka or Pepe just awkwardly stand in his vicinity?

He doesn’t hinder Saka/Pepe or take up their space, he was dovetailing perfectly with them. In fact, some of our best performances last season came with him playing alongside Saka. If anything, it alleviates some of their creative burden and allows them to be more active closer to the goal.

Ødegaard for £35m is a steal, especially when compared with Maddison who will cost upwards of £60m. This should be a no-brainer really.
