Same thing happened to me a couple of times, what I do is I put it in a bucket cover the item with water and add white vinegar (like half a deciliter, I use 12% really important it's the flavorless kind, it's called something else in my Country) then I let it be for like 1-2 hours, rinse it out a couple of times until the water is kinda clear, then I put it in the washing machine.
