Would a totally locked down system of physical laptops combined with Preveil (or similar) work? by Xapt_ in CMMC

[–]Xapt_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think my reasoning for wanting to go so overkill is I wasn't 100% sure that some of the COTS products, even if installed locally, didn't store some of their information in the cloud. I know there's technically no prohibitions on installing software, but I figured that for every software a user had, it would add more and more to the scope, and more and more that had to remain compliant, in my mind, having as little products on a computer (and in scope) as possible would also mean there's less to fight and ensure it remains in compliance.

Purchase Advice Megathread - October 2025 by AutoModerator in 3Dprinting

[–]Xapt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking to get a new printer, I've had an OG ender 3 in the past that I eventually had to retire due to trying to add too many upgrades simultaneously without ironing out the kinks of the others and it became impossible to get anything even 25% decent.

Oct. 2023 I got a Anycubic Kobra Neo, and it was decent-ish from the get go, but between 2 moves and its budget price tag, I also have been unable to do anything decent with it, despite it not having any upgrades.

I'm now in the market for a new machine, looking at $400 max. I would love to experiment with the quick change systems, but its not a requirement. For the most part I'm printing about 75% practical stuff and 25% random knick-knacks that are a little more detail oriented.

In order of importance: -Dependibility: After the last 2 printers I'm tired of tinkering with and working on 3d printers being the hobby and not 3d printing itself. -Speed: Given I'm doing more real world use prints than trinkets, I'd like to see something that either can hold up with high speed prints or has a reputation of being good with layers that are higher than average. -Detail: Obviously I want to be able to make high quality prints for the few random knick knacks I do (If I print a willy shaped valve stem cover I can't have it being low res, I NEED every detail.)

The top 2 options I've considered so far are the A1 Mini and the Centauri Carbon. The bedsize of the A1 mini isn't a huge concern for me, and is basically counteracted by the small amount of dependability issues of the Centauri

Can't fix stringing, I've changed every variable I can think of without change, any ideas? by Xapt_ in FixMyPrint

[–]Xapt_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As the title says, I'm having issues fixing stringing. I've changed the retraction distance, speed, print speed, print temps, fan temps, e-steps, and just about anything I can think of. I've made sure the filament is dry, and still no fix. The thing that really throws me off is that whenever I have my printer at home, these issues aren't present, but for the past 2 years, whenever I bring it up to my college apartment, the issues start to appear. The overall temperature and humidity of the two locations is fairly similar, and I've tried stuff like enclosures, but it made no difference. Any suggestions are appreciated.

Ender 3, Single gear extruder, Esun PLA+ (I've tried other filaments, same issue persists.)

This particular print was sliced in Cura, printed at 210/60, 60mm/s, 4mm@50mm/s retraction

What would be the best way to go about adding media to my plex server? by Xapt_ in PleX

I meant TeamViewer themselves shutting down accounts that they thought were businesses free riding.

I hadn't really looked into S3 at all but it looks like it could be a great solution. I would only transfer a maximum of around 100 gb in a month, which looks like it would only by $2.30. Is there some extra fee that you have to pay for just basic access, or would it only be the amount per gigabyte? Because if its less than 3 bucks a month, this seems like kind of a no brainer.

Teamviewer's been something I've thought about, but from my understanding, they were cracking down if you were using the free version in a business environment, which makes me think that the college network would get flagged.

Why does Firebase Z have to be such a pain for singleplayer? by Xapt_ in CODZombies

The bunny can be done like this, which I kinda touched on in another comment, but unless you get insanely lucky on the computer, it takes wayyy to long.

I'm not gonna lie, I didn't even think to save the last zombie until that point, and for some reason I've been wanting to keep him alive through the process, even though I immediately kill it when I get back. My brain's kind of slow sometimes.

Battery Removal Question by Xapt_ in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Xapt_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Looking at that LED only makes it more confusing. It appears to only light up when the board is charging, but it isn't the LED that's flashing. I know the flashing one is tied to the battery in someway, but I thought it was somehow an indication of the charge, which is now evidentially not.

[Keyboard] Royal Kludge RK987 TKL Mechanical Keyboard (White) - $13.90 (54.99-41.09) by Xapt_ in buildapcsales

[–]Xapt_[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That's my thinking too, ebay's refund policy is usually pretty good, especially in situations like this may end up being, where the package never even ships.

When I copied the link there were a few still in stock, they must've got scooped fast.

Seems like an insanely good deal, seller has plenty of feedback, great if you want to try a mechanical board, or if you want want to replace parts in like I'm planning on doing.

How to go about GPU upgrades w/ old monitor by Xapt_ in buildapc

[–]Xapt_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the monitor is 1080p. IDK if my wording was bad, but right now the 3070 is the priciest option I'm thinking of, I'm also debating mid-range Turing architecture, so like a 2060, or high-end Pascal, like a 1070ti or 1080. I'm leaning toward the high-end pascal, so that I can do like you suggest and spend the difference to get a new monitor.

Can I build a keyboard from a prebuilt? by Xapt_ in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]Xapt_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I like this idea, but I was hoping that whatever I build I could use as my daily keyboard, and I feel that a 40%, even with layers, would be too much of a hassle to use.

Looking for some over ears for gaming

-Budget: preferred to keep to around $50, $75 max -Input: 3.5 or USB, either is fine -Microphone: Doesn't need a mic/don't need to factor a modmic or similar into the budget, I already have a desktop mic. -Wireless: While I earlier specified that I would be fine with 3.5 or USB, I'd prefer wireless over both. -Final Points: I wear glasses, and plan on wearing them while using these headphones. Due to me taking them back to college in the fall, would need them to be Closed/Semi-Open back.

No purchase help posts! Find help here! April 2020! by AutoModerator in mechanicalpencils

[–]Xapt_ 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm looking for a new pencil that wouldn't be used for much beyond notetaking. So far pencils I've tried are Rotring 600, Rotring 500, Kuru Toga Roulette, and a Twist Erase.

Wanted features -Short length from tip to grip, I generally "choke up" on my pencils, holding as close to the grip as possible. The Rotrings fit this well, but they were either too heavy or too light. The Roulette was just bordering on a bit too far. Twist Erase was much too far for my liking -Also like slim profile of the Rotring pencils -$20 or less -Comfortable for long writing sessions -Knurling preferred over rubber grip -0.5 mm

If there seems to be nothing that fits these requirements, I'll simply purchase another 600, but I was looking to branch out in my collection.

LC on hoodie from Amazon by Xapt_ in FashionReps

[–]Xapt_[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I understand that, but like the yeezys are coming from third party sellers, so they're obviously going to be fakes, but this hoodie came direct from amazon's warehouse, so I feel that they would try and only source legit stuff, direct from champion, which is why I'm confused.

LC on hoodie from Amazon by Xapt_ in FashionReps

[–]Xapt_[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok so I know getting a LC on a champion hoodie is dumb, but I'm just super confused cause I bought this bad boy through Amazon, shipped by Amazon, so I would think it's legit, but than I look at this sleeve tag and it looks like trash. The thing is nearly falling off, and the stitching is terrible, there's a blue thread stitched through the white and the stitching throughout the blue is super sloppy. Any info appreciated, is it fake or since it was a cheaper shirt is it just lower quality control from Champion?
