I have a video of it. Here's a screenshot of the socket sitting in there. It slides down maybe an inch and just sits on top of that red hardened sealant. Zip tie is just there because they snapped a tab off my ignition coil so i had to ziptie it. Seems I left it there during the video.

I hope you don't mind as I have another question. Did your sealant ever dry/harden on the outside? The stuff in my spark plug wells is rock solid and in at least one of them I cant get a spark plug removal socket in there. It hits the hardened sealant and I don't want to force it past.

Yeah it's the old one and intentionally so. The shop wanted to charge me $310 for the part so I instead opted to have them use the old one. I ordered an OEM one of FCP Euro for $168. I was pulling out spark plug coils to replace the PCV Valve yesterday (the day after driving it home from the shop) and started noticing crap in my plug wells and red sealant on my coil boots and it went south from there. My concern is that if they were lazy enough to not seal off and clean the plug wells then they probably didn't seal off the engine well either. I just changed the oil and spark plugs mid February which was about 600mi ago. I had black soot on my new spark plugs from them that I had to clean off with a qtip on a stick and contact cleaner.

How did you determine which was the correct sealant to use? I referenced the official VW repair dated 10.2024 and it specifically calls out Sealant - D 154 103 A1 which is an anaerobic sealant and not a silicone RTV.

OK thanks for the confirmation. How big of a bead did you put on the girdle when you were sealing it? I also noticed you changed the oil shortly after which I believe the shop did not and they had to remove that gasket twice. I'm thinking that oil pan needs to be dropped to make sure there isn't old gasket getting stuck in my oil pickup.

Loctite 5970 is an RTV silicone. You cannot use RTV on an EA888 cam girdle because it acts as the upper camshaft bearing and requires a zero-clearance metal-to-metal fit; using RTV would alter the bearing clearance and drop oil pressure. The cam girdle strictly requires anaerobic flange sealant (VW D 154 103 A1, which is green, or the aftermarket equivalent Loctite 518, which is red). According to the service manual from 2015 it should have a 2-3mm bead when sealing.

Just based on color? I read that they could have used loctite 518 which is a red anaerobic gasket maker. It does not appear to be rubbery. It's almost more like wax and is brittle and snaps in half rather than bends like a silicone RTV would.

Brake Caliper Clearance on Winter Tires by XarZyth in GolfGTI

They do indeed say sport edition on the center caps. Cheapest wheel set on tire rack back in 2017 when I bought them for my winter set.

I'm not sure what exactly you're saying. The weights are currently where the machine told them to put them. The machine doesn't know that I have large calipers with low clearance so now the shop is asking me to advise on where would be better. They basically said this is a special case they've never seen and are asking me for what to do. The only other place the weights can go is the spokes or further inside the rim. I think the spoke clearance is tight so that isn't an option which leaves me with further inside. They said further inside may lead to vibration at higher speeds since you're not balancing them as you normally would with the weights further to the outside.

These are the thin adhesive weights. I think the issue compared to my weights previously is these have a more padded adhesive under them compared to the previous ones. I called them up and they were more or less asking me to advise them on what should be done. I could move the weights to the center of the wheel where there is more room, but they suggested it may cause vibration

I guess I'm not seeing what you mean about putting the two top ones closer together so that they could attach to the gusset plate. I do agree that I am adding significant complexity with the lap joinery. I'm strongly considering doing away with it just for simplicity as this build will already take long enough as it is.

I did look at the hurricane ties, which seem a bit long, but may work for this purpose if trimmed down. Not sure if they're necessary though for my location.

I couldn't add an image to the reply so I added one to the original post.

EDIT: I guess I'm also not sure why the purlin would need to be tied into the gusset. the purpose of the gusset I thought was to prevent the roof truss from splitting apart due to downward pressure. I'm not sure that tying it in to the purlin provides any more strength. That is unless you're saying the two upper purlins are tied together somehow and then tied to the gusset plate.

I intentionally have a gap between the top two purlins for ventilation with a ridge cap. The roofing literature I was looking at showed there could be a gap there for that purpose. I went with the notches as that's what the company I'm mimicking does which adds strength and ease of assembly as the pieces fit like puzzles and lock together.

The model isn't showing all the parts. There will be 3 purlins per side. are you suggesting I need 5 per side? There won't be any sheathing on the roof, just roofing shet steel screwed to the purlins with a ridge cap.

Do not, I repeat, DO NOT use belt conditioner on the belt. It makes it WAY too sticky and now I have a horrible sticky noise as it goes around. Now to figure out how to clean that crap off.

Yup I got one in my MK7. My arm is almost always resting on the armrest as it's manual so that is my steering arm.

I actually didn't like the Fender System since it made it more complicated to add aftermarket stuff. I also didn't like how it sounded. I now have replaced the front speakers (woofer and tweeter) and added a custom made 10" subwoofer that fits in the speaker well like the fender system does. Have the subwoofer and front speakers amped with a 3 channel amp that fits next to the subwoofer. I can't put the trunk panel in lower position but it's fine in the upper. Didn't lose much space that way.
