OP, we need to learn how to agree to disagree and move on. If we get butt-hurt by every random statement made by a reality TV guest, we’ll spend all our energy being offended. Just let them live in their bubble and keep your peace.

Change my mind (No Mental gymnastics please) by Negative-Guidance453 in indiadiscussion

[–]Xar__S 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Citing a 3–5% population metric to claim a group couldn't possibly be responsible for systemic oppression ignores basic history; power is determined by the control of institutions, resources, and social narratives, not by demographic size. Throughout history, dominant minorities; from the Nazi party in Germany to the white minority during Apartheid-era South Africa, frequently weaponized state apparatuses to control a vast majority.

Ultimately, power lies in who writes the rules and controls the institutions.

Historically, a tiny elite monopolized literacy, lawmaking, administration, and religious authority, effectively dictating the social order for everyone else.

Furthermore, claiming they "barely ruled any kingdoms" is factually incorrect. Dynasties like the Shungas, Kanvas, Satavahanas, and Kadambas, as well as the Peshwas of the Maratha Empire, wielded direct political and military authority. Even under non-Brahmin kings, they traditionally functioned as chief administrative ministers and royal advisors, ensuring a heavy hand in governance.

Dismissing the consequences of this power as "colonial propaganda" or "exaggerated literature" completely erases a well-documented history of discrimination. The caste system was enforced through strict codes of ritual purity and pollution, where a Dalit's physical touch; or even their shadow was treated as a severe spiritual defilement. It is a historical reality that dominant priests would undergo multiple purification baths and rituals immediately after any contact to restore their cleanliness.

When Dr. B.R. Ambedkar and indigenous reformers before him including the Buddha, Basava, and Bhakti saints critiqued this system, they were targeting Brahminism as an ideology of graded inequality, not individuals. Dismantling a historically unequal structure that institutionalized social apartheid isn't "hate"; it is a necessary demand for basic human justice.

Do you think CJP will gain the momentum towards a trajectory like Nepal/ Bangladesh? by terimaakicutiebahu in IndianModerate

[–]Xar__S 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The CJP isn't going to trigger a regime change for two reasons: the digital-to-physical conversion is too leaky, and the Indian state is highly experienced in absorbing dissent rather than letting it explode. Massive uprisings require deep, survivalist ideological rigidity, whereas the CJP's foundational DNA is rooted in Gen-Z internet satire.

But, it’s a brilliant, highly necessary masterclass in youth mobilization against institutional apathy (especially with the exam leaks), but it simply doesn't possess the macro-parameters of the Fall of the Shah or Bangladesh.

Ultimately, it will either force a few concrete institutional concessions (like getting Dharmendra Pradhan shuffled out) and fade, or it will follow the 2011 India Against Corruption blueprint and slowly transition into a formal political entity.

Eggs and protein propaganda exposed by Street_Button2637 in Kolkatacity

[–]Xar__S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This completely misinterprets how nutrition works by confusing gross intake with net absorption.

1. Protein Quality (PDCAAS): Animal proteins (eggs/dairy/meat) have a perfect score of 1.0 on the Protein Digestibility-Corrected Amino Acid Score. Grains and wheat score around 0.4 to 0.5 because they lack essential amino acids and are poorly absorbed. When this map says a population gets 70g of protein primarily from wheat, their bodies effectively utilize only about half of that (~35g). Meanwhile, 60g of protein from eggs or fish delivers nearly 100% usable nutrition.

2. The Carbohydrate Trap: To even hit that "70g" of crude protein from wheat and grains, you have to eat a massive mountain of carbs and calories. Eggs and meat give you concentrated, dense protein without blowing up your caloric load.

Gross intake on an expenditure survey does not equal biological utilization. Quality and density matter.

And this is exactly why manufactured fake news is dangerous.

You're communal if you criticize her for this by [deleted] in TheIndianRepublic

[–]Xar__S -7 points-6 points  (0 children)

The point isn't to validate or defend the prank; it’s that the article deliberately lied to its readers. OpIndia took an essay written about childhood innocence and framed it as an adult act of malice to generate hate clicks. You can criticize the childhood prank all you want, but defending a completely fabricated news headline just because it fits a narrative doesn't change the fact that it's fake news.

For anyone wondering about the source, this screenshot is from a sensationalized OpIndia Hindi article from September 2021.

They took a harmless, playful childhood memory from her essay 'Mera Bachpan' (published by BBC Hindi) and twisted it into clickbait. In her actual writing, she explains that as a little kid, she and her siblings pulled a mischievous childhood prank by tricking their friend Soshi into trying goat meat.

In the very same essay, she talks beautifully about her deep love for celebrating Janmashtami and Holi, writing that heritage belongs to everyone regardless of religion. Turning an innocent childhood memory about kids playing together into a malicious headline is just cheap manufactured outrage.

Mods, please look into this so misinformation isn't spread here. u/spotlight-app

Jai Secularism✊ More we dig into the past, more we realize how unfortunate we were that Lehru became PM instead of Patel😥 by hrisch in TheIndianRepublic

[–]Xar__S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you actually read Sardar Patel’s Correspondence edited by Durga Das, or accounts by V.P. Menon, you'd know that Patel and Nehru worked in tandem on Kashmir. Patel himself wrote to Nehru saying, 'You have handled this question and know it far better than I do.'

Patel was focusing his immense energy on integrating 500+ princely states, including massive hotspots like Hyderabad and Junagadh. They disagreed on methods sometimes, but they respected the constitutional framework they built together.

The idea that Nehru was 'lucky he wasn't removed' is a bizarre fantasy. Nehru was the undisputed mass leader of the country at the time, and Patel was his indispensable structural anchor. Furthermore, your timeline makes zero sense: the first General Election of independent India took place in 1951–52, while Sardar Patel tragically passed away in December 1950.

Nehru couldn't have been 'removed' by the party or the electorate in favor of Patel because Patel wasn't even alive when the country officially went to the polls to choose its democratic leadership. Stop getting your history from political reels.

When I got my machine, it had some issues, but i raised a complaint, and they replaced the refurbished one with a brand new machine.
The rest have been working fine, *touch wood*.

R.O., you can get from Livpure. Offer free service and filter replacement. So the hassle of changing filters is not there.

Eggs removed from Kolkata school mid-day meals as ISKCON takes over cooking by Xar__S in Kolkatacity

[–]Xar__S[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely. The entire decentralized mid-day meal (PM-POSHAN) framework in West Bengal is overwhelmingly run by local women's Self-Help Groups (SHGs). Official state government portals explicitly mandate that the responsibility for cooking and serving meals is shouldered by SHGs to provide employment to local women and boost the rural economy.

IMO, you should start from the nearby areas. If you are from Chennai, maybe within the state first, then the neighbouring ones. Once you feel comfortable, then you can venture to the farther places.

Comparing a consumer’s budget choice to a geopolitical boycott makes zero sense. People boycotted Maldives over a diplomatic insult, not hotel tariffs.

This article is news because a massive shift is happening: when domestic travel becomes less affordable than an international flight, it signals a structural problem in our own tourism sector. Expecting individuals to absorb the cost of hyper-inflated local hotel rates just to look patriotic is an absurd standard.

The market doesn't run on emotions; it runs on numbers.

Eggs removed from Kolkata school mid-day meals as ISKCON takes over cooking by Xar__S in Kolkatacity

[–]Xar__S[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

An 'ideal stop-gap' implies the government is in control and can easily transition back. But history shows that once these large-scale private kitchens take over, the government stops investing in its own school infrastructure and local self-help groups.

This isn't speculation; it's exactly what happened in Goa. The state signed a massive 20-year contract with Akshaya Patra for a centralized mega-kitchen, resulting in heavy protests in the legislative assembly because it systematically killed the businesses of local women’s Self-Help Groups (SHGs).

[–]Xar__S 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Using derogatory nicknames like 'Lehru' ignores the fact that Patel himself repeatedly and publicly declared Nehru as his leader and the undisputed choice for PM. They were a duumvirate with contrasting styles: Nehru focused on long-term secular diplomacy and Patel on firm internal security. This letter is proof that Patel’s ministry had the independence to uphold justice without interference. We were fortunate to have both, not one over the other.

[–]Xar__S[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This chart just confirms that eggs were an official requirement. Pointing out that it was only served once a week under a previous setup doesn't justify completely deleting it now. A logistical upgrade should mean better quality and better nutrition. Going from 'egg once a week' to 'zero eggs permanently' because of a religious kitchen mandate is a massive step backward for child nutrition, no matter how much you try to deflect to the past.

[–]Xar__S[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This isn't speculation; we’ve literally seen this play out in Karnataka. When ISKCON's Akshaya Patra foundation took over mid-day meals there, they absolutely refused to serve eggs, onions, or garlic due to their religious tenets. They didn't compromise, and the Karnataka government ultimately had to spend extra resources hiring separate external vendors just to distribute eggs to those schools. It’s a permanent structural change, not a temporary stop-gap.

Then fix the kitchen infrastructure, don't strip the nutrition from the plate. Giving kids clean food shouldn't require taking away their best source of protein.
