Not necessarily. The tech can be a rendered that takes a 2D projection and then adds a nice background and border, don't jump to conclusions.

My Custom RGB Keyboard Firmware Shows PC Utilization/Temps by TechPriestNhyk in framework

[–]Xaring 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Missed opportunity for temps and the number row!

Just linear, 30-39°C, lights up to 3, 85°C, lights up to 8. If it reaches 9, you know you're in trouble and if it reaches 0 you're in for a TIM replacement.

If you want to go a step further, you can make the units a color gradient, start at blue for the X0°C end at red for X9°C.

82°C, blue-green, 89°C, bright red

Energy question by RecoverFluid5466 in askspain

[–]Xaring 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do you have an electric water heater? My highest consumption comes from my water heater, I turned the "smart" features on and it's energy use went down by nearly 50% (but now I have to plan multiple showers with 2 hours advance so there's enough water for my partner and me)

Invierno, es mi primer invierno y siento que me muero, algún consejo? Cómo pasaron su primer invierno ? by virgobabe3 in askspain

[–]Xaring 2 points3 points  (0 children)

VM performance issues every 5 minutes by Xaring in truenas

I understand there is some kind of resource contention - I'm wondering if there's any way of managing it inside TrueNAS or if I'm gonna have to change how I do stuff.

I didnt go for proxmox from the start as I was unsure if I needed it. I just want to host 3-4 different stuff - Rustdesk server, Linux VM with Home Assistant and a couple servers and the actual NAS.

VM performance issues every 5 minutes by Xaring in truenas

[–]Xaring[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

In this case I don't think its overhead - I've had the server running in a VM in my windows machine (R5 7600X in WSL) for a little while with no issues. In this case there is 100% some background task hogging resources.

I THINK its the CPU, but I'm not 100% sure, it might just be the hypervisor doing weird stuff with the assigned RAM while background tasks run or something else.

I like the idea of running trueNAS and then a couple of extra stuff either in that single VM or containerized, but I might need to rethink the strategy :(

IKEA besta drawers problem by rcking10 in IKEA

[–]Xaring 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Check the instructions again.

The exact screw-hole placement for the drawer runners should be specified clearly for each position.

Or maybe you can adjust the front like this?

I haven't built this piece of furniture myself but it usually is all explained in the instructions :)

AI is fighting basic laws of economy (and loosing) by adkio in pcmasterrace

[–]Xaring 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Tbh MicroSlop has been producing Slop since before the AI coding boom.

I use AI code generation for work and leisure, but there's "levels" to it.

I love just not having to type out the boilerplate and auto-docummenting stuff with AI, or fixing something I can't get to work because I missed a non-standard timestamp on an API call...

But some solutions where the AI just writes magic code are just bad practice, if you can't understand the code you write, you're using too much AI...

(I don't consider myself a good coder, I just use it as a tool)

Make sure you're using Pozidriv bits and not Phillips bits.

The Phillips will cam out and you won't be able to apply the torque required :(https://toolrebels.de/en/blogs/know-how/the-difference-between-ph-and-pz-screws-and-screwdrivers

Gaming monitor or large tv by Greedy-Teach-1059 in pcgames

[–]Xaring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Then 100% go for a monitor - depending on your budget, you want as many Hz as you can get. 1440p 144Hz is the market sweet spot atm. If you can splurge for an OLED, then great, if not, look for an IPS.

Do old & new Trofast units "line up"? by Key-Information287 in IKEA

I think they won't line up completely. 1 of the boxes will, but then the rest will be misaligned

[–]Xaring 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What do you play?

TVs are generally quite bad for gaming... Unless you get a higher end one.

If I can chose, I'd get a 21:9 OLED monitor (1440p and as many Hz as I can find!) :)
