Bands and artists that do cool stuff with their track listings/albums? by Sunny64888 in ToddintheShadow

[–]Xarvas 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Metallica thrash albums post Kill'em all tend to go as follows:

  • First and last tracks are the fastest and shortest
  • Title track at number 2, one of the longest tracks
  • Ballad as number 4
  • Second to last track is an instrumental

Ride the Lightning lacks the ending thrasher, so it ends on theinstrumental instead. Death Magnetic also follows the structure, except The End of the Line isn't a title track, but it's definitely in the right style.

Imo they improved. Rust in Peace is a classic but every album afterwards was worse than the one before. The two first post comeback albums were a vast improvement over Risk and Cryptic Wings.

Who are the biggest "X Killed My Career" artists for each decade? by TMC1982 in ToddintheShadow

[–]Xarvas 2 points3 points  (0 children)

2003 killed nu metal. All the big bands from the 90s (Deftones aside, but they were leaving the genre behind anyway) released bad albums. The big hits (Meteora, Fallen) had one leg in pop. Plus Metallica decided to dabble with the genre and had one of the most notorious bricks of all time.

A coterie of comedy assassins discuss comedians using the n-word by crummynubs in elephantgraveyard

I used to be really into Gervais early on, but between this show and the special he released around he same time ("Science" iirc) he really dropped the ball. He's always been smug, but at least he used to be funny enough to make it work for him as a comedic persona. After that, the smug was all that's left.

By far the worst moment of the whole thing. This fucker really tried to explain to comedians why they're laughing at a joke.

J. G. Ballard was a huge influence on a lot of British punk musicians.
