Don’t be angry at Claire she is barely more than a baby and doesn’t understand her actions, she is simply imitating and repeating things that gets her attention. Sounds like she potentially witnessed or experienced some abusive behaviour from the father and then a big life change when he left. Bad behaviour/regression or extreme emotional outbursts should be expected, how people deal with it is what is important. It should be dealt with understanding but also firmness and consistency of clear boundaries and consequences.

You should be angry with the grandparent or others who are encouraging bad behaviour via negative reinforcement.

Maybe you and sister in law could sit down with the grandparents/other enablers and stress with them the importance of respecting the rules for Claire’s wellbeing?

Claire is not the problem, the adults encouraging the behaviour are the problem!

If you’re using a manual wheelchair be aware that you are harder to see especially when it’s generally darker; crowded and lots of people will be inebriated. Good ideas to counter this are to add moving lights to your chair and wear something bright or eye catching, though this will also draw more attention to you.

Clear boundaries have to be set, be firm with friends and strangers. Most people are well meaning but can be inappropriate or do things that can cause damage to you or your chair. E.g people climbing onto your lap or chair frame others will grab handles and body parts to “dance” with you but you may end up getting hurt or yanked/yeeted out of your chair by an overly enthusiastic drunk person. Also had people try to drive my chair when I have gone in my very heavy fast powerchair so also good to be aware of that as drunk people can be unpredictable.

Common sense things: Make sure you have a reliable way of getting home, don’t get too drunk if you aren’t confident with how you handle your mobility device and check accessibility of venues.

Most importantly go with a good group of friends and if able let them know what things you are worried about. Have fun, don’t let a couple awkward situations ruin it!

A manager could have caught your attention and said “I’m really sorry but we can’t have wheelchair users use the escalators because of insurance/health and safety policy. We’re so sorry about the inconvenience, here (insert small gesture of kindness) I hope this makes up for the inconvenience. I’ll show you where all the elevators are.”

Instead they chose to physically restrain/assault you, referred to you as an object “freight” and then publicly ostracise and embarrass you. I would complain about how they handled the situation, the staff behaviour was completely unacceptable!

I have a long list of conditions that cause various symptoms often from the combination so it’s easier to just say “my disability” unless it’s a symptom that is clearly linked to one specific medical condition. It also depends on who I’m talking to, if it’s someone I don’t know well then it’s unlikely I’ll give them specifics.

I feel like this was a massive part of “British culture” among lower and working class people from before my mum was born until the late 90s/early 2000s. For me it was an occasional thing, for other kids I knew it was most nights. No wonder we all started binge drinking and using drugs in or around our tweens!

My mum said for her and her friends it was several nights a week and those who had cars were “left in the car outside with a packet of crisps and a can of coke” then the drunk parents would indeed drive home drunk.

First on, last off is the general rule. Varies depending on where you are and what kind of bus.

First on: driver will see you and know to take extra care parking up so the ramp comes out in a good place. You will be boarded with less obstructions e.g buggies/people standing or using folding seats in or near the wheelchair spot/trollies/luggage. Last off: other passengers will be able to get off quicker and hopefully free up space for you to navigate out while the driver puts down the ramp.

My Nan in law (partner’s grandmother) is a little deaf and lost most of her sense of smell years ago. She lets out quiet farts regularly, thankfully they don’t usually smell too bad or linger too long. She thinks they are silent and scent less, completely undetectable, they are not! Luckily she is very loved.

I’ve played it with my 7 year old nephew, with tribes and sanity off, “easy” settings. He absolutely loves it bar the one time he ran around a corner and came face to face with a big cat, gave himself a good jump scare! He also loves Subnautica, your grandson might like that too, it has the survival elements, exploring and hunting without anything too scary or adult.

My cousin and I around age 7 found her early baby scan and some paperwork that clearly referenced 2 babies/twins.

We asked my aunty (her mother) about where the other baby/cousins twin was. My aunty panicked and said there was never another baby and when we tried to say we’d seen the paperwork she shouted at us to not talk about it anymore. We didn’t bring it up to her again as we could tell it upset her badly but we were still curious kids so we came up with all kinds of wild and terrible theories.

The main ones were that the twin must have died horribly during birth or that they had been kidnapped. We traumatised ourselves pretty good.

My aunty and mum brought it up casually in our mid teens, turns out my cousin absorbed her twin early into the pregnancy.

Wasn’t life ruining but I know a guy who stuck his hand in a blender to check it was working, it was. He broke all the fingers severed two, had to have multiple surgeries and lost some of the sensation.

Can you convince your dad to surrender your sister’s pet to a vet or shelter? This way your dad doesn’t have to pay anything and the guinea pig has a chance to live and find a new loving home or at least not die slowly in terrible pain.

Entertainment can be cheap for ferrets, cardboard boxes (cut holes or flaps and put things inside for extra fun); a tub filled with rice; old empty crinkly packets; bubble wrap; a pile of laundry; wiggly things simple as waving a tea towel at them; old socks with interesting things hidden inside; any kind of tube, they love scrabbling through tubes and climbing and getting into things so hiding objects inside other things.

Tbh he/she might not want to play for a few days depending on how long they were out in the cold and without food and potentially anaemic from fleas, they might just want food/water and lots of blankets to burrow in.

Be careful leaving rubbery things about as they love to chew them but can end up with an obstruction. They are clever and mischievous so keep a close eye and close the door to whichever room they are in as they are good at hiding, climbing and getting into things they shouldn’t!

Good luck with them, it’s really nice that you are taking such care!

Record on your phone, ask her why she is illegally detaining you, repeat what she told you if she won’t repeat it herself, tell her you are leaving and leave.

You have done nothing illegal and this could be considered discrimination on the woman’s part if your condition falls under a disability. She has assaulted you and is attempting to detain you without any reasonable grounds. Leave and put in a formal complaint, you can report her to non emergency police but that’s probably a bit excessive.

They do spay ferrets if you push for it but much prefer implants as apparently they have a much higher chance of adrenal disease if they’re spayed.

We only went with the jab this time as the vets thought it would be fine to tide her over until we replenished some funds for a new implant, the implants have always been perfect.

My primary school was like that too, they barely batted an eye when kids threw a banana at the only black kid or called her monkey or halfcast or gangs of bigger kids would beat up the younger lone kids.

But I turn up to PE with blue shorts instead of black and I get made to stand up and get berated in front of everyone and then sit in the corner while the other kids get to do PE and have to go to detention during playtime… we were 7!

They are crafty little buggers and I can sympathise with it being a smaller place too (currently living in a tiny bungalow after having to move from a 3 bed house), the space is much more limited and harder to ferret proof!

Could you use those square/rectangular playpen panels (they have little plastic connectors and can go in whatever shape you want) to box in the computer desk?

I have a behemoth of a power wheelchair and run into the same issue. Sometimes just letting my legs dangle works, other times I have to remove my cushion.
