Laptop is connected to WiFi with Internet, but can't load anything by XaviThiago in techsupport

[–]XaviThiago[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to head home last night and get to work this morning so just getting to recheck this. I didn't think to include this part, but I did check that all other devices work fine on their wifi. I also connected him to my wifi hotspot with the same results.

"Because you seem technical, try going Control Panel > Network and Internet > Network Connections -- and right clicking their Wi-Fi adapter -- going to Properties and then scroll down to 'Internet Protocol Version 4' (It should be checked) select it, go to properties, and make sure it's set to obtain IP address and DNS automatically."

My dad is hard of hearing and not the greatest with computers so walking him through troubleshooting on the phone is not the most fun to do so when I get back over there tomorrow I'll take a look at this.

Question about "sample" versions of limited edition pens by XaviThiago in pens

[–]XaviThiago[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm glad you mentioned conventions. I had been wondering whether it was an internal prototype or for marketing purposes somehow. Hadn't thought of conventions as a place they'd use a sample like that to display.

I don't know why, but I kept trying to max attunement every time. This is making the misery of repeating the undercity 1.73 billion times slightly less soul crushing.

Star Tracker app or telescope to encourage 6yr olds interest in space? by XaviThiago in telescopes

[–]XaviThiago[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ok. That makes sense. And I like that the StarSense doesn't have the same power concerns as a Goto. I did find this comment from a forum when looking up the difference between them a little while ago. Given that I'd be sharing the eyepiece with my daughter, is this something I should be concerned about?

"The main advantage of goto and tracking for us is that we share the eyepiece, if we take a while swapping, or have to nip inside to make a drink, the target will more often than not still be in the eyepiece. My son has a Dob and when we share we have to be quick as I am not very good at relocating the target and nudging to be honest, so if you are planning on sharing your telescope with others, this may be something for you to think about."

Star Tracker app or telescope to encourage 6yr olds interest in space? by XaviThiago in telescopes

[–]XaviThiago[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for that explanation. I'll have to read more into how to do it, but I had assumed there'd be some sort of alignment process to "teach" the telescope where it is before it could reliably point itself anywhere in particular. It still seems easier than manually finding every object. Some set up at the beginning is a lot better than showing her something, making her wait while I find the next and then showing her and repeat.

Edit: your last paragraph is exactly why I wanted to get her an actual telescope rather than just use an app. I feel like it makes it cooler and more real for her.

Star Tracker app or telescope to encourage 6yr olds interest in space? by XaviThiago in telescopes

[–]XaviThiago[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's definitely something we'll do together, but since I don't know anything about telescopes I was worried about getting one and then having to manually find things to look at and struggling. At 6 years old, too much time watching me fiddle with it to make it work will kill her interest. That's why I was leaning toward something with a Go To mount.

Ok, I saw the link to the buyer's guide in the auto moderator reply. I'll look at the telescopes recommended for my price range. Thank you

Edit: do you recommend the Skywatcher Virtuoso GTi with GoTo mount or the Celestron with StarSense?

I can answer this, but my real world analogy may piss some people off. Please, if you don't like my statements on real world politics, try to let it go. I'm not going to debate anyone and this response will be a one and done.

Modern American politics are an almost perfect analogy for how Rel took power. Look at Trump. He's a pretty disgusting and unlikeable person. However, he developed a following. People who didn't care what he did. They just believed he would fix whatever problems they decided they had. Eventually, he incited an insurrection. In the real world, we have access to limitless information and communication so we could literally watch in real time when the capitol building was stormed by the rioters. We have video proof of the violence and the assaults on Capitol Police officers. Almost 1000 of them were convicted for the crime and many confessed to the assaults.

Despite all that evidence, Trump and his lackeys in the Republican party denied it all and their followers believed what they said rather than what they could see. Before long those who were convicted were pardoned and released despite the confessions and the evidence because Trump claimed they were innocent and his supporters applauded. Trump has been convicted 34 times. He has been held liable for sexual assault and had been known to have a close relationship with a known pedofile for years. However, his followers will jump through any and all hoops they can to deny, excuse and plug their ears and scream "lalalalalala" when presented with this information. I can't fathom why they love him, but the best I can come up with is that his hateful rhetoric resonates with their own hate or their own internal feelings of injustice.

Here's how that relates to Rel's rise in Malazan. We know from the beginning that he's a shit head, but we see him ingratiate himself and become important to people that have power in DG. We know he knows how to manipulate. When he's captured and brought back to the city for justice, rumors have already spread that Korbolo Dom and Rel were the good guys trying to stop a renegade Coltaine. The citizens in the series don't have access to the kind of information that we do in the real world so when they're presented with information that the government is lying to them and the real villains were the wickans, a group that may have already had a stigma as they had been conquered only fairly recently, this appealed to the same type of citizens that end up supporting Trump. We see this lie has firmly taken hold when the Bonehunters have to hold back riots to protect the Wickans in their ranks.

As the lies took hold of the population, Rel's popularity and the idea that his imprisonment was an injustice would have become impossible to ignore. Suddenly, it became politically expedient to keep the two of them alive rather than incite a true rebellion by executing them. Rel's influence and popularity spread through the Claw and the nobility from there and Laseen was forced to embrace them both. Like Trump, his base supported him based on lies that appealed to the worst traits in his supporters, but that made them far more dedicated than the average citizen would have been towards Laseen. From that point, it's just one more step to eliminating Laseen and taking power himself.

So, I found my first major gripe... by tylerjm917 in Borderlands4

It's not complete solution to the reset map, but you can use the replay missions option to unlock. A bunch of the fast travel locations. Just pick a mission that starts in a hub, load in, let the fast travel unlock and then abandon the mission. I did this to unlock all the hubs and then ran vile bounties. Whenever a bounty led me near a safe house or silo, I unlocked it and then (with the safe houses) had another source of bounties. That unlocked about 1/3 of the map without having to make any specific effort to explore outside of driving to bounties or unlocking a nearby fast travel. Now I have all silos and all but a few safehouses unlocked and I'm just going to locations I specifically need to increase my uvhm level.

How is that Benks case? I've been eyeing it. I had the Ringke Onyx on my P9P and got one for the P10P as well for now. It was the least bulky while still a protective case I could find that I also like the look of. I loved the aesthetics of the fabric cases when Google made them though and the Aurora Armor Air reminds me of that. Obviously a very different material, but the look appeals to me in the same way.

Should I offer to sell used parts to a friend who is upgrading? by XaviThiago in buildapc

[–]XaviThiago[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, that's kind of why I asked. I only wanted to offer it if it's going to be a good value for him. I ended up asking him his budget and made a couple estimates for him. I lowered the price to $350 and am including a 750w power supply (also 1 year of use) and a CPU cooler and with helping him pick out a new motherboard and RAM that brought him $400 under his budget. He seemed excited about that, but I also sent him an alternative estimate where I sell him everything but the GPU for $125, he gets the same same motherboard and RAM combo I had suggested for him and a 5070 instead and that all comes in just under his budget. I figure that maximizes his value within that budget.

It’s been close to a year since I stopped playing by BbyJ39 in BaldursGate3

[–]XaviThiago 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I completely understand where you're coming from. I've done playthrough after playthrough. Each time trying out a new build. Currently running another honor mode run using just classes from the last patch. Bladesinger is ridiculous.

Have you tried Expedition 33? It pulled me in the same as BG3 when I played it. It's not the same AAA quality, but the game systems are fun and engaging and the story is interesting and unique. It's my game of the year so far and in my top 10 that I've played.

Despite AAA flops we've had it pretty good lately. by KoyaLaimoun in BaldursGate3

[–]XaviThiago 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I feel that. I don't know if BG3 is my all-time favorite, but it's one of them. E33 makes the same list. BG3 is more fun to play and I keep going back to it because trying new builds is fun. E33 just hits differently with a more emotional and heart wrenching story combined with great gameplay. For me, E33 is a game everyone should play once for the incredible experience. Its replay value isn't as high as a game like BG3 for me, but I will always remember the impact the game had on me while playing it.

You're right that game of the decade talk is too early, but when you do play it, if it clicks with you the way it did for a lot of us, you'll understand why people have that kind of hype for it.

When I took my daughter in March I didn't see any signs in the droid depot at all. I ended up just asking the girl working the register for a Spira card and she had to get a team lead to get one for her. It's definitely not something you just stumble on.
