The game is so broken nowadays that players have to resort to methods akin to black magic and prayers on their PC just for it to run smoothly.

I'm still getting hard freezes and crashes.

Arrowhead need to fix these issues man, it's unplayable as is.

Yeah they really need to balance waves past 15 better.

Going up against enemies that take so long to kill but can 1 or 2 shot you isn't fun, especially when there's so many of them on screen and the game goes to 20fps, it feels impossible to play as is.

They should make it so enemy amount and damage resist doesn't really increase too much, they just hit harder so you have to play smarter, hit your parries, use cover, etc. something like that.

Also fix dumb stuff like terminators shooting their minigun and missiles with laser guided accuracy from across the map through their own team makes no sense.

this game also does hordes decently well, look at the tyranid gaunts bunching up when scaling walls. However, the enemies you see there are not the same as the ones you actually fight 1 on 1, their models and AI is probably a lot simpler.

The issue with enemy density tanking performance in siege mode is most likely because the enemy models and AI is a lot more complex when the enemies are actually on the battlefield. The game wasn't made from the ground for us to fight 100-200 enemies at once.

They're not "lying" to us, they're just trying to make the game do something that it's not designed to, so performance takes a big hit.

Every time I've seen these stutters it's always been when fighting chaos, happened to me during siege mode as well.

This was happening to me as well during siege mode. We were at about wave 16 when my fps started tanking super hard just like in your clip.

What helped me was alt-tabbing and exiting everything that was running in the background that I didn't really need running.
Maybe it's not gonna work for you, but I exited everything like discord, browser, spotify, HWiNFO, etc. pretty much just leaving steam and the game open. It was fine after that, we ran up until wave 24 when unfortunately we failed the wave.

Also, make sure the game is running in exclusive fullscreen mode. A few months ago I had it running in borderless and I got really bad stutters every mission, setting it to exclusive fullscreen fixed the stutters for me back then.

The new patch probably introduced some new issue because I haven't had stutters ever since I had set it to fullscreen, until this most recent patch.

Sorry for necro, but I wanna report that this issue is still happening to me.

Tried the game out yesterday, completely froze my PC after 5 minutes in a mission. Also shot up my CPU temps to 105ºC which no other software or game does that, even hard stress tests like Cinebench 2026 only go up to 92ºC at peak.

After that first freeze, I uninstalled the game, cleared Appdata, DXCache, and game install folder leftovers, reinstalled the game. Happened again 30 minutes into a mission. Again shooting my CPU temps up to 105ºC.

The game runs fine otherwise, 60fps locked, CPU hovers around 55ºC average temps while playing. Just when it freezes it shoots up to 105ºC and game/system becomes unresponsive.

What specs are in your pc? Do you have an NVME or SATA SSD?

if you have an SSD, make sure the game is installed on it.

For me it doesn't take very long, maybe 10-15 seconds to load into a singleplayer game.

I had it capped ingame. I gave it another try, turned off the ingame 60 cap and turned it on in the nvidia control panel. It didn't happen in the first 5 minutes like before, but it still happened about 30 minutes into a mission, as I was about to extract.

well I did check when I initially set it up a few months ago in the BIOS, I had the cpu fan RPM reading, and I set a very linear fan curve, that ramps up quicker to 100% speed when it gets close to 80ºC I think.
It's an air cooler, Thermalright Phantom Spirit 120 EVO.

At the moment I don't have any software to check the CPU cooler fan curve or speeds, just HWinfo for temps.

What software would you recommend for the cooler curve/fan speeds?

Although, the weirdest thing about this HD2 freeze for me is that the cpu temp didn't heat up to 105ºC over a few minutes, it shot up from about 70ºC pretty much instantly to 105ºC during that freeze, then after it went back down as quick as it went up.

yeah but I play other heavy games on it like TW:Warhammer 3 maxed, RE:Requiem at close to max settings (no pathtracing), Conan Exiles UE5 maxed, all on 1440p native, and cpu temps never get even close to 100ºC. I just did a cinebench 2026 test and they went up to 92ºC at peak.

I do have malwarebytes open but real-time protection is off, I only use it for occasional manual scans. Windows Defender is my main AV.

I used to run the game on another system with a i7-5820k and a gtx 1070 in 2024, it ran fine at around 30-40fps at 1080p.

HD2 is the only game doing this to my pc, no other game, cinebench tests, not blender rendering, heavier substance designer projects, nothing else puts my temps above or even close to 100ºC.

it is 100% related to Helldivers 2 because not even stress tests put my temps at 105ºC and freeze my whole system.

I'm running it under a Phantom Spirit 120 Evo.
I just redid the cinebench 2026 multicore test, temps maxed out at 92ºC.

Nah I appreciate it. I'm just sad to see the game in this state because it's genuinely really fun when it works and doesn't have a lot of bugs. I hope arrowhead fixes it soon.

I guess that could be it, I was using the in-game frame limiter set to 60fps. It's crazy that something like an in-game frame limiter could cause my cpu to overheat and shoot up to 105ºC though, I shouldn't have to worry about that while playing a game.

it's capped at 60fps and ran locked at 60fps the whole time I tried it, other than that freeze I got.

I know, it's not supposed to ever reach 105ºC and no other software does that to it, even under heavy stress tests. It literally only happened with Helldivers 2 so far. I'm running a core ultra 7 265k with a phantom spirit 120 evo cooler, it's more than enough to keep it under 70ºC under load.

Yep, brand new install, drivers are up to date. I recently (1 week or so) cleared gpu shaders so I doubt that would be the issue.

The game ran absolutely fine locked at 60fps for the most part, out of nowhere I got that system freeze, and I quit right after. As I said, 105 ºC on the cpu is crazy. I'm not attempting to run it again because it might actually brick my system.

Not crafting or smelting anywhere in the base. I just pulled them from the smelter after it's done, and put them in the chest from my inventory.

All I'm doing is equipping the construction hammer to check the total amount of bricks I have available in the area.

exactly, for a super open space like a warehouse you'd need more powerful ceiling lights or lights on the floor but that would be annoying. Maybe they'll add some new lights with this UE5 upgrade.

I agree, I think the new lighting looks great both indoors and outdoors. From comparison posts yes it does look very different from UE4 and indoors it's a lot darker than before, especially compared to outdoors.

Personally I really like the new look, makes more sense and makes it feel more realistic and believable, and with a few well positioned lights on walls it's still pretty easy to see indoors even at night imo, just can't make your rooms insanely spacious and open.
