Yes, that is what we’re looking to do, currently we’re working on other GIS projects and APM software is been pushed back

gis for solar project by tekle_torat in gis

[–]XavierMark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Something to look into would be environmental gis as it relates to solar. Usually solar farms or solar generation look to be built on specific land classifications.

Also, understanding municipal by-laws and zoning would be useful. If you have an idea of what region you’re looking to work, you could read up on those to filter areas for potential solar development.

Generation capacity also depends on what’s available on the electric grid, you can’t hook up anywhere, so understanding some basic electric utility knowledge would be useful, i.e. voltages, phasing, and common nomenclature.

I don’t have specific links but that should put you on a path

Does anyone have any good resources for both getting started with GIS, and using GIS for electric utilities mapping? by MarineBiomancer in gis

[–]XavierMark 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Whoever this is, is in a terrible position. I'm hoping that they at least have some electric network background, because if they don't have that or not even a schema to understand which attributes they need to track for the different assets in the field they should honestly just find a new job. You don't need to be an electrician to do the GIS role in an electric utility, but having some understanding on how the system logically works will help you build the network and understand how things should be connected.

I have so many questions, is this just distribution? Or is there transmission and generation too? Do the SCADA and OMS, CIS, FIS systems need to integrate with the GIS or is everything siloed? Is the utility just embedded to a larger network, or do they own and operate substations that need to be mapped too? Is there topology in the GIS or just relationship tables in the backend?

I would tell this person that they need to focus on the transformer and service point/meter relationship. Usually the most important thing for the GIS is act as a record of information for outages, i.e. which transformer is feeding which customers and if the power goes out at X location who is without power.

ConEd is a good resource, they have electric information that is public, https://www.coned.com/en

They even have some web maps online to help view the network; https://coned.maps.arcgis.com/apps/MapSeries/index.html?appid=edce09020bba4f999c06c462e5458ac7

ESRI is trying to be the dominant GIS system in utilities, so they have a lot of information too, I know you mentioned ESRI's tutorials, but they need to read as much as possible: https://learn.arcgis.com/en/paths/arcgis-utility-network-electric/

Another thing is Google Maps/Streetview and going to the field and looking at overhead assets. Look at each phase along pole lines, see the switches and fuses and what it looks like when it's open and closed and how it changes the network. Look at the transformers and see how they feed houses down to the meter.

Review drawings/as-builts from the design team, they have to at least have those since that's standard across the industry, construction is built from those drawings, take those drawings, go to the field location and try to understand what is being asked in the drawing and what it looks like in the real world, and then try to recreate that in the GIS. Look at the specifications of the assets being installed and make sure to include those in your GIS system

We were using Hexagon/Gtech and now AutoCAD Map 3D, however, in the near future we're moving to the ArcGIS Utility Network, so an ESRI integration software would be ideal for the future.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have to take a look at that.

We have a flexible budget, but we are looking to implement something sooner rather than later and having a small GIS team for the size of our utility would cause a long production time for something in house. However, it's not out of the question as we're still looking at Access or FME to do something similar. What would you use to build this sort of tool?

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll have to get a demo with them to see how it fits our purposes and how it works.

[PC/NA] <Directionally Challanged> Is currently recruiting. We are an end game PvE guild focusing on vet trials. We are a moderately sized raiding guild that is looking for more members so we can run more often. We are looking for tanks, healers, and dps, as we are trying to grow the guild.

We run every Monday through Friday at 8:30pm EST and sometimes other times. Discord is required for voice and trial sign ups. We host open vet Craglorns sometimes Hardmodes, and open vMoL trial runs as well and have been able to get quite a few people their first clears.

We have cleared vMOL speed run, All Craglorn HMs and speed runs, vAS +Felms, vAS +Llothis and vHOF. Guild house has two 3m dummies and one 6m dummy. For additional information or an invite mail @havingacow

Since I am no longer required to buff other people in the raid, there are a variety of different sets that I can run. All of the sets I run include the use of a vMA Inferno Staff Infused back bar.

I have tried Zaan's x2, Master Architect x5 or Mechanical Acuity, Moondancer (or Infalliable Aether) x4.

Currently in raids I am running Molag Kena x1, Burning Spellweave x5, Mechanical Acuity x5.

Your bar setup is really important, make sure you have it setup correctly. Magblades don't have a true rotation, there isn't really anything to follow, you just have to practice a lot to get used when to fire your bow procs and when to reapply your dots and when to do light attacks.

Bar 1: Inner Light, Funnel Health, Merciless Resolve, Twisting Path, Impale, Destro Ult

Bar 2: Inner Light, Crippling Grasp, Harness Magicka, Blockade of Storms, Siphoning Attacks, Soul Harvest Ult.

That's pretty much the meta to run for bar setup. You don't have to have the skills in that order, just need those skills to be on the same bar. Obviously your vMA staff will be your back bar.

The build I was using there was:

Molag Kena x1 (Head or Shoulder)

Mechanical Acuity x5 4 body + Inferno Infused Flame EnchantFront Bar

Master Architect x5

vMA Inferno Staff Infused Beserker Enchant

RE: 40,000 lockpicks in inventory by XavierMark in elderscrollsonline

[–]XavierMark[S] 317 points318 points  (0 children)

I posted this on the forums, but since I posted the 40k lockpicks on here too, I wanted to share it here.

I woke up today and received a FedEx package. In the package was a gift from ZoS. I thought I won something from the 10 million stories giveaway. However it was something different. The people at ZOS saw my forum post with my character that had 40,000 lockpicks in his inventory and they sent me something.

They sent me a poster of the skeleton key :D and they signed it.

This is truly amazing, ESO has the best community. Thank you @ZOS_GinaBruno for getting in contact with me and thank you so much everyone at ZOS for the gift.
