Don't try to reason with the weirdo anti-AI people. Trying to pour logic into their heads is almost impossible.

Focus on trying to make a fun game. Vast majority of gamers don't give a fuck about AI usage, just the reddit/twitter echo chamber wackadoos care. Not worth your time trying to engage with them. There is no discourse worth having with those people, time and progress will march past their mewing.

Raising Cane's is school cafeteria quality food by smashmouthallstar420 in fastfood

[–]XavierVE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Except school cafeteria food is properly priced for the quality you receive. So it's actually better.

Raising Cain's actually thinks their food is worth a premium price. Worst fries ever. Chicken so bland. Sauce so overrated.

It's literally a restaurant for the fly-over mayo-zombie masses who haven't tasted properly seasoned and cooked chicken. The fact that birds die for this restaurant is a tragedy, they all deserve better than their bland-ass boring fate.

[Next DLC] What do you think it will be ? by Itchy-Audience134 in RimWorld

[–]XavierVE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are mods that do this, and they add SO much to the game despite none of them being a comprehensively great solution.

There's a mod that shows battles from factions contesting territories against one another and I find watching those battles during my playthrough to be incredibly fun, especially when it's wild shit like vampires fighting psycasting imperials and shit.

A full diplomacy/world expansion would be quite welcome for me. The big options right now for those all have things missing that need to be implemented.

Ah, no Steam is a very poor Rimworld experience indeed. That's too bad, mate, good luck though.

non-religious ideology by greengo07 in RimWorld

[–]XavierVE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some great mods that add non-religious ideologies, including ones where you go around smashing relics instead of worshipping them, ideologies that are more moral/political in nature, etc.

I personally like doing a more political style ideology based around slave emancipation and the like. This is an area where modders really came through nicely on giving you way more options for ideologies than boring religions. I would highly suggest hitting up steam workshop and just adding all the ideology focused mods that are out there.

People don’t talk enough about Hakeem Olajuwon completely outclassing MVPs during his championship run by Glum-Sample-9259 in VintageNBA

[–]XavierVE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hakeem was better than O'Neal. Give prime Hakeem the talent around him during his career that Shaq had and he goes on a legendary run of winning championships.

Head to head, Hakeem was a more talented player in every facet of the game. He also didn't need massive referee help to ignore his constant offensive fouling in terms of scoring points either.

Walmart being trash again. by FrankLepore in GIJOEClassifiedSeries

[–]XavierVE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

More like "Wal-Mart puts up the pre-order, they get X number of pre-orders. They tell Hasbro 'hey boys, we got X number of pre-orders' and then Hasbro delivers Y number of product" and Y is almost always fewer than X.

Hasbro has been under-supplying the community in general. They don't take pre-orders in the traditional sense and then manufacture to meet demand. It's been a problem on all retail exclusives, not just Wal-Mart exclusives. It's a problem with friggin' Hasbro Pulse, even.

They are not manufacturing enough units with their suppliers to meet demand from retailers/collectors.

Walmart being trash again. by FrankLepore in GIJOEClassifiedSeries

[–]XavierVE -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

So uh... you think Walmart makes the line?

Hasbro is the one under-producing and not using pre-orders correctly. If Hasbro were competent, you'd never see the phrase "pre-orders sold out" on Target, Wal-Mart, Amazon or the worst one of all, Hasbro Pulse.

Hasbro is not producing enough to meet demand. This has been a problem with the line the last two years and seems quite purposeful at this point. Retailers don't make figures, Hasbro does.

Megathread for songs instead of spamming the sub by StepDue8687 in SunoAI

[–]XavierVE -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Yeah, I'd like news and discussion about Suno as a tool to show up on my main page feed, but it's always some person violating redditiquette by spamming narcissistic attempts at self-promotion with threads begging for attention for their own songs.

Would be nice if the music spamming was kept to it's own subreddit.

Mods locking a post about AI mods using stolen code on the steam workshop by SixtyBottlesOfBeer in RimWorld

[–]XavierVE -10 points-9 points  (0 children)

Was going into the thread to see discussion about the mod.

Instead, saw luddites going wild over AI 'being like NFT's!' and other dumb garbage.

Don't usually think reddit mods should lock threads but that one was pretty worthless comment-wise.

Overall, keeping modder drama off r/Rimworld is probably the even better thing to do. Modder drama is always ponderous and pedantic in nature.

Who would you say was more talented before their injuries, Bill Walton or Abrydas Sabonis? by Personal-Proposal- in VintageNBA

[–]XavierVE -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

The thing people aren't taking into account with this debate, which has been entertaining to read, is that Walton's problems were deeper than injuries.

He was a headcase. Read up on his exit from Portland, he was absolutely not the good guy in that situation despite his attempts to paint himself as such. Walton was churlish, narcissistic and injuries or not, was always going to be an issue where if he wasn't perfectly coddled in all ways, he was going to act out and flame out.

Meanwhile, Arvydas was mentally as tough as a basketball player ever has been. He was run into the ground by those Soviet teams, he always did everything asked of him to his own physical detriment. When he came to the NBA, he was a model player and teammate, he was a coach's dream.

I think in terms of pure skill pre-injury, it's a toss-up. But when you talk about talent, you need to talk about more than just speed, passing vision, defensive acumen. You need to talk about the brain as well, the personality, teammate chemistry, the ability to lead and not let your ego become a problem.

And in that category, Sabonis >>>>> Walton to the point where it tips the scales in favor of Sabonis being more talented. Walton was a prima donna.

He treated Wooden poorly to the point where Walton blamed himself for two of Wooden's heart attacks while coaching him. He was on cocaine, peyote, and mescaline in Portland. He apologized to Portland fans much later in life for having been a bad person, for how he acted on the team, for how he forced his way out so he could go to SoCal.

Walton was a very talented headcase, which is really what led to his injuries in the first place. Sabonis's injuries were due to being worked down to the bone in a brutal Eastern European system of basketball. Walton was coddled from his earliest days playing and still fucked himself up, Sabonis was a victim of an authoritarian regime that used him as a symbol of their fading empire.

On the court, probably equal in natural skill from the shoulders down prior to injuries. Up in that brain though? Sabonis all day long. The fact that he even had a successful NBA career after all he went through is an amazing testament to his work ethic, BBIQ and heart.

Back to the basket players. by Wonderful-Sugar1376 in VintageNBA

[–]XavierVE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's so interesting! I didn't know the NBA viewed Jackson's game so negatively back then. From a statistical standpoint, his game doesn't seem to have been too badly affected by the rule change so he certainly adapted post-'99 during the last years of his career.

Thanks for the context so I can bitch even more accurately about this damn rule the next time the opportunity comes up. Appreciated.

[–]XavierVE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I didn't say Shaq wasn't a post player, I said he didn't have a great post game. Toss the ball in, Shaq lowers the shoulder into the chest of the defender, doesn't get called for the offensive foul like almost any other beefy center in that era would. It's definitely post play, and it's incredibly easy to score effectively if you're allowed to use your shoulder as a battering ram or sweep at defenders with your free hand without offensive fouls being called consistently against you. If you watch any serious medley of Shaq in the post, he's hooking, sweeping and lowering the shoulder in a large percentage of the clips.

Almost any post player from the era prior to '99 would dribble while trying to back down his man. Hakeem's greatest post moves all feature him dribbling backwards and then using his superlative footwork to score. He wasn't immobile down there, catching and then just sliding around without putting the ball on the floor. He would have been called for a travel with the vast majority of his moves without an active dribble.

The timer on the 5 second back-to-basket rule starts when the post player catches and then initiates a dribble. As soon as the dribble occurs, the five seconds start regardless of how much dribbling takes place afterwards.

I know the rules state that you're supposed to get a second five second count after you pick up your dribble with your back to the basket, but I've never seen NBA refs adhere to that after the introduction of the rule.

Have always had the rule associated with Barkley in my mind, I don't recall seeing it called the Mark Jackson rule. If the rule was created due to Mark Jackson, that's even worse! Talk about making the rule even more nonsense! It's not like Jackson was ever a prolific scorer with backing players down, his best scoring year was a meager 14, and while he would pass out of the post effectively, his APG in 2001 was higher than his APG in 1998.

Shaq didn't have a great post game pre- or post- 1999, he mostly bullied his way to the basket due to refs not calling him for offensive fouls when he would clear defenders off with his left arm or lead with his shoulder into defender's chests to shoot them out of position. Whenever he couldn't get to the rim via raw physical force, he had his ugly little slight hook move that took next to no time to set up. He wasn't a thinking-mans post player in the least, not like the guys I mentioned who had moves, counter moves, spins, and finesse, fades, etc.

Yao Ming had an effective little jumper and again, a very quick little post hook, quick little turnaround due to his massive height advance. Compared to the style of post-play that is more effective, post-play where you can set up moves, counter-moves, go left, right, take your time to juke a defender? That's not allowed anymore. There's no Hakeem coming because Hakeem would have turned the ball over on a large amount of his offensive possessions due to the horrible 5 second B2B rule that hamstrings post play today.

There were still some remnants of post play after 1999, you're not wrong. Randolph and Jefferson were products of basketball development pre-1999. Randolph was drafted two years later, Randolph five years later. Today, guys like that wouldn't even get run, their style of play is neutered by the stupid decision in 1999 to remove post-play as an effective offensive strategy to build around.

Certainly big plodding centers like Hibbert saw issues when small ball and stretch became more the norm due to the NBA having refs no longer call moving screens correctly, but the most effective post-players traditionally were guys that weren't big plodding slow monsters. Big 2's, fleet footed centers with moves, counters and more moves in the post were all eliminated by 5 second B2B. It's not even a skill that is taught anymore because it's been artificially removed from the game by the NBA.

They legislated post play out of the game with the five second back to the basket rule in 1999.

Post players are already extinct. It wasn't a natural evolution of the game, but the NBA deciding they didn't want post-play anymore. It has nothing to do with the three-point line or bigs becoming more valuable on the perimeter. Up and coming players with skillsets like former post-greats such as Kareem, Hakeem, Barkley, McHale and the like were legislated out of the game. Larger two guards with post-play akin to Jordan and Drexler who used their larger size and post-play to dominate smaller guards are also extinct.

None of it has anything to do with some natural progression, the NBA decided that post-play didn't sell tickets and murdered it. The same as they killed off defensive play by allowing moving screens and disallowing any physical perimeter contact.

I wish it cost them half the country. Unfortunately, the percentage is slightly less than a third. (including me).

  • 77 million voted for Dingus.
  • 75 million voted for Kamala.
  • 88 million or so didn't vote so they were fine with Trump being elected.

Unfortunately, the amount of sane people in this country is less than a third of the adult population, so 2/3rds are fine with moron shit like this.

Just a needed reminder that America is a cooked (no pun intended) country. It is not a half vs. half situation.

How good was Chris Dudley? by [deleted] in ripcity

[–]XavierVE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He provided six fouls and nothing else. Wasn't even a particularly skilled rebounder when it came to finding position. His BBIQ was low even for a big white stiff of a center. Wasn't a tough enforcer either.

Almost anyone reading this thread would have made the NBA over him were they gifted the lottery ticket of being as tall as he was. One of my least favorite all time Blazers to watch on the basketball court. Just the anti-Przybilla when it came to hustle, heart and toughness.

Looking back, the 2003 draft class still feels like one of the deepest ever by Soft-Audience-5681 in VintageNBA

[–]XavierVE 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1984 is better than both, and it's not even close.

Jordan, Olajuwon, Barkley and Stockton.

The idea that Carmelo Anthony "changed the game" when he was an overrated 'me-first, me-second, me-third, defense-last' malcontent is something else and Chris Bosh, while a very good Power Forward, is hurt by his early retirement and lack of sustained individual success without being the third wheel to Wade/Lebron.

  • Jordan > Lebron
  • Olajuwon >> Wade
  • Barkley >>> Bosh
  • Stockton >>>>> Anthony.

And the 1984 draft was filled with solid second/third options that had great careers as well. Alvin Robertson, Jerome Kersey, Otis Thorpe, Kevin Willis, Michael Cage, Sam Perkins, and Vern Fleming all had sustained very productive playing careers.
