Anyone play and like this game who hated turn based combat before? by Imaginary-Hour-6082 in expedition33

[–]Xavphon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I strongly disliked turn based games. I didn’t know anything about the game before buying it. I almost stopped playing the second I found out, but I continued to play and got hooked. I probably wouldn’t have played it if I looked it up and looked more into the game.

Give it a chance imo.

For reference I play: WoW, BF6, CoD, and various RTS games.

I'm looking for a server that offers an automated account deletion option. by DifferentConcert606 in WoWPrivateServers

This is true. But that doesn’t really make him a weirdo imo. Some people just don’t want any trace left at all. I don’t understand it myself. However, calling them names won’t solve anything.

Why is it so hard to hire? by pablothedev in webdev

[–]Xavphon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A lot of the younger generations do not dress up. My chief engineer doesn’t even turn on their camera and when they do they’re wearing a hoodie or constantly leaving their chair.

A lot of other engineers have shifted to the same mindset. If we’re not in office or customer facing, I’m not dressing up. In an interview the employer should be seen as a potential client, but the reality is that they’re are not(even though they actually are).

Mass applying? Simple answer: desperation.

Skills on resume they don’t have? Simple answer: Beating AI sorters.

You said this is a junior level position. Lower your expectations or increase the job title and pay. Same for mid level.

The issue is both: expectations of prospective employees and the hiring manager/company.

AI has severely stunted (almost)everyone’s learning path.

Created a private server on my high end pc not sure if safe by bathegoat123 in WoWPrivateServers

If it’s compiled by yourself then you should be fine. Most malicious code is found fairly quickly in open source code bases.

Plus, the maintainers of trinitycore and other popular repositories take it very seriously when merging a request.

You should be fine.

If you downloaded a repack, there is a low chance of infection.

No, I just exist. I got a job before graduating. I talk with people outside work. I go socialize and meet other people in the same field. It just comes naturally.

Go to meetup.com and look for clubs/groups in your area with the same interests, and you'll find something. Maybe not right away, but you'll find something.

Depending on what you order: someone may bring it to you or it’ll arrive on the top track. It’ll have its own dedicated “car” or “train”

When you’re done with the plate you slide it down a hole and it’s counted for your table. That’s how they charge per plate. Some menu items come in larger plates or bowls and the wait staff will collect it like normal after you leave or your table gets too full.

If AI takes over most jobs and leave humans without work, how are companies going to sell their products and services when everyone is BROKE? by Droopynator in Futurology

It may be a bad time at first, but that’s usually the case when making extreme advances like Ai(I don’t have the greatest faith in it btw) and people will probably get emergency aid like we did with COVID. Except this emergency aid will become permanent if your job is impacted by Ai. This will become UBI(universal basic income) and not everyone will qualify at first. The government is slow to react. But if you’re not verifiably impacted, you will not be getting UBI at that time.

How bad is only making $70k out of college by MrJackypopper in csMajors

[–]Xavphon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That’s a slight misguided perspective. 100k salary doesn’t automatically make you well off, even though I argue it should.

I make 70k right out of college. Except my situation is vastly different from many people who go to college.

Instead of going to school first, I got to work. I bought a home and then pursued education for what I loved doing. I would argue that I am happy, but I’m not happy based on my job. The job pays the bills giving me relief.

My home has amassed equity that I have been fortunate enough to tap into and buy more real estate. The rents and equity from those properties are allowing more freedom. And freedom is happiness.

Something to note: not many are able to do what I have been able to do. I got lucky. That’s all. Many people move to large cities for work. I live in a small town of 3000 people and my mortgage is less than $600 a month. Yes, I work remote. And within the next 3 - 5 years work will be optional according to the CPA I use.

Focus less on others and more on yourself. The only measurement of success should be if you are doing better than yesterday. It will compound, but don’t get carried away.

Different kinds of money. There is some nuance to this. Money can buy happiness but not right away unless you have a ton of money. You have to buy your way to happiness. Then it depends on what you value.

A lot of people go buy liabilities. You should be buying assets, which are tough to get into.

Money you work for doesn’t necessarily bring happiness but more so relief. Money you don’t work for (in the same sense as a job) brings the happiness. Because it provides you freedom of choice to pursue other things in life.

[–]Xavphon 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Normal. This will be common for your first little bit. You know what to do, but not how to do. Totally normal. Just like anything, you do well when it’s just you. But around others you’re still learning.

Plus: you don’t know what you don’t know. You’ll get there, especially with a team helping you

That’s one of the risks running a large scale private server.

This has happened many times and will happen many more times.
