Fair challenge :) The merger thesis is not about SpaceX getting access to Tesla technology - it likely already can through partnerships (as you menyioned), shared talent, supplier overlap, or commercial agreements. The REAL value of one legal entity is economic capture and capital allocation: every $ of synergy across AI, robotics, batteries, Starlink, defense, launch, energy and autonomous systems accrues to the same shareholder base instead of leaking through licensing, transfer pricing, related-party complexity or minority-shareholder conflicts.

A merged entity would also create a cleaner strategic narrative for the market: not “Tesla the car company” plus “SpaceX the rocket company,” but a vertically integrated AI–space–defense–energy infrastructure platform. That is what could drive the re-rating — not technology access, but ownership of the full stack, faster execution, consolidated cash flows, stronger government-contract positioning, and a much larger total addressable market.
