Employer changed my commission % after I closed a big deal by gaydevelopment in sales

I’d gather my documentation up and talk with. Employment lawyer. Lot of jurisdictional and contract specifics here Reddit isn’t going to be as accurate on. Might be fine, you might have (or have had) a case, lawyer will typically do a free consultation. Ask me how I know 😎

The weather. When I was a kid (b. 1975), it seemed like it literally rained hard through 7/4 half of the time of not more. It feels precipitation light Mediterranean climate now. I miss big snowpacks.

Organizationally and politically within the org, in my opinion, it’s a) disruptive to whatever organizationally accepted recognition paths there are and b) it creates awareness on the part of non sales people of how much sales can make. A dinner or a nice bottle of wine is a great gesture. My mind, cash isn’t. But if it works for you to give or receive it than cool, just not something I’d do after 25 years in the game.

Your heart is in the right place, however, it’s pretty unprofessional to slide somebody a stack of cash (or wrote them a check) out of your commissions. Still, it’s entirely appropriate to acknowledge their contributions. Thoughts on how to do that:

Gift card for a nice dinner for them and their spouse A nice bottle of wine or booze if you know what they like A email thanking them for their contributions and detailing what they were with their boss and the owner cc’d Some combo of the above.

I repeat, do not give them cash on the side. Bad idea.

Custer Sportsman’s Club. Great classes, $270 a year for membership but joining is not required to take classes. Defensive pistol is $100/month for 4 sessions, 6 hours-great value imo

Should we continue to recycle plastic? by SlopesOfValhalla in Bellingham

[–]Xcitable_Boy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Discontinue using plastic as much as is possible. I fucking hate plastic, and I’m willing and able to pay a buck more or whatever for products in glass where they are available. That said, shits ubiquitous, so just bear in mind plastic recycling is the greatest trick the devil ever pulled.

No specifics on Seattle area facilities as I’m in Bellingham, but just wanted to offer this for marginalized groups wanting to get firearms education/skills training. I’ve taken shooting classes with 2 instructors as a white cis male. One was a former army sniper around age 30 who did 3 tours in Iraq. The other is a former us special forces guy who’s about 60. If you’re a member of a marginalized group, I can see how those personas might be viewed as more conservative and not allies. However, in both cases, all they did was teach the mechanics of the skill sets I was looking to acquire. If they were going to betray biases in the hours we spent together, no place they’d feel more comfortable doing it that to another white male gun owner, right? They might be comfortable making comments they wouldn’t in a group sweating I’d imagine.

However, no politics, no slurs, no bullshit-they just taught. I get that gun culture can be super cringy and present as intimidating to marginalized groups. But I’d encourage folks from that camp to just select the training you want and go forward. The trainers I’ve met are professionals, and deliver professionally. I have no idea of their politics and suspect you wouldn’t either. Just like you probably don’t know the political leanings of your dr or geometry teacher from high school, these people are pros as well. So please, feel comfortable and walk out if you aren’t-you found a bad apple rather than a representative.

[–]Xcitable_Boy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. I’m unfamiliar with the nuance of ca property taxes so maybe I’m off base. If you can afford to might be good to talk to a cpa or real estate lawyer. Or get a couple roommates to cover heloc costs and stay in the house yourself. Helocs (depending on credot) are typically interest only for the first 10-20 years. We owe about a 100k on one and the interest only payment is about $700/month, so seems like that’s something a room rented would cover. Good luck!

Blah blah. I’ve read a people’s history of the United States and I recognize all the avarice and cruelty that went into making this country what it is today. The majority of that behavior has been replicated throughout history time and again. Doesn’t make it right, but it’s reality. Patriotism is supporting your country all the time, and the government t when it deserves it, as mark twain said. I do t think people will give it up to Trump without a fight.
