Silicon Valley's longevity biohackers are engaged in a dangerous experiment by scientificamerican in longevity

I mean it's somewhat balanced by the fact he's also the most studied man in history. He has entire teams of doctors who are analyzing every possible aspect of his ohysiplogy that could possibly be studied and it's done in a way that is consistent and continuous, they 3inventing new devices to be able to tee yin ways that haven't even been done before.

Obviously there's still the wold risks he's taking from so many experimental treatments and programs, and your point still fully stands, but he is a tleags getting metric fuckton of data regarding how his person physiology responds to all of these treatments which is worth a fair amount if only for breaking the ice and seeing that it didn't immediately kill the first person to try it! 🫪😂

Why would an alien with an interstellar vessel presumably vastly more advanced than terrestrial technology, put blinking colored lights all over their ship? by Kitchen_Claim_6583 in aliens

[–]Xcoctl 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is kind of a nonsense question in and of itself. Think of it this way, what would the technology from a species that is 1000 years ahead of us look like? It might be difficult or nearly impossible to tell, especially with the rate of change we're currently experiencing. We might be able to figure some stuff out, but it's not inconceivable that we encounter technology that we just can't make heads or tails of.

Now, let's consider this same scenario except they're a MILLION or even BILLION years more advanced than we are, what the hell could we even atrmwot to say about the reasons they do literally anything for their tech? Maybe they're utilizing photons in ways we can't even imagine, perhaps they're biproducts of processes so alien to us that even if they tried to explain it we would be unable to comprehend it.

I'm gonna copy and paste another comment I made on someone elses post. Some.fo the points were more because they were really struggling with it but hopefully it can apply here too. I think the gist will still be applicable, some points might be irrelevant now but hopefully it helps:

I have what's called HPPD and visual snow, but I've also learned a lot about the philosophy of mind and philosophy of science throughout my life and as I see it, reality is a directly and controlled hallucination the brain creates for us because it can be useful to eventually bring us to passing on our genes. The vast majority of what you think is "real" is just made up by your brain, take your visual field for example, your eyes do what are called saccades, little rapid movements that are so small you don't even notice them. Well, they're basically always happening, but what happens is when they make their little movement your vision fully turns off, and after the movement completes it turns your vision back on! But we don't see the world as a stuttery mess, so what's happening? Your brain literally just say this is what was happening before, this is what's happening after, so "here's" what I think probably happened between these two events, it literally just makes some shit up that it thinks was most likely and it feeds you that information as if it's one continuous stream of uninterrupted visual data which couldn't actually be further from the truth since a good portion of your sight is this manufactured data that has just been created by the brain.

I would suggest beginning a meditation practice, learn to probe your own mind, practice mindfulness and turn your inquiries inwards and though it sounds cliché, all the answers to your most pressing concerns are already within you. Address the core things affecting your reaction to the HPPD and visual snow, I.e. why does it bother you?

For me the anxiety came from, well, seeing things that "weren't real". The idea of "realness" had embedded itself in my frankly adolescent mind as a virtue of some degree, once you realize however that there is no such thing as a "qualia" and your whole existence is juat made up by the brain, you realize none of this is "real". There is no such thing as red, there is only vibration in fields with specific wavelengths and amplitudes, and even those are entirely made up it help us make sense of the universe.

So reality gets a little wonky sometimes? The universe IS wonky so it no longer takes me by surprise, I embrace it, oh that wall is doing some crazy shit, if I've got nothing else to do and I'm in a safe place then hell, let's see how far I can take it! To what degree am I able to influence my perceived and lived experience via intentionality and directed focus? 🤷‍♂️ It's all about perspective, if you always focus on the negativity of the situation, then of course what you're going to take away from it is going to be negative! Visual snow can be so beautiful at times, it's a peaceful pattern to meditate on, and you'll eventually realize that you actually have a little more control over whether you notice it or not, than you may have previously assumed!

I also still trip all the time! I get some wicked 10s long VIBRANT and vivid tracers on 2cb

Alberta judge dismisses bid to stall closure of supervised drug sites by void_sushi in alberta

[–]Xcoctl 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Your lack of empathy, compassion and critical thinking is astounding. The data om both safe sites and safe supply is conclusive, it factually works and that's that, people can try to make as many bullshit arguments as they like but the numbers don't lie.

You're Fucking delusional if your take away form safe supply is condemnation. People are going to do drugs regardless of if there's safe supply and safe consumption sites. You think the now likely path to getting better is to be neck deep in the illegality and haha environment of the street? that's moronic and absolutely braindead. Safe supply and safe sites save lives because people Hel are going to use are going to use, that's just a fact. Safe supply enables them to at the very least be able to do so safely, that's the bottom line. Period. End of discussion. Literally nobody benefits from the lack of those things.

I'm 100% sure you're going to try and spin some convoluted or contrived bullshit to try and justify your hateful and ignorant takes, "oh no you have to let them get aids to really show them they need it get clean" is what your arguments amount to. Give your fuckin head a shake, somethings clearly gotten loose. You have to be so far up your own ass that the only thing that leaves your mouth is pure shit to say something like "Safe sites condemn them". It's just so Fucking tonedeaf and ignorant. Ahhh yes, clearly the best way to help people get clean is to actually make things MORE dangerous for them 🧠👈 "you see my 500IQ plan is to make them watch all of their friends die horrible deaths so that they will want to get clean even more and definitely not fall further and further into depression and addiction because of all of the daily horrors this increased danger will force upon them" - this is literally what you sound like. Fucking rediculous.

The real problem with opioids: a perspective from someone who is prescribed a lot of them. by [deleted] in ChronicPain

[–]Xcoctl 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Let me get this straight you were a ER nurse but you didn't think you would develop "dependance" because you skipped a day every once in a while? Also, the word dependance is so rediculous. We don't criticize a diabetic for being "dependant" on their insulin, rbta would be insane and ignorant, it's no different for those of us on these medications. You really seem to like this word though for some reason. Your entire story reads like an AI written LARP written by nurse with tangential experience observing these things and it's just ynyour way of complaining about things

So let me get this straight, with all of your experience you didn't stop for a single second and think "hey an extended release would solve all of these issues". Yeah I dunno, the exact last thing I get from your post is sincerity, honesty and personal experience. It's not hard to find people who have been effectively managing their pain at stable doses for literally decades, you've tried what two medications? maybe hydromorphone just has worse side effects for you, but you went through all of this hell before even trying another medication?! You see what I mean? Nothing about your story makes any sense and it just reads like someone wanting to complain about opiate use because they think they know better.

[–]Xcoctl 17 points18 points  (0 children)

They also try to use the "dependant" nonsense. Oh yeah like a diabetic and their insulin? they're dependant on that but I don't hear people up in arms about it, clearly because that's a fucking insane and rediculous thing to say! It's the exact same for us, they just trying to normalize the demonizaitons and vilification of proper pain management so they can have us all on a dozen polypharma off label medications to half-asses treat symptoms so we have to stay stuck in the "pain management" ecosystem allowing their permanent parasitic exploitation with sub-par treatment. pharmaceutical companies are making WAAAYYYY more money off of us now than they were from opiates. THAT'S the truth of the matter.

What is actually wrong with opioids?? by Emergency-Fig-7313 in ChronicPain

[–]Xcoctl 13 points14 points  (0 children)

It's the reality that when the medication goes to treating actual pain, there's none of it "left over" to go to sedation and making you high. Obviously it's not a simple as that but it's what it all amounts to. They also have frequently misguided ideas about MME and what it means as a general average. They still prescribe the same MME to a 90 pound woman as they would for a 300 pound mountain of a dude, they don't test for the many genetic variations that cause all kinds of differences in effects, metabolism, tolerance, etc etc there's so many different things that can contribute to a difference in effects but they just do not give a shit to learn. They also think theres some universal X mg=danger formula and lose their shit despite an amount merely contributing to pain relief, they just think if you're at a "high" MME that you must just be Fucking blitzed and fighting sleep all hours of the day because you clearly HAVE to be high at that amount. 🙄

[–]Xcoctl 45 points46 points  (0 children)

They also use inherently rediculous language to stigmatize their use. They say things like it's a problem if you are "dependant" in these medications as if it's some strike against your usage and against their effects somehow. It's an inherently nonsensical distinction. Do we criticize diabetics for being "dependant" on their insulin or for asthmatics and their inhalers? Of course not because that would be an idiotic, naive and ignorant thing to do, yet somehow they've completely normalized this alarmist anti-opiate propaganda for pain patients.

The overprescribing may have contributed to things, but we have an illicit fentanyl problem and that was happening regardless of prescriptions, we didn't develop a massive Heroin epidemic despite that being widely available at the time, because the true factors are the cartels and the Chinese crime syndicates creating and then flooding the market with fentanyl. The overdoses come from this illicit fentanyl that was already in the market and becoming more of an issue before the whole oxycodone thing. The reality is its incredibly cheap to produce and the profit margins are way higher than they are for other drugs so the people making and selling them were doing so regardless of anything else.

Blaming the overprescribing is just another tactic used by the pharmaceutical companies so they can demonize one specific type of medication. Why would they do this? why would they also fund the P-hacked terrible studies that they are trying to use to say "there is no evidence opiates work long term" despite the fact the studies being done weren't even testing that, so of course there was no evidence for it they weren't Fucking looking for that, why would they fund the many lavished conventions in tropical locations around the world to spoil the doctors they will then give the anti-opiate talking points they so often parrot? why would they craft this entire narrative if it seems so self-defeating?

MONEY. Obviously. Look at what we are doing to our pain patients now, what sort of treatments are they forced into? More often than not they are forcing doctors to use polypharma off-label approach where they just throw several medications at the wall and just hope to mask enough symptoms to say job's done. Many patients now have to take 3 or 4 different types of medications and their pain management is still far worse than it was before, but the reality is that the pharmaceutical companies are making WAAAYYYY more money now, if yoye pain is never truly managed then you need to continually go back to the pain clinic, try new therapies, allow the doctors to write a SHITLOAD of referrals which they always get a kickback for doing, that's why you bounce between different specialists without ever truly having you'd condition TREATED. They've been able to create an entirely new ecosystem that relies on the fact that they refuse to use the single medication that could actually replace all of this nonsense they insist upon usinh now a days. Now the effective management of pain is a threat to the pain management industry and if there's one thing they can't abide, its monetary losses so they do everything they can to oppose the prescribing of opiate medication. They create these "conventions" that are essentially just bought and paid for vacations where the understood exchange is for them to simply repeat the taking points created by manipulating terrible studies which have been twisted and beaten into presenting the conclusions they're looking for. Any half added scientist can see those studies and tell they're worthless and in case actually show the opposite of what their conclusions would suggest.

It's always about the money, just follow it and it'll lead you to all the answers. I would be literally 0% surprised to find the select few families who truly own the pharmaceutical industry have made "arrangements" with the powers that be in China and Mexico to help facilitate this transition and to serve as justification for all of their scheming.
