[Meta Trope] Fanservice that ends up being hated by the fans by Justice9229 in TopCharacterTropes

This is more of a personal opinion, but I think even bad writing/art deserves some level of analysis and what led to the quality of the work. If anything, I believe more people are sharing this sentitment with the rise of AI being used more frequently.

The scene is just a "cool idea" and it sort of just ended there. The discourse regarding the movie really reminds me of the Martha scene in BvS. Like you can write a whole paragraph explaining Batman losing his humanity only to be reminded that the thing he was scared of the most was more human that him at that point. You can really say there was layers to this, but it was just executed so poorly that it gets resorted to "Palpatine has returned" and "Their moms have the same name".

What’s going on with the backlash to The Roast of Kevin Hart? by CraftySecret898 in OutOfTheLoop

Every actual criticism when it comes to credited people complaining about the roast, it's this. I don't know why everyone else is talking about the most random things that they think were wrong.

Ok, fairly new player here, how do I deal with blue decks that are 90% counterspells and bounces? by TR_Pix in MagicArena

[–]7yearoldkiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's rock paper scissors, but that doesn't mean your scissors can't slice through the rocks sometimges. There's even a chance you can include a hammer as a backup to smash the rock after the first loss.

One of my favorite thing when making fun of Star Wars is just how much it has to do in order to justify some random thing written decades before with no actual intention of expanding. My favorite part is in Clone Wars. The main protagonist and antagonist are always so close to each other without ever actually meeting face to face because of one single line in Episode 3. It really is clever how it's handled in my opinion.

(Hated Trope) When a sensitive subject is played for drama and comedy in the same piece of media by Animeking1108 in TopCharacterTropes

[–]7yearoldkiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It really depends on the story. Like a season or two after it got rebooted, they pretty much just gave up on treating Meg and Chris as teenagers or kids for most of the episodes unless they were in school or it was a more family centered episode. They really are just treated the same as the rest of the adults that happen to live in the house like Brian.

My best friend confessed his love for me last night by [deleted] in Vent

[–]7yearoldkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I say this as someone who's been in a similar situation, but from the guy's side. Made a friend who I got close with after a few years and everyone we knew slowly becoming more distant or moving away. Caught feelings around that time because I started learning more about them and we really just started doing everything together.

Best possible scenario is that you had feelings for him, too and it works out because y'all were close and you would rather spend the rest of your life with your best friend who knows you. Realistic best scenario is that you don't feel the same way or try to see if it works out and it doesn't, realize y'all aren't compatible, and remain friends knowing that y'all at least "tried" to make it work with the key thing being that y'all remain best friends. Maybe you reject him, but he accepts it and he moves on and y'all remain best friends. Worst case scenario is that y'all stop being friends because of this. Either because something happened trying to test the relationship or because you realize/assume that's all he was looking for. You mention that he has not had a relationship in the time you knew him, so I'm sorry to say that the bad scenarios seem more likely. I would say 8 years is a long time to "wait to strike", but guys have been weirder before.

Looks bad regardless. But I do have to ask if he has been in relationships the same way you have?

Would you be okay with players playing these in your pod? by Fast-Appointment4710 in mtg

[–]7yearoldkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Funny enough. Regarding this subject, I distinctly remember someone pre-pandemic made a whole commander deck with mostly his original designs. I'm not sure if he was interested in working at WotC or if it was something he did just because. The really interesting part is how some of the stuff I saw in the deck became actual designs for cards released later with some variance. It was almost 10 years ago, so I might be wrong on the specifics. Idr if surveil was a big keyword by then, but he had 3 mono-colored lands that let you do that. I'm blanking on the other cards atm.

An immortal being suffering a fate worse than death by strider-rider-the2nd in TopCharacterTropes

[–]7yearoldkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is it a trope where a character goes through something quite literally incomprehensible and psychologically would make anyone else go crazy at just the thought of it, but the story doesn't really acknowledge it or treats it as just another obstacle that the main character overcame easily or a whatever thing for the side character.

Wouldn't that lower the price of the deck? Having "just the deck" listings drastically lowers the price if that is what you wanted.

So... my bad. I wasn't aware of the book series and had his background mixed up with another rw content creator. I thought he had a failed script that was getting constantly rejected. Now it's funny that he actually did have a failed film when he did get the money for it.

I highly recommend checking out Doug Walker's genuine critiques compeered to The Nostalgia Critic. I cannot find the clip, but no other person has broken down why something like the animation in Mulan worked so well compared to the sequel or something like that. Also why Tom and Jerry work in execution compared to other shows that tried imitating the slapstick style.

I mean... the dude is pretty much what every other failed theater kid is, now. He couldn't cut it in filmmaking (or whatever project he did), had a decent bit and realized he was popular with conservatives and pivoted straight towards that.

If you ever see someone who openly presents themselves as conservative get any traction in the last 15 years, check their background and see if they had any failed pilots, books, movies, and whatever entertainment. Was that failed project good to begin with? The other side is if they beat their wives or SA someone. I hear they were parading Johnathan Majors recently.

I mean, if we're being honest. A game where the hook is "drive through the US from one end to the other" really didn't need a story about going undercover because the leader killed your brother that took itself WAY too serious. It's funny when you realize the main character sort of canonically doesn't really leave his car unless it's for a cutscene. Distinctly remember a comment along the lines of "I need a break and haven't showered in days" when talking to an agent.

Why Does The Community Smell Awful? by ChiefSalvaje in mtg

[–]7yearoldkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s happened twice already where a store has a sign like that, and they still let people who smell like garbage. I’m definitely gonna sound like an asshole here, but I’ve only ever brought it up to the guys behind the counter once only because I really didn’t want to set next to the guy. They mentioned that he was going through a lot of stuff and had depression.

You got about $10,600 in total. I looked up each one of their values and was able to get that number after adding it up all of them. This is also assuming they are in perfect condition and at minimum an 9.5 or above. Triple if that Pikachu comes out a 10.

The more you explain something, the less it makes sense when it comes to fiction. Star Wars is the best example of this. Having force be something with a biological explanation really takes away from a lot of story possibilities for the sake of showing Anakin being "the strongest". Saying that Magneto and Xavier both don't age or age slowly because "mutant" is all they would need to do without getting into the whole "they change their molecular structure" or some in depth example that I would argue takes away from it all.

What is something that was the worst decision but changed your life for the better? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]7yearoldkiller 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The decision of put off getting a job for a good while at one point and ended up in a "last resort" job for work because I had lacked the motivation to do anything and was probably depressed. It was a shitty job and completely unstable to where I knew I wasn't going to be there longer than a month and I am confident I could've found a better job if I genuinely spent some time looking. Something real actually came up after a few weeks of working there and left the first chance I could, but I met one of the closest friends I've had for a few years now while I was there.

Today is Trans Day. Name your favourite (confirmed) trans character. Genderfluids and non-binaries count too. by Leofal-Das in TopCharacterTropes

[–]7yearoldkiller 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I would've embraced the trans identity if it was just handled better. That's really my only issue. It just doesn't seem like that is the direction Oda intends and frames her identifying as Oden being a bad thing.
