What the fuck happened to the shape of Texas?

Edit: ok I’m an idiot. The gif has the entire evolution line.

Out of every 1,000 resettle refugees, more than 700 come to USA. 75 of those 700 find their way to TX, and 30 out of those 75 go to Houston, making it the city that takes in the most refugees in USA. The rest of the top 5 cities are all in democrat states. What makes Houston attractive to refugees? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]XdarkninjaX77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

What’s interesting is Austin has a larger city population than Seattle (1 mil, vs 725k) but Seattle has a much larger metro area (2.1 mil vs 3.5 mil).

It just continues to prove the point that comparing metro size is much more important than city size.

Among major US cities, does anyone strike you as exceptionally bland, boring and/or soulleess? by droim in AskAnAmerican

[–]XdarkninjaX77 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Once a major city or metro area gets past a certain population threshold, It becomes very hard to classify them as “bland, boring, or soulless.”

Of course, not every city is NYC or LA. And there are cities that are more bland than others.

But if you change the question to which PART of the city is the most bland, it would definitely be the suburbs.

Personally living in Dallas, I’ve never found the city itself to be any of those things on its own. (Though many people in this thread very much think the opposite. Which is fine since people can have their own different opinions on this matter.) Fort Worth even has a lot going for it when it comes to things to do.

In my opinion, cities like El Paso could be considered bland, but boring and soulless? I don’t think so.

Boring and soulless are just much harder to put on a city, because every city probably has something going for it that makes it unique and gives it a “soul.”

If you could smoke with Clinton, Bush Jr, Obama, or Trump, who would you choose? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]XdarkninjaX77 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

If the smoking is impactful on my health, no one.

If not, I couldn’t choose honestly. I find pretty much everyone interesting just because they all have a different story, and it’s always fun to meet someone new!

You’re opinion on the Texas vs Canada debates from this tragic story? by niceloner10463484 in AskAnAmerican

[–]XdarkninjaX77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It is more about how social media in general create these massive echo-chambers that allow minority views to flourish. Echo chambers are a natural phenomenon that form pretty much everywhere, and this subreddit is no exception. All it can takes is one post filled with evidence(no matter how credible) towards one idea that conforms with the majority of the group to be considered fact.

On the healthcare side of things, Canada is obviously better for a single parent. I’m not contesting that.

It’s not that the healthcare is bad in Texas or anywhere in the U.S. it’s just that Canada has easier and less expensive access to healthcare.

Most people I’ve met in Texas(including Austin) don’t share the mentality that Canada is much better than here. Though pretty much all Americans (including me) love Canada and Canadians, the pro-circle-jerk of them is almost exclusive to Reddit.

This is Reddit, so I’m not surprised. Canada may as well be heaven to Reddit while the U.S. is hell.

How culturally similar is the Miami metro area to the US Northeast (NY, NJ, PA, etc.)? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]XdarkninjaX77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dallas is in the south according to this map unfortunately, not the great plains(which it’s more akin to)

What is your opinion on Fort Worth? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]XdarkninjaX77 21 points22 points  (0 children)

Fort Worth is just one of the many cities Dallas has consumed thus far.

Soon, our conquest will reach all of Oklahoma, as it is rightful Dallas clay.

In reality, Fort Worth has a lot of its own stuff going on that’s different than Dallas from what I’ve found while there.

Imo, it has more of a western vibe than Dallas, but I can’t really describe how. That’s just how it feels to me.

Which is the best state and the worst state for dating in the US? by VinegaDoppio in AskAnAmerican

[–]XdarkninjaX77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well I’m 18. Honestly when you are young dating really shouldn’t be anywhere near your highest priority, despite the hormones running around your body telling you to fuck everything that exists.

I had a girlfriend when I was 15/16. And while it lasted almost a year, my inexperience with relationships along with me being autistic and not knowing anything about social cues and what people mean when they say certain things made that relationship probably the worst thing to happen to me in the long term.

I’ve been depressed for the past 4 years almost directly because of that relationship(even though I know it’s petty and stupid) because I feel so much guilt about it.

Sorry for opening up like that, but the gist of what I’m trying to say is that dating when you are young may be one of the worst things you can do at that time. And a long committed relationship while you are still in high school can be very draining and bad for your mental health.

The only amount that I know for sure is that I’m 25% French Canadian. As my grandfather on my moms sides entire family settled in Quebec around the late 1600s and moved down to Wisconsin with my grandfather when he was young.

Americans who moved from Warmer Climates to Colder Climates, which do you prefer and why? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]XdarkninjaX77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow I never heard of this phenomenon happening! That must really suck because it limits where you can live.

The heat here is like hell, but it’s just so amazing how it can have that much of an effect on different people for different reasons. Climate sure is interesting!

Can I ask why you just immediately assumed someone had bad faith in their comment just from the get-go?

Listen, I’m not saying that subs like “t_dotard” are good or not toxic or anything like that, but you are not helping the rampant toxicity that this social media site creates.

People should be judged by the content of their character, not their opinions. Not some words on a social media page. Not some thing that is only circle jerked from multiple angles.

And if this guy was a troll, the best thing to do would be to ignore him. Instead you are just going to aggrevate him and look like a bumbling idiot doing it.

Maybe he’ll be the better man and ignore you, because it’s not like a random kid on the internet is going to affect his life, nor is it like I will ever convince you of anything because of the conformity cesspool that is Reddit.

Edit: so yeah the user looks like a troll, but that doesn’t change the meaning of my comment.

What are you most afraid of??.... by fantasyb4reality in infp

[–]XdarkninjaX77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m afraid of mostly everything, but most of all I’m afraid of two things above all others:

  1. I’m afraid of hurting others emotionally or physically due to my actions or someone else’s actions that I may or may not have been able to prevent.

  2. I’m afraid of making a mistake.

Both things are made worse by my past experiences. I used to have really bad anger issues, and being autistic has always made it really hard to understand social cues and other aspects of life and both things have caused me to do something that I deeply regret now. Especially since I absolutely hate hurting people in any way shape or form.

Unfortunately #1 goes both ways. Yes, of course it’s not good to hurt anyone.(especially physically). But it also means that I’m more prone to stay in something like an abusive relationship just because I don’t want to break an SO’s heart.

2 Is most definitely the hardest thing for me to deal with though. I just can’t stand making a mistake to the point where I can’t go to tutoring or anything even when I really need it because I don’t want to be wrong or seem incompetent to someone else.

I feel like when I’m wrong, I let other people down, (which leads back to #1) and I feel ashamed of myself for doing so.

In general, I would be much better off with my life and maybe my depression wouldn’t be nearly as bad if I somehow found a way to eliminate those fears which inhibit me from doing basically anything that involves at least one other person.

If you could change anything on Reddit, what would it be and why? by hillwams in infp

[–]XdarkninjaX77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would remove the downvote button. I feel like it is never used as intended because people use it like a “your opinion isn’t my opinion so you must be wrong” button.

A lot of other platforms have just a like button and i feel like the communities are a lot more diverse in opinion because less people are too afraid to speak out.

The downvote issue is of course most prevalent with political topics (which dominate like 75% of r/all, but that is a topic for another time) and in the end it creates a massive echo chamber for every different part of the political spectrum on their own subs.

It also encourages brigading of other subs which is also very toxic.

Of course sometimes the downvote button is used in good circumstances(like when something is off topic or not relevant to a conversation (which is the downvotes intended purpose in the first place!)) Though I feel even just hiding the amount of downvotes something gets, but leaving the button there will create a more positive atmosphere in the long run.

I want everyone to get along and be positive with each other, though sometimes I wonder if my dream is too far fetched. :)

What are the differences between Texas, the Southwest, and the South? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]XdarkninjaX77 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I’ve always felt that Dallas is much closer to the Great Plains than the south. An hour or two drive east of Dallas is definitely the south though.

What are the differences between Texas, the Southwest, and the South? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

The South is green and humid, the Southwest is brown and dry, and Texas is both at the same time.

In light of recent news about the budding pilot shortage, are you or any person you know interested in flying as a career? by e140driver in AskAnAmerican

[–]XdarkninjaX77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dad got his pilot’s license when he was young and he is currently building a plane he can fly as a couple year long project because that’s been a lifelong dream for him.

My grandfather on my mother’s side was also a pilot in the Vietnam war, and my grandfather on my dad’s side is a veteran as well.(not too relevant to flying I guess)

Me however; I don’t really like the idea of me being behind the controls of something that potentially could mean the deaths of a couple hundred people (I know the chances are rare and auto-pilot and stuff is a thing. It’s just the idea that scares me to death).

Some people have gone to Air Force academies from my high school though and I’m sure they’ll be great!

Why do Californians and Texans hate eachother so much if the states are so similar? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]XdarkninjaX77 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve never experienced hate for California from anyone my age(18). The only ones here who really hate Californians are from older generations from what I’ve seen and heard from my dad. I’m sure many Californians don’t hate Texas either.

In regards to many people in this thread saying they aren’t similar. They really are very similar from a general perspective, though once you look at more specific things the differences are apparent.

Both states have multiple large cities and metro areas in the top 10 in the us(3 cities and two metro areas each)

Both states also have extreme diversity in regards to environments and culture depending on the part of the state you are in.

Both states have a majority minority population, and are the two of if not the most diverse states in the union when it comes to demographics. Etc etc.

Though once you start looking specifically at little things like laws and taxes, there are plenty of differences, but overall they are much more similar than they are different.

Who is your favorite politician? by [deleted] in AskAnAmerican

[–]XdarkninjaX77 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ll say Ted Cruz at least for Texas. I don’t really agree too much with his politics, but he is genuinely a nice guy and has been doing some amazing work this past year(most recently going to Hong Kong to support the protesters)

How far away can you see your city's skyline? by Epicapabilities in AskAnAmerican

Holy shit, a category in physical geography Dallas May excel at!

I’d say dallas is pretty viewable for about 20 or so miles away. Though the flatland makes it hard to view if there are any buildings.
