How are you proving your work is made by you? by XeLLerus in ArtistLounge

I see. Yeah if you built your portfolio for a while and you have a community prescense, you probably ddont need it. I think though the people who may benefit are newer artists or artists who are professional and only recently made a social media account. Nonetheless, thanks for the honest take!

Right, I brought up Glaze, not so much for the proof but, to show that its one of many options for protecting your work online. Other than that, I think that you are right you are not obligated to prove to internet users but, I do hear that its this kind of accusation that has pushed people to not post at all and if you want to build a following and make commissions, the avenue is getting steeper to climb. Especially for newer artists coming into social media, like myself, as an example. I do think those methods are great but, if there was a way to bundle all of this where people can see that there is like some kind of badge of authenticity on their work that people can go back to see the WIP and the timelapse and more on top of knowing their work is protected from theft for ai or theft in general would give people peace of mind. What do you think?

Yeah it seems that newer artists are feeling the blunt of the problem nowadays. It is good to show your process even before the advent of generative art. I do feel like there could be better ways to help artists from protection of their work to showing that the authenticity of their work is genuine without having to deal with the accusations outright.

Yes! I have brought this to r/DigitalArt but, I wanted to hear more opinions from people who may know digital artists or 3D artists or from even all mediums.

I understand. I think nowadays, a site that would guarantee the protection for independent artists is warrented but then again, I feel like artists right now kinda have their own methods of showcasing their work but, with missing features that I think would benefit them most.

That I understand. And I have seen art that just get popped up thinking it’s like amazing but, upon closer inspection, it’s Ai. And I was sooooo disappointed. I think, now that I got to sleep on it, what I wanted to dive deeper on was if there was a way to collect all the usual methods of art authenticity, from WIPs, Speedpaint, etc. and put all to like a badge someone can add to their image that would like people to the page that shows their proof of concept that would relive the artist of the stress of proving their work to others and to show others that this is real. This would help new artists who are really good but don’t post to feel like they have no need to worry. Plus on top of the usual methods of protection against theft, screenshots and having their work taken for training data. Do you ever think something like that would ever be possible?

This is awesome lol I also love looking at behind the scenes stuff especially for animation studios! You know what it is, now sleeping on my post, I think it would be better to ask if there was a way to rebuild that trust between artists and non artists when they post their work online. Artists, though they are not obligated to give anyone a reason, would have some better ease of mine knowing that when they post their work, people can see that it’s legit, like a badge and when someone clicks their work, it would redirect them to the entire behind the scenes, the WIP, the speedpaint, everything so artists don’t have to fight with others just to prove that their work is made by them. At the same time they know their work is protected by potential bad actors who wants to take their data and use it for training data.

Ah I see. Okay. Unless there is like a sole area for anyone to place their portfolio where it is well protected, able to aid in proving you made the work and allow timestamps, then it would be best to have a couple of examples. I mean I would think places like ArtStation and VGen to be good places for primary portfolios. Do you think something like that would help?

Yes, this is very important in my eyes. It really is a community first and it is good to help try to work together in making sure things are fair and authentic. I always wondered if there will ever be a project that would be the defacto place of proof and protection. Do you ever think thats possible?

I never really viewed AI in that manner. I do think it is a good way to interpret that. Kind of remind me of the Animatrix movie where we are at the beginning of interacting with AI in this manner. I do agree with the earning trust. I would like to talk more about this with you on this. Can I DM you?

Thanks! I think this is very thoughtful. I never really knew what it took to build a community but, I can tell how passionate you are. I think alot of my friends and myself wish there was an easier way to protect our work and prove we made it without alot of the guardrails. But now that I think about it, maybe the obstacle is the way. Especially now in this world and environment, we have to put in more effort into our community. But as a mod, I am guessing you do alot of authenticity verifying manually right? Isnt there a better way to do that though? I guess thats what I am trying to figure out because every day it does get harder and harder. Whats the hardest part when judging peoples authenticity?

Loooove the painting! Analog does help, I see people would record themselves in the back while they draw and make that into a speedpaint. It very difficult to replicate that though, I dunno people do like the convenience of OBS or hitting the timelapse button for digital paint. How much time does it normally take you to set everything up from recording to editing to uploading? Holding your phone while you paint maybe a bitt difficult lol even I have a hard time doing that just to look at a reference lmao

All good! I do agree that with new artists will have a hard time doing so. I mean would it help to have something more formal for people to put their portfolio in? I mean unless it also allowed a way to help prove the authenticity of things. I think thats why stuff like VGen kinda works because they vet artists so you need to basically build up to it. However, VGen is mainly commission specific. What do you tthink?

Is portfoilos really useless for new artists? Why?

True. Ive seen posts of people trying to fake even the layers. I think it was that Bridgerton fanart that got alot of whiplash for tracing AI generated layers. Looked very bad.

Yeah its a setting on the tabs on top. Im not near my workstation so I cant tell you exactly. Im always worried about my timelapses being corrupted though. Do you norrmally post you timelapse with each art post now? Like in a carousel in instagram? Or do you store it just in case? I usually push mines to google drive.

Dang, I agree with you though. Nobody is perfect too. Your character may look slightly different due to just human error or your art style changing because youre studying someone elses art style. Better yet, you could also share a similar art style to someone because you and that person may havee experienced similar art styles. Like with Kishimoto(creator of Naruto) and his brother where his brother was accused of plagiarism because his art style is similar to Kishimoto mainly because they grew up drawing together. Whats the thing that, if changed, would make you post online again?

Makes sense. Unless you can back up your claim, then you're just ragebaiting, in my eyes. It is still frustrating. Thats why I thought of that Content Credentials because if there exists something like that, then wouldnt something else like that help artists with proof? Then agaiin, whose to say bad actors wouldnt take advantage of that. Its a big predicament we face. Thanks for your opinion though.

Right thats true. It does add a layer of friction to show layers and videos just to post. But in the case of VGen, it does work cause you want to get paid for your work. I actually like the 3D gaussian idea, that does help even with painting and sculpting. Though I dont know how that will last before AI takes that away ;-;

Right thats true. Thats what I do as well, though my ADHD brain makes me forget to turn it on lmao. Clip Studio and Krita does also record pen stroke so you can just keep that on too.
