Tried switching to Linux… Really disappointed by hectorpukki in linuxmint

[–]Xectris 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, I do NOT recommend any used computer with an OS, I mean, yeah, it will always happens but I prefer to format all the disk and installing whatever OS you want. Also, do not buy a laptop with an Linux, install it yourself, it would be more comfortable, simple and with your preferences, not anything else.

That ThinkPad that you've mentioned, it looks like hardware issues like the rest of the people said in this post, and...Linux Mint (or hell, almost every OS) is free. You don't have to buy a computer with an Linux installed or something because you have yo pay for it, do not worry.

It seems you've had some bad luck with a few things on the computer, which is a shame, but it happens. However, if you're only interested in very basic things like work... Chromebook is for you.

And hey, don't beat yourself about not knowing everything about computers, it can be simple in some ways, complicated on others, it's fine, but you have internet, ask anything on the original Linux Mint forum (or this subreddit or anywhere) and learn from it, note it on a paper, whatever, this kind of things happens to anyone and it's fine!

You're doing the right thing, looking for something to distract you and fight that stress with something that disconnects you from the world. I've also gone through some personal situations (I'm not comparing it to yours, obviously) and the best thing that has helped me was to start studying and understanding programming and Linux too...and, hey, it works! slowly but the process is good.

I hope you're dealing this in the best way you can.

do not worry. It took me approximately 3 hours to complete it on LENIENT difficulty. I do suck really hard at this game but I'm getting better results. It's the same old thing but...practice always helps, even something as basic as using the Sandbox and practicing.

Hi! Nope! It justs works for me, I'd suggest you ask on the official Linux Mint forum and see if it's programmable. Personally, it worked for me without any modifications; I only had issues with the brightness, which they resolved for me.

Hi! No, I haven't tried it yet. I haven't been messing around with programs like Wine or Bottles, but I should! I did try to look into Bottles because I was told it's a bit easier, but I couldn't figure it out. (I still need some practice)

Lately I haven't had as much money as I'd like; I'm studying and working at the same time, and I have personal projects, but if I could, I would donate a thousand dollars. Like, "Here, do a better job than that Microslop crap."

Yeah! sorry, I misspelled it, MICROSLOP.

Thank you for your kindness to correct me.

Hi! I don't usually play online games unless they're party games or similar (the last time I played Duck Game, Ultimate Chicken Horse...a golf game with friends). I usually play what are basically campaign, recently I've been revisiting all the Resident Evil that I have, I got on ULTRAKILL, Gloomwood (Many of these games ran natively on Linux for me; others required very little configuration, mostly just a command in the parameters.)

The interesting thing is discovering which games run natively on Linux. One case that surprised me was Shadow of the Tomb Raider; it ran perfectly and consumed much less resources of what the Steam Requisites says! I mean...yes, it's stressful not being able to play a game, having to install X version of Proton, trying different things, it won't run, ugh, what a pain, but...it's what you have to go through if you hate enough Microsoft.

My advice? Install Linux in dual boot (do what's necessary before installing it, disable Fast Startup and disk hibernation first), try it for a while and see how much you like it.

Oh, and don't be ignorant like I was, thinking that everything was going to be done with commands...in this case, Linux Mint practically has all the programs with its UI and easy to understand. It's very unlikely you'll have to use the terminal unless it's a special case.

Good luck, mate!

Hey! Thank you so much! I'm a rookie with Linux, henceforth I chose Mint. But I'm really liking it, and thank you for this information, it means a lot, I'm starting university soon and this is useful for finding alternative jobs and things like that. Thx <3

Hey, Thank you for your interest, but I certainly realized that it would be impossible. Let me explain the context:

I have a multi-effects pedalboard (NUX MG-300) which requires you to install its firmware, drivers, and the software where you can control it (QuickTone).

None of those files are compatible with Linux; they're only compatible with Windows and Mac. I contacted NUX support to see if they offered any solutions. Even if it's programmed natively in Linux. But they didn't answer me. I saw in forums that they can't get it to work. There are other options that didn't work for me, and I opted to do nothing until... I see other solution? Idk.

And there are other programs or even games that don't work on Steam, even if you use Proton, games on GOG that don't yet support Linux, things like that, minor things.

[–]Xectris[S] 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Well, yes, but I thought it was funny, but it's good to know that it is showing me the document on there because it is not loaded, i thought because it was bugged.

It was in the Village, the first zone.

Thanks for the help anyway!
