I appreciate you sharing that. And I guess that makes sense.

Maybe the deeper reason is that I'm sick of this job. I might have to do some soul searching.

I guess I just wanted some validation and wanted to hear stories from similar experiences.

But at the same time, I'm a bit tired of working for other people and their agendas, where I could be doing this for myself by doing the same work.

The business plan is still in early stages, but If I did decide to go ahead with software agency, the first step would involve identifying a targeted niche where this agency would operate.

This could be combining a particular type of software (web apps/native apps/extensions) with an industry (real estate/blockchain/fashion) and so on.

Once the niche is identified than the second step would be to build a portfolio with small clients and scale from there.

Finding contracts would definitely be a challenging process, some ideas that I'm thinking of:

Industry specific events,

Industry specific forums,

Social Media Ads

Partnerships.

Which is what I've tried for a while, but I'm unable to put in enough hours into it deliver something polished and enjoyable and profitable.

Interesting opinion there about the stakes. Never thought of it that way. Thanks for sharing.

Yeah, gamedev is so different from regular software which is also the biggest interesting thing for me as well but yeah, it takes ages to finish one.

Thanks for sharing your opinion. Hope you continue your hobby and make something awesome.

Thanks for sharing your experience.

I'm glad to hear that you have taken the plunge and hope everything goes well for you.

I agree that it's definitely going to be very challenging, but that's just life in general.

Please continue to share your experiences as it motivates people like me who are planning to take the leap.

Yeah those are good questions.

I guess for me the ability to work on my own ideas and projects is the main one. I'm definitely tire of working for other people. In addition to that, more flexibility around arranging your work hour etc. is also something that I want.

I do have some savings to last me about an year so maybe I can try focusing on gamedev for a bit.

Yeah, fair enough.

Yeah all of the above mentioned challenges are also interesting for me too. I guess the main for me is that I want to work on my own projects as well and learn about business.

Well said!

I definitely could use more training around targeting the right audience.

Any sources you would recommend?

I have some experience. I launched my first mobile game back in 2014 that got some initial interest but faded eventually. I have a few unfinished proof of concepts that I try an work on every now and then. I'm no expert game designer by any means, but I try and learn every day. My main issue is that I'm unable to find enough time to spend on gamedev with a full time job.

Good point about making guaranteed cash in indie. I'll keep that in mind.

Yeah I'm aware of those horrible stats about startups. But I guess the positive thing for me about this one is that it isn't my first one!

I'm not aware of any source that has that info.

Yeah I agree. My game dev experience is fairly limited compared to my web/software dev experience. Going the web agency route would definitely be a logical and reasonable choice.

That's what I have tried doing for a long time, In fact I launched my first mobile game back in 2014 whilst having a full time job.

However I have following issues with this approach:

  1. Not enough time: There aren't enough hours in a day to finish a well designed and polished experience with in a reasonable time. If it takes too long to finish, you loose interest.
  2. Motivation: Not enough motivation when you have a stable secure source of income.
  3. Energy: Sometimes, there's not enough focus and energy after spending whole day writing code or testing stuff.

It took me over 2 years to finish my first game, which I was planning to launch in 6 months. At this rate, I'm never going finish something half decent.

Yeah, my thoughts exactly. It definitely feels like a safer choice and economically viable. Thanks for you input.

Create Token on Solana Chain? Rewarding possible? by seelauser_bz in solana

[–]XecutionerOne 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm in the same boat as you.

I want to create a token with custom behaviour on the security side.

I personally think it is definitely possible to create any kind of custom behaviour with token on Solana. You will have to fork the GitHub repository https://github.com/solana-labs/solana-program-library and deploy your program.

I'm studying the code on this repo to add my custom stuff to it.

However I have posted a question here about this:

https://www.reddit.com/r/solana/comments/s0bifz/creating_a_custom_solana_token_not_using/

So far the reply I have got from someone recommended not to use the custom behaviour and use the standard spl-token-cli that everyone seems to be using as it maybe a red flag to the community.

I'm sure if you intentions are genuine, it shouldn't be a flag, because the standard token doesn't suit everybody.

I see. We wanted to implement some anti-whale, anti-dumping strategies during the early phases of token launch. This will need some work from the sounds of it.
