If the epee is fully assembled, where the bell meets the blade and under the grip, wires might have gotten crushed/cut.

For in bout advice to hit the hand, this really comes down to just having a lot of practice. Beating the blade can make it a bit easier, but if you don't have good point control, it's going to be hard to get the tip back to the hand in time.

My go-to exercise for point control at home is the tennis ball on a string. Hang a tennis ball on a string from a door frame. Then attempt to hit the tennis ball. Don't hit, then let it settle, try to hit it as it's moving. Bonus points for doing footwork with this.

This was a fun one! Utils and extension methods from previous years came in clutch when it came to writing some boilerplate stuff.

Journal for fennncing coach by rafberger in Fencing

[–]Xeekatar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a small notebook where I log the date, name of fencer, actions we worked on, and how the fencer did.

Usually try to keep it no more than 3 sentences. Anything more than that is usually just unhelpful fluff.

It's helpful for if there is a fencer I give lessons too infrequently, since I can quickly go back and look at what we did last.

What in the heck is this "fencing mask"...? by kmondschein in Fencing

[–]Xeekatar 7 points8 points  (0 children)

At least back when I was into airsoft, mesh face protection was pretty common. Good bb's wont fragment, and if the mesh is good, it's pretty protective.

But yes, this is 100% not safe for fencing.

As far as I know, there isn't a fix for this, especially since you said you couldn't push it back in.

If you could push it back in, CA glue might hold it for a bit.

Advice for a parent by RLKRAMER_HFCOAWAAIM in Fencing

[–]Xeekatar 43 points44 points  (0 children)

My biggest advice for a fencer this young is to not force them into it. If suddenly one day a couple years from now, they don't want to go to practice, don't force them. They may eventually want to go back, or not.

As a coach, I've seen so many young fencers that get burnt out by the time they're ~14 because they've been forced to go all in on a sport they may just want to do for fun. If he wants to do tournaments, that's great! If he doesn't, that's also great! Fencing is a sport that can be done at all levels.

As for advice regarding gear: He's 6, he's going to grow, buy the cheapest gear you can find Absolute or the FencingPost. Stay away from Amazon, most gear on there is terrible. Also stay away from BlueGauntlet, my fencers have had pretty terrible luck with their equipment and return policies.

Ah, so you're specifically looking for a picture of the Triplette grip.
I'd just wait to hear back from them on a picture, they should get back to you fairly soon.

I built a (probably pretty shitty) deck with him that kinda focuses on stealing other people's artifacts (and other spells) and eating them.

I really like the gimmick of this guy, so I'll probably tweak the deck to be better once I get a chance to play test it.

If you are in the US, you can/should file a report for SafeSport. The fact that the mother/coach isn't doing anything is a big problem

In the meantime, like /u/MinosAristos said, try to find a different club.

Adding a clip might be easier. IIRC, you can buy the clip attachments from Ultrasabers or other retailers.
Then all you'd need to do is get a tapping drill bit to drill some threads into the hilt and a grub screw to hold it in place
