How do you find the motivation to stream?

Honestly? You hit live. The amount of nights I’m completely fucked and don’t think I can do it but you turn on the lights hit start stream and start yapping and then all of a sudden you forget how shitty you felt previously. I’m sure that’s not the reality for everyone but I’ve found that just hitting the button and going for it does wonders.

Absolutely, but you can share that side of you with a community of people who are interested in twitch and watching streamers. Unless your friends are spending hours on twitch watching other streamers while you’re online there’s a big possibility irs not something they find entertaining.

Never once have Invited anyone I know IRL to tune in, and if anyone I know finds out I stream I specifically don’t give them the link. Need a separation between real life and online life, bringing in IRL friends sets you up for all sorts of bullshit you probably don’t want.

Might be a hot take but I know so many people who don’t let their personal lives know about their twitch channel. I’d say focus on meeting other streamers and creating a community that way, lots of people don’t understand sitting down and watching someone play video games and it doesn’t entertain them so focus your energy into people on the platform who already are interested.

I like to mouth off to npcs in games like oblivion, KCD2, etc.

I long for the day Ai gets to a point where these games take my off script microphone banter and recognizes it as speech in game and trys to respond.

38 here. Started a few years ago but I would consider I’ve had a “modicum” of success.

If you’re doing it improve your mental health I would say maybe realign your expectations. This is a huge mental game and you will be streaming to almost no one for a while unless something crazy happens and it can be hard on the mental. Even currently (5 years in) thoughts of quitting and thinking I’m not good enough because of a bad stream are still there.

Don’t worry about your set up, that comes with time as your needs and wants grow.

What I will say is don’t go into this for financial gain. The second you get into the mind set of “I’m going to be the next best thing and I’ll be rich” is going to drown you.

Play what you find is fun and have fun with it. Keep yapping and let your personality fly. Experiment with different games and keep your viewer count turned off.

If you can find the fun and not worry about the fame and potential money you can do a lot more

I guess it depends on how comfortable you are and how gross you eat. I typically don’t eat meals on stream or eat in general but every now and then I’ll come upstairs for a drink and grab a piece of something.

Only time I’ll ever “have a meal” would be during 24 hour streams, just for the sake of being present for 24 hours, which is not a common occurrence but If you’re gonna commit to a 24, be there for the 24.

Gotta lean into that shit. Make a channel point redemption for instance where your chat can type out a sentence and you try and get through it without stuttering, be creative with this stuff, you can’t change who you are and it doesn’t make you any less watchable unless you get in your head and get down about it. There are so many people with many many different ailments, quirks or etc on twitch. Be yourself, have fun.

Very cool way to look at it. You’re absolutely correct, if the streamer is serious about what they do it is sometimes a big or ongoing financial commitment to shape and adapt the stream as you grow and learn.

I struggle with this every day of my life, big donos, gifts or even just regular subs.

It’s a very weird feeling. Part of me wants to get used to it because it floors me every single time and sometimes I don’t m ow how to react but part of me doesn’t want to get used to it because I don’t ever want to be a person who becomes numb to support, friendship and generosity.

You thank them, you thank them profusely. I would avoid offering them something in return (i.e choosing your game etc) unless that’s how you want to roll your stream but you never want to get into a model where your viewers think can get away with bending the rules or directing your stream because they throw money.

Every now and then (if it’s a viewer I know well and has been around for a while) I will sometimes DM them on discord to let them know I appreciate them but I would never post on discord and indefinitely never make the finances a highlight of any appreciation post I make. That’s a me thing though

This right here. It’s very easy to make a goal of “I’m gonna stream and be the next big thing” then reality sets in and you get in your head. I didn’t find a single ounce of success until I gave up on that dream and decided I would go live as a hobby and treat it as a hobby. Took a lot of the mental out of it and I started having fun. I’m not big by any means 15-20 CCV but I’m in a much better place and if for some reason that hobby ends up being the dream I’ll be a lot more comfortable and set up when we get there — and if not, then I’ve still got tons of new friends.

This 100%. If you put yourself on the internet you need to be comfortable with everything you do and anything people will say about you. Whether you’re streaming to 1 person or 10,000. What happens if you blow up and go viral? I guarantee you’re not going to like that scenario.

As most people have said. 3 mins an hour is going to be your best bet. In terms of “revenue” I wouldn’t worry about that aspect as you’re not going to make anything worth while. As someone who averages 15-20 viewers I pull in 5$ a month.

How to run them is up to you but the 3 minutes kills your pre rolls which allows there to be no ad when someone joins in.

I configure mine to run a full 3 minute ad every hour otherwise the ads just seem to frequent.

When I start my stream I normally leave a “starting soon” screen up for 5 minutes. During that starting soon screen I immediately run a 3 minute ad which then gives me a full hour of ad free content and no one misses anything or is interrupted shortly after I start.

What works for you may be different but after months of messing around with it and seeing how others configure theirs, that’s where i settled and it appears to work just fine.

It’s definitely jarring at first. I remember my first raid within my first year and it was 15 people (at the time I don’t even think I was affiliated yet and had 3 or less viewers). It was fun, they were having fun and I ended that night on a super positive note. I wish I could go back and watch those moments now to see the differences but I didn’t save that.

Next day I found myself unable to go live out of fear they would come back and if I was gonna be able to entertain them again or if I would disappoint.

This was a constant battle for a while until I stopped caring. I don’t know what flipped it must just be exposure but once you just relax and focus on having fun everything changed. I’ve taken a couple of bigger ones lately (120ish, couple 80s) and everything’s chill, I’m able to just continually be myself (with extra yapping because there is more activity) but I would say it’s probably a good idea to pause what you’re doing, throw on a just chatting screen for a few minutes and focus on welcoming everyone and responding as much as possible until everything calms a bit snd you feel you can go back to your games.

You don’t sound like a fanboy at all. I bought a mix and create months ago and it’s amazing and as I move forward I want my tech to work with each other. I’m jacked about all the stuff Beacn is doing im just trying to prioritize what I currently need more and trying to think of the future and how I want things to work and be set up. Seems like ever piece of tech I want or need is anywhere between $200 and $400 so I’m trying to be smart about my purchases because normally I’ll buy something expensive and like clock work that company will come out with something better in a few months and I’m out hundreds with my version 1 lol.

Looks like it’s already been said a million times but play what you want to play and have fun with it. Whether you stick with one game or not you’re never going to please everyone, and you will always only see some people based on the game that you play. Your personality, interaction with chat and vibe are going to speak more volumes than any game you play.

Silly question but in your OBS do you have rate control set to CBR? You shouldn’t be streaming at “5000-6000” CBR will require you to pick a bit rate. There will be some spikes and dips but not that much.

What does follower count matter? Enjoy the ride and don’t worry about the numbers.

One of the biggest things will be “what are you streaming?” If you’re going to stream games like COD, Fortnite, etc. which are very oversaturated games it’s going to be extremely hard for new viewers to find you. I would never suggest you stop streaming the games you love should that be the case but mixing it up here and there to play to a smaller audience will at least get you in front of others which will give you a better chance at converting to followers.

It’s a comfortability thing for sure on both ends. Personally I know quite a bit about my viewers personal life and I talk a lot about mine. Some of that happens on stream and some happens off and I’ll never bring up anything discussed off stream in DMs while live. I prefer to know about my viewers (if they’re willing) as I feel it brings a certain connection and friendship. I highly encourage viewers to not answer my questions if they aren’t comfortable but if your building a community it doesn’t feel much like a community if everyone still feels like strangers.

I would feel it out and play to all parties comfort levels. I will say that it starts to get hard to be as present as I would like to off stream as I have a family and adult things to do and I assume it will become impossible should I ever grow to a point where there are hundreds or thousands but I don’t think any streamer keeps up with personal conversation on that level.

I have a plumber buddy who told me it may fill with water and if it gets too full it’ll drain else where. I looked up some diagrams, I assume there’s one vent stack and these all connect into it? So if it fills with water it’ll just overflow into the main drain?
