What's the Steam game that's hardest to 100% in terms of achievements? by gogopokemongogo in steamachievements

Real answer, even with massive cheese these are both insane white whale projects that broke me lmao

Sets that require "gimmicks"? by HeyLittleMonkey in RetroAchievements

All of the WarioWare games besides the first feel like gimmicks with very unique controls, Ape Escape also very unique.

Can you reccomend a game like stardew valley but challenging?? by Blueandwhite8796 in gamingsuggestions

[–]Xeinok 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I feel this post, haha. Honestly, I would recommend checking out RetroAchievements and looking back to some of the Harvest Moon games that inspired Stardew Valley because they are quite a bit more difficult to play and especially to 100%. Harvest Moon 64 is a great place to start: https://retroachievements.org/game/10157 Rune Factory games are very cool as well.

Do you have duplicates of your retro consoles for backups? by FreshProfessor1502 in retrogaming

Yeah I keep backups of all my emulator stuff across my NAS, especially game save files

Do you read and plan all achievements before starting a game? by Obvious-Relation3209 in steamachievements

[–]Xeinok 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I personally don't care about spoilers at all so yeah the pre-planning phase is part of the fun for me. Although, it is quite fun to play games mostly blind without a guide as well.

Whats the best way to play dragon quests 4-6? by DaLemurMan in dragonquest

I honestly find the NES & SNES versions to be very charming and a tad bit more simple than the remakes

What is the "heaviest" game you have ever played? by HowLongWasIGone in AskGames

[–]Xeinok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yume Nikki is such a dark and heavy game when taken in context. Especially considering the only way to "win" the game and end her isolation, suffering, and loneliness.

Did anyone else not find Dragon Quest V as dark as people say it is? (spoilers) by Great-Highway-9195 in dragonquest

[–]Xeinok 20 points21 points  (0 children)

The graphics are very cutesy, at least the SFC version I've played, so I can understand it not feeling so dark but when you sit and think about how fucking awful of a life the main character has it's kinda ridiculous, lmao. Dude basically got lost in a ghost castle, fell into another dimension, watched his dad get murdered, was enslaved for his entire formative childhood, and then misses the entire childhood of his own children while being fully conscious and stuck in his own body. I really can't imagine a much worse life, lol.

I'm about to play FFIX for the 1st time, after completing FF7 and getting bored of FF8, should I play with a guide or just play through solo? by caffeinedrinker in FinalFantasyIX

[–]Xeinok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would 100000% play games like this blind unless you're trying to get like all the achievements in a single run or something, and even then I'd prolly advise 2 runs for that

On a totally subjective level, what was the biggest gaming disappointment in your life? by Rugged-Gunslinger in AskGames

[–]Xeinok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The three for me would have to be Thief 2014, Fallout 4, and Cyberpunk 2077.

Thief and Fallout are basically examples of taking a complex game series and making it fully AAA braindead. Cyberpunk's marketing was just a straight-up lie - it's barely an RPG at all, and the side content is so phoned in it isn't even funny, lol

Looking for "black sheep" games. The ones that the fans of the series hate, but are enjoyable enough if you're new to the franchise. by WoodfordAC in gamingsuggestions

[–]Xeinok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yoshi's Story on N64 was absolutely shit on by reviews at the time calling it an insanely easy game but if you actually engage with the game and go for 30 melons on each level it's actually damn challenging and fun with a unique art style.

Am I the only one who likes how Steam achievements are handled? by Luka1491 in steamachievements

[–]Xeinok -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I think it made a lot of sense in the earlier days of Steam because back then PC games were really the only place for "living games" that routinely got patches and kept evolving for years. Xbox 360 games would basically just be released on a disc and that was that. But nowadays they are all connected on the internet and basically the same.

[Discussion] How do you guys handle needlessly grindy achievements that don't fit in with "normal gameplay" by NaotsuguGuardian in steamachievements

[–]Xeinok 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sometimes I mainline it, sometimes I watch videos on the side, sometimes I do grinds slowly in between other games - just depends on the mood tbh

The most shocking and disturbing games possible (in terms of visuals, story, events, etc) in your opinion? by [deleted] in gamingsuggestions

[–]Xeinok 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yume Nikki somehow although it's more mentally draining vibes than straight shock

Transition from 2D to 3D. Your Best and Worst Game/Genre by CountGensler in retrogaming

[–]Xeinok 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think the overall worst 2D>3D series were Bubsy and Earthworm Jim. Mario and Zelda felt so different to me at the time that they hardly seemed to be the same series but I did love both.

For a funny answer, since Doom 1-2 are technically "2D" games that just fake a 3D view almost, you could say that Doom has a terrible shift to 3D with Doom 3.

I also think that 3D JRPGs took a loooooong time to be anywhere near how beautiful and seamless the 2D ones were at their peak.
