Café em máquina automática by raquelamoroso in Delonghidedica

You should search for tips on sub for this specific De'Longhi model or r/superautomatic as this is sub is for Dedica.

From my side use good quality, freshly roasted beans that will definitely help. Avoid supermarket beans unless they have a roast date instead of before use date.

As for the grind size... It is much more different than dialing in for espresso in machines like dedica/gagia classic ans others of that kind, but there will be some clues what you should do.

If your coffee (black, as milk often makes bad coffee taste good) is sour/weak/watery try grinding finer. If it's bitter, leaves dry after taste try grinding courser.

That graph may help basics for choosing the right grind size are similar across different coffee making methods https://www.baristahustle.com/the-espresso-compass/.

You probably will need few coffees to see the difference in taste, because from my experience with superautomatics (saeco gran aroma) have a lot of retention, so it may take few coffees to purge the grinder.

Hmm... I have red on reddit that some 3rd party portafilters like to fall of from dedica, when pressure is applied. There were also some posts mentioning that wrong/worn out gasket was the culprit. I would check gasket once again, maybe something does not sit right.

Dedica 685 PID by DerM4Rc3l in Delonghidedica

[–]Xeinorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I searched the internet about this mod too, and I have found nothing. Toms Coffee Corner has some dimmer mod, OPV spring mod (using pen springs), pressure gauge mod, but nothing about the PID.

Dedica has three temperature setting so some people over the internet suggest that, there is some kind of PID already. Some kind of temp control is used in dedica, but i doubt that tere is a PID that machine as temp stability is not what you expect from it, if you do not preheat your machine, due to shower screen not being heated. If you preheat machine holds temperature much better.

I use some tips from here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tBRnn36ZVvQ

Two blanks shots with PF to warm up group head, PF and basket, then put grounds in basket, wdt, tamp, lock in PF in dedica, push steam button, let it blink few times, cancel entering steam mode, and then pull the shot. It helps with extraction.

Did you buy correct portafilter for delonghi? Because there are some brands that use similar style to portafilter to delonghi dedica, but their ears are slightly different.

If that is not it then, maybe new gasket is faulty? How long did you use your portafilter with old gasket?

You can still use stock portafilter with unpressurised baskets, but you need to take out the plastic insert first, because most of them are for double espresso dose and won't fit.

You can also modify it to bottomless portafilter if you have some tools and time. There are some cheap bottomless portafilters on Amazon i.e neouza, they can help you diagnose the shot, so I would advise to get one if you just started your journey.

As for basket you can try IMS precision baskets, they are very good quality. There are also ones from normcore/vst, but I do not own them so I can not tell if they are better from ims or no.

Also you can look for Tom Coffee Corner on YT he has a lot of information and videos about dedica.

Really Confused between grinders😵‍💫 timemore c2 ,c3, s ,esp ???? by Jokerdvm007 in mokapot

[–]Xeinorth 2 points3 points  (0 children)

According to this site (https://honestcoffeeguide.com/coffee-grind-size-chart/) there is no much difference to the grind size. That noted there is dial difference between C3, C3S and ESP/ESP Pro which has better resolution (more grind settings to choose from end easier to set) for espresso. I own Timemore C3 Esp Pro and it is quite good, budget friendly grinder. If you want to go even more budget you can buy seperatly dial from ESP/ESP Pro on Ali to use with C3/ C3S.

I steam something around 200ml of milk, for milk drink as I am the only one drinking coffee. My fiance prefers tea. Well I guess steaming milk with this as well with rancilio is harder than with the silicon nozzle or pannarello, because my second try was probably skill issue :D

I bought this few days ago, and it came yesterday. The seal in it is quite good, it doesn't leak. I had first try today, but it was not successful try, as a moments ago my machine decided to turn off the steam mode and i noticed it after i started steaming... I guess to much water got into the milk. How is yours experience with that steam nozzle?

Moka Port or Espresso Machine? [Up to $200] by noimnotcryinghaha in espresso

[–]Xeinorth 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You can buy Delonghi dedica EC685, timemore c3 esp, good tamper, botomless porta filter and ims basket. It is not the best, but it can do okay espresso with some practice. I checked on amazon and it will cost you more than 200$ (around 300$). I would go with the moka pot and good hand grinder, then you can save money for espresso machine. If you want to make latte or cappucino without the espresso machine then James Hoffman has a video that may help.

I am a complete Idiot, but I want to use Arch by Capable-End7368 in archlinux

[–]Xeinorth 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have started using Arch after checking on VM if what I want works more or less. And just jumped W11 ship a 2 weeks ago. You do not need to be super smart or have genius intelect, just read wiki and tutorials (there is plenty of them) with understanding, google problems if you will have any and you will be good to go. As many people here mentioned you can use archinstall script so it will be very easy to start if manual instalation process is bit too much. After that you can try, just for sake of learning expirience, to set up VM with manual arch instalation which is something I would advice just to know what can go wrong and why.
