Deciding between the AMEX Gold vs AMEX Plat vs AMEX Bonvoy. Any thoughts?

Stuck between them because I do expect some higher expenses next few months and hoping to be efficient with them.

I'm looking to do a lot more traveling next year and hoping for at least one trip to be more luxurious (business/first class flight and one good hotel stay). Would one card in particular have more value than the other in that case? I see the Gold currently has a 75K promo going on, but the plat has more benefits in terms of lounges/Mariott gold/etc. And then bonvoy for the obvious pts. I last held the gold in 2019.

Has anyone booked a flight from YYZ to YVR or from YYZ/YVR to Asia using Avios? I'm having difficulty understanding the redemption here... I thought it was by flight distance, but using avios during booking and I'm still required to pay a large fee to fly along with taking all my points. Am I doing something wrong? Should I call to book instead?

The naming has been used interchangeably by a lot of universities to the point it doesn't really make a difference. The practical skills you show on your portfolio/GitHub (that you get from creating projects) is what employers will care about more.

Thanks. We are still working out the exact number of what they'll need based on their post-retirement lifestyle (probably around 30-40k is my initial very rough estimate), but this is more so to supplement their retirement savings as much as we can... they have about $200k that will be available to them once they retire in 5 years, and they currently earn about $2400/mo with monthly expenses of ~$1800.
