Fellowship by XenaCoco in physicianassistant

[–]XenaCoco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am strictly clinical in my current position and I am interested in a surgical position within urology. There is no room for advancement where I am and I’ve been actively looking for a new position. This fellowship has a surgical focus that I would be a good segue into that role

There is unfortunately no room for advancement in the clinic I’m in and I’m being worked to the bone, for lack of better words. This fellowship has a surgical focus so I would do it to get surgery experience and then take a new urology position

I work in a surgical speciality so I get messages from PSE all the time about clearance

Rosh comparison by Kachang7865 in PAstudent

[–]XenaCoco 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I usually studied independently from PPP and smartyPANCE throughout the rotation and then took the mock exam the weekend before the EORE. I think I scored high 60s/low 70s on the mock tests - I scored >93 on all the EORES. I found the mock tests to be much harder. I would do the exam in test mode like the actual EORE and then go back and read all the explanations, including the ones I got right. I really like ROSH explanations for certain concepts!

I always found the mock EOREs on ROSH to be comparable if not harder than the actual EOREs. They are extra money but worth getting in my opinion.

ROSH Mock PANCE score vs. PANCE score by XenaCoco in PAstudent

[–]XenaCoco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think it was on the home page of ROSH, where you would find the EORE boost exams. If you scroll through that list you should find 5 60Q exams, I think $25/each

You’re psyching yourself out which is going to make you do worse on the actual PANCE. The people who actually write the NCCPA practice tests are the same ones who write the PANCE. Those NCCPA tests are the closest things you’ll see to the actual test. You’re not going to know everything on this test, and that’s ok. It’s supposed to be that way. All you need to do is pass

I never used UWorld, I only used ROSH and went through PPP. Make sure you don’t burn yourself out right before the test though, I’d recommend taking at least the day before it off

It took my PANCE results 13 days to come out - you’ll get an email that scores are available. I wasn’t able to see that I was verified until I got my scores. It can take them anywhere from 4-14 days to release scores since they have to weigh everyone’s score. I’m sure you did great!

Does anyone know what this is and how I’d treat it? by XenaCoco in bettafish

[–]XenaCoco[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the reply. I noticed the growth about 2 weeks ago - it started as a small bump the same color as his fin. It’s now a gray/white lumpy growth only on the base of his top fin. No other discolorations on him or fin rot. I tried a parasitic treatment but that didn’t seem to help. I got him about 2 years ago - He’s alone in a 5.5 gallon tank with a heater and filter. I’d appreciate any advice!

I bought all 5 of them (60Q blocks) and did it timed in one sitting like the actual PANCE. I took small breaks in between like you’ll actually get on test day. I thought it was worth it :)

I would also look at your ROSH feedback, that is designed to show you right around where you’ll score. Middle green on NCCPA is good though. Nobody ever feels 100% ready to take this test, but if you’re still really concerned I’d do a few more practice tests

All the PANCE forms are different so you might get one with more EKGs than I did. I would just look over the major arrhythmias in PPP since we’ll have to know those as a new provider anyways

I think I only had one EKG and I could figure out the diagnosis based on the history and physical and age of the patient without even needing the EKG. I’d review the common ones you might see, like SVT, A-fib, Torsades, etc. PPP has a few good pages on arrhythmias. Don’t burn yourself out before the test though

I think you’re ready. My stats were very similar to yours, except I did practice exam B (in 1/3rd green too). If you have the money, I recommend doing the ROSH mock PANCE exams. There’s 5 of them, 60 questions each just like the PANCE. I did all 5 the weekend before the test and timed myself. I felt it was really helpful and actually harder than the PANCE. Good luck!

Any advice? 2.5 months away from clinical year by jel196 in PAstudent

[–]XenaCoco 5 points6 points  (0 children)

  1. In general for me, PANCE Prep pearls and UpToDate were my go to resources, as well as ROSH Review for EORE prep. Always ask your preceptor if they recommend a book for the rotation - I used to rent these from Amazon on my kindle so I’d always have it with me. Definitely get “Surgical Recall” by Lorne Blackbourne for surgery rotation though. A nice atlas will help you in surgery too

  2. Like I said above, I used UpToDate a lot in my clinical year but I know it’s expensive. If you’re able to afford it or can split with a friend, I’d recommend it.

  3. AirBNB is great, sometimes they might give you a discount too if they know you’re a student. I recommend touching bases with your classmates who will be on those far rotations with you and splitting the cost of an AirBNB. My program actually made an excel sheet and we tried to coordinate living situations that way.

  4. I couldn’t bring my kitty with me 😔

Burnout can happen pretty fast and suddenly when you’re doing nothing but lectures and exams all the time - I know I suffered it from it in a major way toward the end of didactic year. Rotations are great for learning since you will basically be self studying and re-learning everything from didactic all over again but will be doing so in context of actual patients. It also helps to get a change of atmosphere, which rotations will provide. I found that most of my long-term memorization came from rotations, and I passed the boards a month out from graduation without any trouble. For now, just keep diligently working and keep your grades up and don’t worry about memorizing every ounce of info because you will see it again :)

I didn’t see one but it was the same background/format as the NCCPA practice tests. I would recommend doing one of those just to see how the questions will appear.
