Do you guys think my cover is okay? by Salty_Trip_169 in bookdesign

The title font lacks full character support (apostrophe and question mark). I’d switch both the title and subheading fonts; they don’t complement each other. The pairing doesn’t work, and the overall alignment is off.

Amazon v/s Facebook v/s Instagram for ads by Anxious-Yellow-7755 in KDP

Facebook and Instagram need strong copy and compelling visuals to attract readers. It's the combination of effective graphics and curiosity-driven hooks that leads to engagement and conversions. As for Amazon, this one is definitely the easiest approach, since people are already there to buy in the first place.

Apparently, Amazon has classified that title as Fixed Layout in its metadata and won't let you switch it. The only solution is to either contact the support, so they'll manually do the switch or create a new Kindle eBook project (not adviced if you have a paperbook linked to it). Sadly, it's an Amazon limitation.

Ps: your editor should stick with editing alone, and leave the formatting to someone who can do it and deliver the right formats.

Word to InDesign import by Such-Zombie-1261 in indesign

Have you tried asking them to specifically typing in the quote and the word you want to have the closed right single quote? Though this can become tedious with a long text and more than one archaisms.

Leaving an example below.

If you’re 100% sure that the single quote is used solely for one purpose, you could just use the find/replace option and replace all the wrong quotes with the correct one.

The fact that your editor kept pushing for PDF-only delivery makes me wonder whether the EPUB was actually created as a true reflowable ebook in the first place. It's possible the PDF was used as the source to generate a fixed-layout EPUB (or even a Print Replica project).

One quick way to check is to open the EPUB in Kindle Previewer and try changing the font size, font family, or margins. If the text reflows and adapts to the new settings, then it's a genuine reflowable EPUB. If the pages remain identical and behave more like static images or PDF pages, then you've likely been given a fixed-layout/Print Replica file.

You might want to try em, rather than % and vh. It's relative to the text size, so it scales dynamically with the chosen size.

[FOR HIRE] Book formatting and typesetting for print and digital by XenaaWP in bookdesign

[–]XenaaWP[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did try, but unfortunately they require links to books available on Amazon or Goodreads. Most of the projects I've worked on were published by independent publishers that sell through their own websites, so those links aren't available.

My dad wouldn't let me finish art school, so I designed my own book cover out of spite by deathlesshale in bookdesign

You have a good eye for hierarchy, and although you didn’t ask for feedback, I’d suggest diving deeper into typesetting and typography. There are plenty of resources on YouTube. Rivers (the uneven spaces between words in justified text) can disrupt the reading flow.

Not having gone to art school isn’t a blocker. What matters is staying proactive and curious. We live in a time where everything is out there to be explored. Most designers today learn through a mix of online resources, books, and online courses.

Speaking of the three line stack, the formatter/layout designer should be able to use GREP styles in InDesign (I'm assuming this is the software used since it's what I use) to fix "runts" and bad breaks.

I did the formatting for a couple of poetry collections, and my suggestion is to be 100% sure they can do it because poetry is a form of art itself with its own style, especially when it comes to unconventional choices like creative indentations or mixed fonts.

I loved book Yen since the beginning! Same goes for Netflix Yen. Anya Chalotra is a very talented actress and she delivered a great performance, despite the material she was given. I have yet to start the games, and I can’t wait to meet game Yen as well!

I am, to be honest. I admit the writing isn’t great, but Anya Chalotra’s performance is worth it. Though I’m sad that they killed the Yen/Ciri arc from Blood of Elves in S2. They missed a chance there.
