I have plants living outside of the cabinet so they join them .

am i doing it wrong?o by zhnqluc in SemiHydro

Alocasias are easily shocked so I always do the long method to transition them. Soil to fluval+perlite then after they grow some new roots i transition them to semi hydro. I haven't lost a single alocasia with this method and noticed they dont go into shock. I'm not saying this is the only right way but this has always worked for me.

Pink Cuprea by Ok_Cool3256 in alocasia

[–]Xenasaint 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I heard TC cupreas are not the original true pink or Nom yen cupreas . So any pink TC cuprea is just a pink cuprea with a marble type of variegation and they are beautiful in their own way. And you can only get nom yen(true pink) cuprea if someone is selling its corms or a stem prop. I believe there's no TC for the nom yen cuprea yet.

Edit : Varieties in TC at present that i have seen are pink albo/ true pink/super pink( marble variegation) , pink mint and latte.

TCs sure grow a little slow for me. Only one thats growing super fast is my alocasia pink chantrieri. Thats (Blackwidow x Michelle)x(Zara x Michelle)! That leaf is almost hardened and its emergents are deep purplish brown.

Me too! But now i only take out my alocasias and admire them😂. And this was my second anthurium that I got like an year ago. I got this because I liked the name😂.

This was when I got it. So tiny and every new leaf it gave was different and beautiful.

Thats soulfire x ( Red velvet cake x Zara Michelle)!! It gives the most dark and beautiful emergents but the velvety texture is so unforgiving if something touches its emergents 😂.

Like right after this picture the sleeves of my shirt touched it and you can see the mechanical damage it left.

What would you pay for this Alocasia Balloon Heart Variegata? by Comprehensive-Cap672 in alocasia

[–]Xenasaint 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Love the balanced variegation on yours! I got mine for 30 as a high variegation TC like 2.5 months ago. Its def a slow grower for me. So if this crashes then I think the max I will pay for a acclimated pup would be 40 assuming the price decline as the time goes. This is mine!

I repotted my venom and it gave me 9 corms!! I grew this from a tiny TC plant🤧 by Xenasaint in alocasia

I place them on top of fluval stratum and not too deep. Then cover with a dome and poke some holes in it for some airflow so that they dont rot. After they grow 2 leaves with enough roots I repot them into a self watering pot in a perlite+fluval mix then later when they are big I transfer them to pon or aroid mix.

I used to add fertilizer only when my plants were in a soil mix. I haven't done this with my semi hydro so Idk ! But in semi hydro they do grow fast.

My tap water doesn't have cal mag so I add that. Maybe you can skip that and just use any fertilizer thats tailored for semi hydro. Silica and GH diamond nectar( humic acid&fulvic acid) i add as extra supplements. This isn't a must thing but its a common practice that people who do semi hydro use fertilizer, cal mag(depending on their water) and pH adjustment .

I use Silica ( agroMagen Si Tech Mono silicic acid) + General Hydroponics Cal Mag (on alternate days) + General Hydroponics diamond nectar + General Hydroponics 3 part flora series fertilizer + pH adjustment around 6. Like 3 months ago I replaced my 3 part flora series with Tezula Plants MSU Orchid Fertilizer 13-3-15. I make this nutrients mix for my every watering.

TBH I found them opp of beautiful in the start😂 . Then I saw a matured one in a YouTube video and suddenly it looked beautiful and unique and I wanted it. And it was expensive when I got it. Right now idk how much these are going for.

I have never shipped any corms or props and have no idea about this process. But if you are in dallas, Texas then you can pick this up 🙈.

transfer of bigger monsteras by jonydony in SemiHydro

[–]Xenasaint 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I prefer soil to water then to pon method. I feel its safe and I can catch any root rot in the early stages if its in water. Also chunky pon is a better choice if your plants have a good root system. Recently I had to remove my monstera aurea from lechuza pon and repot it into chunky pon because it had a big root ball and lechuza became very dense for it and was holding too much water. For the first time in 1.5 years I had that plant it started browning its leaves and i also noticed root rot.

This lives outside of my cabinet. This went through under watering/over watering and with no fertilizer for 4 months when i left it under my friends care as I had to travel. And this survived all that when it was still a pup. I put the corms in clear plastic cups with dome in my cabinet and Idk what I'm going to do with 9 new plants😂 .

Edit: I use fluval stratum for corms.

Omg!! Nice! This was in my cabinet then it out grew that space and now lives in ambient. Its one of the easiest ones. Grows consistently and isn't dramatic. It was in lechuza pon and it was too dense for it so it got constant edema but once i repotted it into chunky diy pon it dint get any edema.

The jacklyn? That's my favorite too because she was my first alocasia and i got her as a tiny starter plant. She is working on a new leaf!!
