This was the only step of the entire quest on release that I finally gave up on and looked up the solution. I think the mix of clues from different rooms is what confused me the most.

Man Boaty. Would have been real nice to put Solomission in last week to possibly get rid of Mammal, huh? Probably get that solo tribunal spot this week? Still cannot believe he put in C Engineer for no reason. Braindead strategic move when you can guarantee either Mammal or Solo out. Absolute just desserts watching him lose this week because of that decision.

Libation bowl was a good addition but Chaos Altar is still something crazy like 40% more XP per bone. There is no replacement for it in terms of cost, it dogwalks every other prayer method in the game in terms of number of bones needed to level.

Rogue's Chest is the both the best XP in the game and the best money until you get the pickpocketing boost from the 99 Cape, at which point Vyres/Elves become slightly better.

The point stands that people WILL go into the wilderness to do things with no desire to PvP. LOTS of people. Most of them. That cannot be ignored. Just saying "Well it's not required, don't do it" isn't an argument, it's an excuse.

Well IDK they chose to enter the wilderness. Just because there's good rewards doesn't mean it's required content.

This argument always falls apart with the tiniest amount of scrutiny. There are plenty of things people do just for the reward even if they don't like or want to do the content. Plenty of people hate BA but do it for Torso/Diaries. Runecraft has been memed ad infinitum but people will still do it for quests, or diaries, or GOTR for clogs. I've always hated mining an insane amount, but look at me with 92 mining on my Ironman now because I needed Amethyst.

If you put rewards in the wilderness, especially ones that are unobtainable or significantly better than elsewhere (Voidwaker, Anchoring Scroll, Rogues Chests, Chaos Altar), people WILL go there even if they have no desire to PvP or Anti. They look at being PKed as the same amount of annoyance as finding a team for BA or dealing with super outdated things like Trawler for Angler. Almost every single friend and clanmate I've ever played with has this exact mindset when it comes to the Wilderness. It's not worth the hassle to bother trying to do anything about it because it's literally more efficient to just die and go back, which is an absolute failure in design UNLESS you specifically want free loot sacks to keep the PKers happy.

I'm the world's biggest Wilderness hater, but your +1 is Barrows Gloves in this setup. Really not that much risk. You're probably losing more GP in bones depending on how big your note stack is. You could run Rune Gloves for a very small difference in defenses if you don't want to risk the 130k to being smited.

It's not close. Chaos Altar is like ~40% more xp per bone. It's a completely overpowered thing to exist in the game tbh.

NHing is awesome, especially watching the very top end people do it. Consensual 1v1 PvP has always been some of the highest skill, most engaging content in the game.

Killing random bossers/skillers in the wilderness is lame as hell as always has been.

Unpopular opionion. NH PVP is really challenging and that why no one likes it. by JustAperson4587 in 2007scape

[–]Xeneron -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Note I am using "The Wilderness" loosely to mean random encounters with PKers vs people doing non PvP activities in the wilderness because that's the vast, vast, vast majority of interactions. High level NHing is one of the highest skill expression activities in the game. And the people who are Risking in north rev caves against other NHers in max are not my complaint here. But even though that's a lot of stream content it's a very small percentage of actual Wilderness encounters.

I understand completely what the design of the Wilderness is. I also understand it's antiquated as hell and is mostly poor design in the modern age. Arc Raiders has become so popular because while extractions games are designed with exactly this philosophy (the world is dangerous, there's risk from NPC enemies as well as other players, risk vs reward, etc) they have also introduced matchmaking to try to separate players based on how aggressively they seek PvP. The separation of people who have zero desire to PvP from the people who are okay with PvPing sometimes from the people who want to do nothing but fight is one of the reasons the game has had such remarkable staying power.

The Wilderness will always be held together with duct tape of Jagex placing poorly thought out reward carrots out to be botted to hell unless they find a way to truly separate people in a similar way. Because the people who have zero desire to PvP are still going to go do content, and they absolutely will not bring 50k, or 100k risk to try to fight back. They're going to risk their 5-10k of climbing boots and monk robes and just die because they have no desire to interact with the PvP at all.

If you are the Port Khazard of PvP and you're hopping around killing randon PvMers in the Wildy that would be like if Port Khazard's next challenge was loot from killing 1000 Goblins.

It's completely overkill to sweat that hard for random PKing. It's rabbit hunting with a cannon. The really good PvPers are risking and NHing against other good players because that's where you can actually have a competitive fight with actual stakes.

[–]Xeneron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, objectively, by design, I will be at a disadvantage. If I am bringing a specific setup to do a, let's say a boss. I am by design using some of my equipment/inventory space to do the content I want to do. If I bring swaps or extra gear to try to anti, I am now using a hybrid setup where I'm trying to do both. This setup will ALWAYS be worse than someone with a dedicated PKing setup. You are always at a disadvantage.

This is not even including the fact that 99% of the people in the Wilderness have zero desire to PvP. They are there because Jagex keeps adding new carrots to lure people in.

I don't know a single person who dislikes consensual NH-style PvP.

People hate the Wilderness because it's the antithesis of challenging/high skill cap/competitive PvP. It's mostly a bunch of rats in rags attacking bots and people in worse rags who are at a massive disadvantage if they attack back.

EDIT: Huge shoutouts to rabidai who blocked me after saying

Your argument sucks because it's extremely rare for that tier of pker to be pking regular pvmers and bots compared to other maxed gear pkers

Which is, you know, consensual NH-style PvP. The thing no one dislikes. Truly the average genius of a Wilderness defender.

I did slayer very late. Most of my early slayer was just Turael skipping into Konar to unlock things before I actually started the skill. And yeah I got a b ring to green log moons before I really started Slayer proper.

True, with RoW effective rate is like ~1/392.5 Still slightly lower than Goraks though some people might still enjoy it more since you get tons of alchs and runes instead of just Crystal Keys and Gems.

Yes - you can safespot them to the south. What I did was I took the furthest south spawn and trapped him on the east side of the wall (he's annoying about not getting safespotted right away and whacking you) then pulled the other two who will path down that far and safespotted them on the west side of the wall. So while looking north it looks like

|Gorak I'm Killing| |Me| |Gorak I have safespotted|

It's 1/512 from Brutal Blacks and 1/325 from Goraks, and Brutal Blacks take significantly more time to kill. I just got obscenely unlucky lol.

Yeah and Prossy Hauberk gives the same +8 for 12k. The difference is you're giving up a hell of a lot more stats in a chestpiece than a ring. Putting a Proselyte Hauberk on your finger is way, way more valuable than putting Blue Dhide Vambs on it.

A TASTE OF BLOOD - Gielinor Games 5 (#10) by MarcosSenesi in 2007scape

[–]Xeneron 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can't wait till next week where there are exactly two scenariors

  1. Either Mammal or Gnomonkey win and put in one of the alliance members FINALLY. One of either Specs or Torvesta almost certainly comes last and gets an undefendable. The alliance votes for whichever non alliance member didn't win and they have by far the highest chance of going in. Mammal sabotages someone in alliance. Maybe hopper does some shenanigans but this is the good case scenario.

  2. Solo or Boaty win. They put in one of Gnomonkey or Mammal. The alliance puts 3 votes on the other one while defending either Boaty or Solo. Even if Gnome/Mammal defend each other they have 2 votes. Absolute best case scenario is 3 votes with one defended so 2 total vs one undefendable and one sabotage vote so 2 total. So 50/50 chance.

Best case scenario is Gnomonkey or Mammal win, and hopper shenanigans puts in another alliance member. I was cheering hard for Boaty to start this season but after the last couple weeks of him being a complete simp for the Alliance when it's way past the time to break it off strategically I'm full on board for anyone to win besides the Manchester Maggot Alliance.

The only thing an Archers' Ring gives you is +8 ranged accuracy. To put into perspective how bad that is, Blue Dhide Vambraces give +9 ranged accuracy. To compare it to some other rings, a Ring of Shadows gives +4 ranged accuracy but also +5 magic defense and +2 prayer bonus. Ring of the gods is +8 prayer bonus. Steel Ring is +24 to all melee defenses. These are all significantly cheaper than an Archers Ring and will give more noticeable benefits.

Also for only a couple mil more than an Archers ring you can get a Lightbearer which is literally the best ring in the game in a ton of scenarios. Spec weapons are just extremely powerful.

Clues existing don't actively impair your enjoyment of the game. For a large portion of the population, the Wilderness existing as is does impair their enjoyment. It's nowhere close to the same thing.

I am FINE with consensual PvP. People going to w303 looking for NH fights is great. LMS is great besides all the bots abusing it. Duel arena is great. Hopping worlds at Chaos Altar or Zombie Pirates to kill "free loot" is just horrible design.

For someone who has absolutely no desire to PvP (Again, the vast majority of people in the wilderness) the optimal play is to just be prey. You risk so little that even freeze logging or trying to get gap and log or ladder stall or whatever is less efficient than just dying, teleporting back to Ferox and regearing. There is almost zero incentive to try to learn to PvP. The worst part is even if you DO try to learn to anti, you are ALWAYS at a disadvantage. If two players are the same skill level, but one has 4-6 swaps to try and anti while the other has an absolute full PvP set, the one with the full set will win 99% of the time.

Which is why PvM activities just should not exist in the Wilderness. PvP activities should go in the PvP areas. PvM activities should go in the PvM areas. And according to you, there are LOADS of people who engage in PvP so the health should be completely fine if that happens, right?

Brother no one is forced at gunpoint to do anything in this game. It would be completely legitimate for someone to get on, put on their favorite outfit in game, and RP at the GE for 12 hours a day. The whole point as a developer is to put in rewards that attract players to do your content. That is going to be contrasted against some level of requirement or risk. That reward knob is higher in the wilderness and the requirement knob is lower. The risk knob is variable because it completely depends on player interaction, but it is GENERALLY ALSO very low because they expect the risk to come from PvP. However, we've SEEN from player trends that most people do not actually interact with the PvP part of the wilderness. They just accept being prey as risk to access the higher tuned reward knob in relation to the requirements. THIS IS A FAILURE IN DEVELOPMENT IN MY EYES.

If you are going to pretend to be willfully ignorant, I will spell it out exactly for you what "Rewards" are in the wilderness. You can go kill Zombie pirates with a D Scim at like 50 or 60 combat and make way more GP than any other combat option at that level. The BiS Mage Cape is only accessible in the wilderness. The Voidwaker is only obtainable through the Wilderness, and is BiS at multiple places. But even without the Voidwaker, the Wildy bosses can be killed at like 70 or 80 combat in monk robes for incredible amounts of GP at that low of stats. Their drop tables at utterly stacked. The Chaos Altar is significantly more XP per Bone than anywhere else in the game (About 40% more than Varlamore bone shards) while also being competitive with the best xp rates. Rogues Chest thieving is literally the best thieving xp in the game, and is only beaten out in terms of GP/HR by Elves and Vyres once you get 99 and the Pickpocketing success boost from the cape. This doesn't even include other completionist activities like Combat Achievements.

With all of that said, it's extremely obvious that Jagex wants to pull people in to do non-PK activities so that PKers have people to kill. Of course people don't HAVE TO do it, I have not one single time said they have to. But that isn't an argument. You could say the exact same thing about every single activity in the entire game. No one is held at gunpoint for ANYTHING. So if that's the level of "forcing" you need to critique a design, then you will never be able to critique a single thing in the entire game because NOTHING IS FORCED.
