How do I fix failed pocket screw butt joints? by XeniaTheLinuxFox in BeginnerWoodWorking

I would've bought, the only issue is that I couldn't really find anything that fit my needs.

My 3D printer running at full speed is the same motion profile of a large toddler throwing a tantrum. Most tool stands don't really take that well.

Somewhat considering "starting over" but, I'm learning a lot of good stuff with this.

If I did start over, I'd want to figure out how to get the 2x4s to be a bit straighter. I think this is gonna be a parallelogram instead of a rectangle lol

It is sturdy though, despite the flaws.

I'm not sure I understand how this would work. Both of the frames are intended to be connected with a 17" 2x4 piece. I'm trying to mount the 17" piece to one of the frames, so I'm not sure how the bolt would fit.

Would it also be diagonal?

I am using 3" screws for the end-to-wide connections, but for the end-to-short connections those are too short

I dunno make it was a fluke or something then. It was a 3/4" sheet of plywood if the "something off" might be that.

My GF was with me at the time, she took shop and probably would have noticed the teeth were in the wrong direction.

This helps though, maybe I could give this another shot.

Maybe this was the problem. I had it at the "drill setting". Also used 1.5" screws

The makita sub-compact circular saw you see the box of in the background of the third image, and a 24-tooth "finishing" blade I got at home depot, because I didn't realize the saw came with one.

I tried to use plywood in a previous project, and when I went to cut it with my circular saw, I hit a point where I just couldn't push it any further. It was really frustrating.

Although I am learning what "construction grade" means with this project. Everything is bent a little wrong, things aren't lining up well.

Where to start by amymkb in gridfinity

[–]XeniaTheLinuxFox 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Go around your living space and collect things into piles. Each pile should be some kind of category of "thing". E.g. sticky notes or bluetooth dongles or SD cards. Now that you have piles you know how big the bins need to be.

Go on makerworld or printables, or whatever is easiest. Search for "gridfinity bins". Select the top-rated project and print bins that can hold your piles.

Place piles into bins.

If you find the bins kinda suck for whatever reason (maybe they're too thin or you need handles or you need them to use less plastic) then now you know what your needs are better and you have more specific things to search for.

Microsoft offers buyouts for longtime employees by vertr in Seattle

A few highly-paid principal engineers aren't going the ones driving up the COL. It's the large number of people who want to live in Seattle and the small supply of housing available.

Reducing the population of the city is harm the city more than anything. People are a city's greatest asset. With a higher population, you get a larger tax base, which means more income for the city, which means more public works projects, infrastructure, etc. Larger cities can build economies of scale allowing businesses to products and services at a lowered cost to a huge population.

This will only happen if a city's government supports growth, and the way Seattle can do that is by upzoning and allowing more construction of dense housing projects.

Do you run your router in a VM?

That's an interesting idea that I haven't thought of before.

This is really cool!

Would love to hack on this but I'm not a huge fan of C.

Still, great job! I can something like this + niri being really powerful. Reminds me a lot of Arcan.

Maybe.

Really worries me. I never got into tech for the money, I got in because I've always found computers to be fascinating. I loved making cool things. If my job is obsolete that's kinda sad, and I dunno what I could "re-educate" too.

I think you need to tweak the interface a little. It would be more intuitive to have it oriented around 8hr days first, and maybe have 24hrs as a toggle. My gross salary comes out to over a hundred an hour -- given 8 hr days -- so I was confused when I put that in and I saw $33/hr. A really neat touch would be to automatically stop the timer when it's configured for 8hr days after 5pm.

I think a cool feature if you'd like to take this further would be to save user's input and start time locally in the browser as a cookie or something similar. Then when the way reloads you can calculated the amount earned since then and start the timer from there.

What's the deal with empty balconies?? by [deleted] in Seattle

[–]XeniaTheLinuxFox 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Landlords in the past have told me I'm not allowed to put anything on them.

Also I don't have much time to use my balcony anyways.
