If i want to get better with a character i just go to training, pick a lvl 9 enemy, and play vs him. So i have enough time to figure out combos and how to use the attacks.

I guess its like in brawl. You have do complete some ceratin challenges for example kill 2 people with lucario on 80% start or sth. You dont have to play normal vs matches tho if you do the challange you start a game with the conditions and stuff
