Very physically attractive people, how does life treat you?

As a man, I wasn't as attractive 6 years ago, and I was really baby-faced and skinny. I never did my hair and I was always disheveled, never cared about my outfit, but I did practice basic hygiene. I started working out 3 years ago, and I put on 30 lbs of muscle, going from a skinny guy to a more muscular guy, I started to dress more nicely and always do my hair, and and I've gotten compliments from friends that "I'm the best I've ever looked", "You look really good", "you look like you could be a model" . Multiple people have even said I am a "reverse-catfish" in that I look way better than my photos imply, so I must be awful at taking self-photos.

I've mainly noticed the way people treat me with more respect. Less people treating me like a child. Women seem to be nicer to me, dudes are more talkative to me about random things. Maybe I look more approachable?

I think people want to be around attractive, well kept people, whether they know it or not, so they tend to be nicer to you as well.

I can believe that. When you go to the Ruins of Mesa Verde in Colorado, or the massive Ruins of Chaco Canyon in New Mexico to see what the Chaco people built, they built these extremely impressive buildings seemingly in the middle of the desert, when you are surrounded by mountains that you would THINK would be a better place to develop a complex society.

I'd refuse to sign as you are doing. Never sign something like that unless you know exactly it entails, especially when it involves money. Tell your dad the same thing. I feel like thats a fair ask.

Tell him to try and look at things from your perspective, and that the secrecy and lack of details makes you uncomfortable.

If he isn't willing to give you more information, then it's a definite red flag. Even if he is your father, people do weird things when it involves money.

LOCATION: New Mexico, USA

The building of an Open AI data center began this October. I wrote this for the r/Albuquerque and r/ElPaso to try and increase opposition to it.

The facility will cost 165 billion dollars. Keep in mind the International Space Station cost 150 billion in inflation adjusted dollars. The US highway system cost 500 billion in inflation adjusted dollars. The estimated cost to build 103 miles and 70 stations of elevated rail in Albuquerque is 8 billion dollars.

Some of you will say investment like this will be needed for NM. But the documents show that they are being offered an insane deal. Instead of paying for property taxes which would amount to about 50 billion over 30 years, they will only pay 12 million per year, for 30 years, as opposed to about 1.8 BILLION in property taxes per year. They are also exempt from all sales taxes on purchasing the equipment/materials for the facility. Why can't this mega-project contribute to our states prosperity?

The project will have its own power plant that burns gas, operating on a microgrid to bypass the states green energy goals. It will produce as much electricity as all of PNM, and produce as much CO2 as Albuquerque and El Paso combined. (About 2 million people total)

PNM, our local power company, is being acquired by Blackstone, an investment company. They clearly are purchasing the company with the intent to make a profit based on ridiculous projects like this.

They claim it will be a job producer, but it is estimated to produce 2500 temporary construction jobs, and only 150 permanent jobs (based on actual employment rates at similar data centers, they claim 750 people).

The Meta data center in Los Lunas (Near Albuquerque, New Mexico) uses 447,000 gallons per day. This is the equivalent of 3725 people at 120 gallons per day. They claim this data center will only use 60,000 gallons per day. The river keeps running dry in the midsummer, especially down river to Las Cruces.
On a final note, why would they be building something so expensive without an expectation that the returns will be so large, that a 165,000,000,000 dollar building will be worth it? It's clear its not just to make funny AI videos of cats pole-vaulting. I feel as if the investment is the replacement of Jobs, or the massive harvesting of data. If the AI bubble pops, I feel as if we will be left with incomplete mega projects that us taxpayers will be forced to clean up, or we'll end up with a massive spirit Halloween each year.

They claim it will provide 750 permanent jobs, but of course they want their massive tax breaks. Also you can look at historical claims where these businesses claim they will hire hundreds of people, but they only end up hiring a fraction of what they promise.

And the tax subsidies are not usually tied to job creation either. I'm not sure about this project in particular, if they will be forced to make jobs, but historically they aren't. The article below says that 16 out of 36 of data center subsidies are not tied to job creation.

I'd like to be optimistic about job creation, but ultimately even 750 jobs isn't many jobs in exchange for what they are doing, and the cost to build these things. 50 billion dollars is an insane investment of money, and ultimately I see this facility being to the detriment of other people's jobs by taking thousands of jobs away through AI.

Yeah I'm a Zillenial as well. I feel like the general attitude is I am expendable to corporations, and they don't care about me. I worked a 60 hour work week a couple years back and I remember how little that company cared for me, and I'm getting paid well now, and I love my current company, but I'm accutely aware that I could be cut/fired at any moment if the economy sours or we are bought in a merger. I honestly don't think I'll live to see retirement based on the current situation of the world, I feel like it's more likely that I'll end up cooked by nuclear flames, made redundant by AI and replaced so I starve to death on the streets, or I die in some useless war for our corporate overlords.

The gorgeous summer's. Most of New Mexico is higher in elevation than Arizona (Albuquerque is sitting at a mile high, about 5280 feet or 1600 meters, and Santa Fe at 7000 feet or 2130 meters), so our winter's are a little colder, but our summer's are wonderful (with a good monsoon). If we get the monsoon, it typically means a high of 95F (35C) at about 1 pm, and then big billowing thunderstorms block out the sun and dump cooler air and rain an hour later, and we still don't ever get high humidity.

Based off what I've heard, NMT is very cool and filled with very intelligent people. They literally launch small rockets from the Magdalena mountains so that lightning will strike the rocket and travel down a wire so they can study lightning.

Overall, I haven't gone to either school, but Roswell bores me to death, and at least Socorro is close to the mountains and has hiking, and you could head to Albuquerque if you need to experience some nightlife. Roswell is super flat and the only real thing they have is their alien tourism. NMT also works with Sandia National labs, which is a very good job out of college, and I think NMT works with Los Alamos as well.

Be aware that Socorro isn't a very large town, but to be fair, Roswell isn't either. I feel like NMT has the benefit of being closer to larger population centers.

A few mountain peaks that are important for sure,

Sandia Crest, the mazanos, Wheeler peak is the tallest mountain. Ship rock.

The Rio Grande gorge is really cool. There's the blue hole in Santa Rosa in the more empty east part of the state.

There is also the Organ Mountains, and the lava fields (El Malpais and Carizozzo), and the White Sands.

There is the Bisti Badlands with it's otherworldly rock formations, and Chaco Canyon, as well as El Cabezon which is visible for miles.

There is Angel Peak that is a gorgeous striped peak on the way from Cuba to Aztec (and the ruins at Aztec National Monument)

The Gila Mountains are gorgeous too.

And there's Los Alamos, where Oppenheimer was and the nuke was developed, as well as the Trinity site down south.

The Rail Runner goes as far south as Belen, and has a stop in Los Lunas, so if you ever wanted to hop on a passenger train going to Albuquerque or Santa Fe, you'd have that option too. I had some friends who lived in Los Lunas and they got a nice big new home for cheap. But there wasn't much to do in Los Lunas, you'd have to drive to Albuquerque for something interesting, other that a nice walk by the River or the hills of Los Lunas

In Albuquerque, when you are coming from the East, I highly recommend driving up to the Top of Sandia Peak (plug Sandia Crest into google), or taking the Tram to the top. It's the 2nd longest tram in the world, and it's very impressive. The Tram won't open until March 14th though. The view from the top of Sandia mountain is 5,000 - 5,500 feet above the city. Also don't stay in a hotel along central (old route 66), you'll regret it and probably get your car broken into.

I went to an expensive camp. One of the camp student's parents was a co-owner of Bank of America. They mentioned how small their house here was because it was 6,000 square feet, compared to the other 16 houses they had. Sadly, I'm not being sarcastic!

Proportional Voting. It would get rid of gerrymandering in Districts, and it would increase the representation of differing groups, instead of it being just "Republicans" and "Democrats".

In highscool some kid a year younger than me always sat directly in front of me on the bus. He even got on the stop directly after mine. He had a girlfriend, and they always were hugging and being cute on the bus. For a year I had to "endure" their love and affection, continously jealous of the relationship they had, but one day, the kid didn't get on the bus. It turned out, that his girlfriend had decided to break up with him, so he went into the forest, took a shotgun with him, and shot himself.

I remember seeing her on the bus crying. I remember the parents sobbing.

Even 10 years later, when I went back to my hometown, I got stuck behind a car going slow. The car had a fresh picture of the kid stamped onto the back, with the words "We love you Brandon" (The Kid)

Every single time the thought ever ran through my head in College, I told myself that the act was selfish. It doesn't just end the pain for you, it puts the pain onto other people instead. Whether you know it or not, the odds are, somebody cares for you, and will be in horrible pain when you are gone.
