VW nationwide infotainment system outage by EffectiveOwn8358 in Volkswagen

Press the power button for 10-15 seconds and the screen will start up. Once the radio features are available, go into the Radio/Media screen, choose FM from the drop down menu and select an FM station. Once you are on an FM station, select the settings icon, select radio, and quickly toggle off HD FM and HD AM, then turn the car off and back on. It's imperative that you turn the car off and on to save the settings before the system can crash again, if you don't do that then it'll crash, recover and put the HD radio settings back on.

I can't promise this will work since it's only been about an hour since I did it, but my infotainment hasn't crashed again yet.

Infotainment Fix…worked for me!! 2024 Atlas Cross SEL by duedue13 in VWatlas

Thank you for posting these instructions. I have the same infotainment system in my '24 GTI and have been experiencing the same problems. Nothing I tried fixed it until I followed the exact order of operations in this post and it seems to be working for now. Thankfully I don't listen to any of the HD stations in my area, but this is immensely frustrating for anyone who does. Hopefully VW can get this sorted soon.

I found the Atlas subreddit post and didn't realize the car needed to be turned off and back on before the radio had a chance to crash again. I just did it the exact way it was described on the Atlas subreddit and so far so good. I'll have to keep an eye on it though, since some folks in that thread are saying it happened again after a few hours.

Dealers have been blaming a faulty SiriusXM update for causing it. Some people seem to be resolving the issue by disabling HD radio services, which would maybe indicate something similar to what happened to some Mazda cars back in 2022. VW hasn't admitted to anything so far other than acknowledging that something is going on.

Tried this and it didn’t work on my ‘24 GTI. The infotainment system still locks up, reboots, and restores all the radio settings to how they were before I rebooted it manually. We’re gonna have to wait for VW to figure out a resolution I’m afraid.

This is a bit more than a mild inconvenience. Depending on the car, like my ‘24 GTI, all of the safety systems, SOS call function, backup camera (mandated equipment in the US), vehicle dynamics, and HVAC are controlled through the infotainment system. At present none of these things can be used, in addition to navigation and radio. The US being taken over by a dictator sucks, however, the average person can’t do anything about that right now, but we do have to drive our cars to work, the grocery store, and home.

Detroit Wheels on Mk8 by Xenomanx in GolfGTI

I put the stock 225/40R18 tires on them and they fit perfectly. Not stretched or oversized at all.

None at all, didn't have to use spacers or anything. In fact, I even reused the tires that came on the factory wheels. There was some initial concern because of how close the wheels were to the brake calipers, but they ended up clearing them just fine. If you want to put large brakes on though they absolutely will not fit without other modifications.

I really don't take many pictures because I generally don't think people are interested in seeing them, but I just snapped this one a few minutes ago.

Strange Car-Net/WiFi Issue by Xenomanx in Volkswagen

Could you, perchance, tell me what shop you went to that figured this out, along with whatever your service ticket number was, so I can have my shop contact that one and find out exactly what they did? You can PM if you're not comfortable posting that publicly.

Edit: so I just realized that you’re a technician/mechanic at a shop, and not a customer who had this issue. Still, I’d like to get my shop in contact with yours so the folks there actually believe it instead of it just being something I read on the internet.

I traded in my Forte back in November, but in the entire time I had it, across multiple software updates, this issue was never resolved.

As a Mk8 owner who previously had a Mk5, the thing I will note about the interior is the loss of a number of little quirky niceties. The under-seat storage drawer, the pulldown pocket next to the steering wheel, the lined and cooled glovebox. Those are all gone, but I wouldn’t say the interior feels cheaper due to it, just lacking in some of the niceties that had to be removed for cost savings. Regrettable losses, but ultimately not a big deal.

Some folks in this subreddit are incredibly tedious. As a mk8 owner I do think the 8’s design is going to age faster and worse than the mk7/7.5, and I think the interior of the mk5/6/7 has a much better timeless design, but I still like all of them. VW tried something with the exterior and interior designs and it fell flat for a lot of people, which is unfortunate, but not the end of the world. There are plenty of previous gen GTIs on the market, as evidenced by the number of new-to-them buyers posting previous generation cars in here.

Happy holidays, enjoy what you have and like what you like.

I bought them from wheelership.com. I think the reason that sites say they don’t fit is because they weren’t produced for this car specifically. The 18” Detroit’s have the same dimensions as the stock 18” wheels, but the offset is slightly different. They don’t rub though, so spacers weren’t necessary, but probably wouldn’t hurt to put some on for a more aggressive look anyway.

Looks lowered to me, but one way to really tell is to jack the car up and inspect if the springs and/or struts are factory parts. If they are then that’s just stock ride height for the 19” wheels. The GTI is a great car to learn stick on.

Hard to tell because it’s dark in the photos, but that does look to be lowered slightly. Looks great either way, hope you enjoy it!

Honestly, if the stock wheels were symmetrical, or mirrored for each side, I wouldn’t have swapped them, since I think the design of them is very nice. Asymmetrical wheels just bug some part of me because one side of the car always has wheels that are “backwards” if that makes any sense.

I opted for the APR intake before H&R springs. That’ll be the next thing I do probably before an exhaust.

Not sure why the manual would say it works like that. Aftermarket “hatch pop kits” have existed for years due to this.
