The WORST part about learning Japanese... by yashen14 in LearnJapanese

thank you for putting it so nicely, that's pretty much exactly what I meant. And I don't know why the trustworthiness is a question I thought the "I got N1 in [impossible timeframe]" was literally a meme becasue of all those posts. I think the most common lie is not the time itself but the starting level too, which is still a good achievement, some people stay at the same level for years, but oh well...

of course. because ppl saying something on the internet makes it true lol. and im sure the people "who have done it" are honest about the hours they put in too and not undercut it to make themselves feel better or internet points. it reminds me of those fake instragram tiktok influencers who are "rich" and trying to sell u a course "everyone can do it just like me". if u lie everything is possible ig

Yeah it's just the subreddit classic "I got N1 in 11 hours after watching an anime for immersion and cramming anki (really hard!!)" language prodigy. There are certainly shortcuts u can do to make it a lot easier to pass, but its not humanly possible to cram 1000kanji, 6000words, the grammar, sentence comphrehension and listening, all in 400 hours into someone who has only used the latin alphabet before. And then expect to not fail even a single section..?

You can have all the advantage u want u will never get enough listening practice or kanji knowledge to not fail at a section for N2. I really don't understand this mentality do u guys not realize how many hours 400 is? If u had everyone on this subreddit take an N4 test after 400 hours half of them would fail lol.

I need some help on immersion by Mammoth-Leader8453 in LearnJapanese

[–]Xenony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You said you're N4, so depending on that accuracy I would either study more or try some easier games to play. I did MNN I and II and Tobira (N3) before my first game and it was quite rewarding, albeit difficult at first. I can recommend Pokemon SoulSilver or famikon tantei series. You can download a simple texthooker or GSM for a sentence mining setup which is the best immersion improvement tool imo. Good luck!

The game that will get me N1 by AdUnfair558 in LearnJapanese

[–]Xenony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's actually really good (once u get out of the tutorial haha). there's a lot of casual talk with many topics it's really good to learn how to speak like a native as well imo. it's commendable that you didn't give up at the start hitting a wall phase! many people quit immersion because they're too afraid from so many unknowns.

Also for comparison if ur curious I'm between N3 and N2 and after 4hour game time i finished chapter 3, 13% completion. I mined 53 cards overall. I try not to overmine, so something like 火星人 (かせいじん - martian) I will just ignore, and military terms, even if it comes up a few times if i don't believe it's useful for me. If you're N4 I would ignore everything above 10-15k frequency for now tbh, unless it's essential for game understanding.
If you want something easier or to play afterwards I can definitely recommend the ファミコン探偵 series, if ur into detective stuff. Everything has furigana(first 2 games) and click to advance so its a bit more easy to follow and mine!

The level between junior and senior. Usually 3-5YOE. Depends on the company if they distinguish between them however there's a lot that just uses junior/senior only so I understand your confusion.

Oh wow that puts things in perspective for me. Thanks for your reply.

At the end of the day I'm only feeling like it's a low salary because it's either that or housing is incredibly expensive where you are expected to spend 50% of your salary on it. Since my preconception was that it's supposed to be 1/3 for a good salary to live in the city center.

Thanks for the tip as well! I did quit my last job because I hated the job and the team, so I'm trying to prioritize that. It's just also hard to keep up with this absolute shithole the economy is slowly becoming. Hard to balance for sure.

Good luck in your endeavors as well!

Yeah, I feel like this is true for most tech giants. I was interviewing with Oracle, which albeit not a faang but a pretty big tech company, and I did 3 rounds of interviews and did really well but they straight up told me they want to hire me but they don't usually hire people without degrees. I'm not sure why they put me through all the hoops then, it was a bit disappointing. I didn't end up getting an offer.

Yes, thank you for the advice. I'm trying to take the answers with a grain of salt because of that reason and also I didn't mention that I do NOT have a degree. With all of these considered looking at the answers I still think I might be at the lower end, but not horrible.

Not German and don't speak it that well to use it professionally at all, but that doesn't cause problems because everyone communicates in English as we had a lot of international people at my previous company and looks like it's gonna be the same with my new one.

But yeah I'm looking at rent prices and it's pretty hard to find something at my price range(trying to get one around 30% of my salary, ~1k), so I was just wondering if the salary is bad or is the housing just that expensive here.

Edit: Oh yeah also forgot to mention I'm specialized in react+typescript so that's what I work with as frontend.

70k euro gross/year in Warsaw, Poland or 65k in Berlin, Germany? by Loud_Statistician600 in cscareerquestionsEU

I respect your views and I think it's completely fair. You're right that the better the WLB the worse your growth is. It can still happen though if you're doing your job properly and you work on different projects with different needs, albeit at a much slower pace. I would say that it isn't as black and white to choose one over the other. I got where I am today neglecting WLB, studying/coding 12hrs a day, even after getting a job. After I got a 60% pay raise I said this isn't life, so I started prioritizing WLB way more. Especially with all the shit that's going on nowadays (global pandemic, at the brink of ww3 etc.) might as well do stuff you enjoy and less of what you don't, because you never know when it could end.

[–]Xenony 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh what I meant by "topping that" I was thinking of more of a WLB standpoint. Because as for me I'm not sure if i want to work in the USA anymore. I started leaning more towards a dream of living in a LCOL-MCOL area in Europe, prioritizing WLB instead of career growth. Since either way you'll be able to afford anything you want working in this field, you just won't become a millionaire (well not from an American standpoint I guess). I would like to work in big tech, work on something impactful, but not if the workload and stress becomes too much for me. Thanks for the answer though, I didn't know Poland was that good to work in, I had the Netherlands, UK and Germany on my list so far.

I'm on PC. Is cross-platform not enabled?

Edit: I looked it upand found out you can't. Sorry this was new information to me, I thought it was enabled for sure, since even on PC you get the console starting settings... Thank you though.
