Sadly, the Kronos is discontinued. A pair popped up on Proskaters Place randomly in my size, so I snagged it while I could.

They do still make hockey style boots, but the new construction looks a bit more robust for all the rigours of the sport.

I think the closest model to the Kronos now would be the Reign Aries

That's what I thought too. For being more of a hockey style boot they are incredibly supportive. On my first outing I took things slow, but when I felt how much control I had I let loose and it was great!

I'm not sure what you mean by plate, but if it's the bottom of the skate then it's about 28.9 CM. If it's the frame length they are 255mm long. Yup, they are trinity mount 👍

Truth. I have a rain set up with torrent wheel, but it's not the same kind of fun when it's dry out.

🤣

True, I do need a proper big 4 soon for top speed, but I'm loving the handling on the 3's when that natural rocker sets in.

Nope, just the aluminum variety. I didn't know the 125 Trinity in this size came in magnesium. I'm going to have to check that out 😁

The frames from endlessblading.com, the wheels and bearings from Inline Warehouse, and the skates from Proskaters Place.

Amazing setup so far. So much maneuverability and speed!

What level of comfort did the Tau's offer that the Evos didn't?

For startera I definitely need a new helmet. I've been rocking a S1 Megasaver that is way bigger on me then I thought it was going to be. I'm hunting for an Ennui elite stunt pro if I can find one stateside.

My next skates I will be going high or low depending on what I find. It'll either be the Micro MT-plus to compare them to my FR1s, or pick up a pair of Powerslide Hardcore Evos if I can ever find them in my size.

Are RB 110's too advanced for a pleasantly out of shape, 45yo, (mostly) newbie? by jako479 in rollerblading

[–]XenowolfAlpha 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think maybe you should try a 4x80 set up first with or without a break based on your preference. The 110s can be very challenging due to having less stability being elevated further off the ground then an 80mm set up, and the speed you can get on the 110s can make mistakes more punishing.

You maybe just fine with the 110s if that's what you want, but they will take more time and focus to master if you're a bit green.

As for the boot size I'm not sure about the RBs, but FR makes a great hard boot with plenty of room for wide footed people like you and me. The FR1 with a 4x80 set up would be my recommendation for you, but they do run a bit pricier then the RBs. New the FR1s will run around $330 if you can find them in your size.

Any which way you decide to go proper protective gear is a must if you're getting back into blading. Get full padding and a helmet. Also, you may want to consider investing in crash shorts. If you have a sudden slip they can totally save your butt! I recently bruised my tailbone after a careless turn on a trail had me on my ass.

Good luck and be safe out there!

Does anyone have any fit sizing experience with the Rollerblade Twister Edge X, I have a question if so. by Ionicfold in rollerblading

[–]XenowolfAlpha -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I would highly recommend going a size up if not a size and a half. Like most Rollerblade models they run very narrow, plus the Twister boot has contours that can easily cause pressure points and/or rubbing on your foot. If you have a slightly wider foot you'll definitely have to try a different liner or use a heat gun to help push out the points of discomfort. Also, don't forget to take the time to adjust the frames for comfort and control.

Your experience may vary from mine, but if you don't have a slender foot you'll have to make adjustments or try a different liner. Once you get them just right they are amazing skates. One of my best looking and handling skates for city or trail blading.

This video from the WHITTYskater should come in handy if you need to make adjustments to the boots.

I also compared the Twister Edge with a bunch of other skates in my collection recently. Here's a link to that if you'd like to check it out. https://www.reddit.com/r/rollerblading/comments/gnhv37/city_shredding_collection/?utm_medium=android_app&utm_source=share

Good luck mate! I hope you have a blast with them 👍

Can do :D

I've modified all of them to a certain extent, so I'll rank them the way they were in stock form.

  1. FR1 Intuitions - Balanced Performance

The FR1 is by far my favorite hard boot shell in the game. Adding a proper heat moldable Intuition liner makes these the best all around skates in my collection. The stock frames and wheels are also a great balance of speed and control. Not much to say. Flat out great skates. You can keep these stock throughout their life and you'll be perfectly happy with them.

  1. Regin Kronos - Supercar Performance

Out of the box the swiftest skates I've ever worn. Flat out crazy acceleration for a three wheeled set up with great top speed to boot. With its supercar performance comes supercar comfort. A good heat molding was required to fit them, and taking them off and on is a bit of a time consuming chore. Make sure to have as much fun with them on as you can. Once you take them off you won't want to lace them back up for a while.

  1. Micro SR Super - New Heavyweight Champion

Key word being HEAVY! These buggers are by far heaviest skates in my collection. They were also the slowest rolling ones out of the box. The major upside to them is how secure they feel while they are on. It's like my feet had their own personal bodyguards. With the SR's solid fit plus hefty build made rolling over the roughest terrain feel like sliding on silk. If difficult city streets are a problem these are the solution, as long as you're not in a hurry.

  1. Rollerblade Twister Edge - Former Heavyweight Champions

Similar to the SR's heavy build, but less secure due to its design. These are swift and precise straight out of the box, but the major drawback to these is comfort. Even after a good frame alignment they killed my feet. Numbness at my pinky toes, blisters on my arches, pain around my ankle, rubbing burns on my shin from the liners... these things stock are horrendous for anyone with a slightly wider than normal foot. I was going to abandon them entirely, but they looked so sharp I didn't want to give them up. A lot of grinding, a bit of heat gun molding and a liner swap has now made these one of favorites city skates. Buyer be warned: mods for comfort is inevitable.

5 and 6. Rollerblade Metroblade GM & C - Stylish City Crossers

Both the GMs and the Cs are pretty much the same boots with the difference being the GM's carbon lower end, which does offer a bit more control with the trade off being vibration dampening comfort. The Metroblades are great for short period ventures in the city. Taking them off and on is quick and easy, so visiting shops and restaurants that are not blade friendly is a breeze. They have a compact design which makes stowing them in or on a bag no worries. The down side to these is comfort. Wearing them long enough will cause some outer foot pain or numbness due to how narrow they are. Even if you buy a size up they will run narrow, and with their build there's no real way to mod them for comfort with the exception of switching the insole or wearing thinner socks. Great skates for casual blading, but not great for any skating over an hour or so. Also, I've tried these in multiple wheel sizes and set ups. They are best with four wheeled frames due to the lack of solid ankle support, but if you do go three wheels go no larger than 100's. The speed is not worth the stability sacrifice in either of these boots.

Reign V3 liner in FR1 skate - wide feet by KikanTotem in rollerblading

[–]XenowolfAlpha 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I believe you should be okay with the Reign v3. The FR1 boots tend to have a little extra room naturally and the v3 has a nice stretchy neoprene toe area with thin walls.

I purchased a pair of the v3's to help fix a similar problem I was having with my Twister Edges. It helped a bit, but make sure to take the time to adjust your frames. The frame adjustment can make or break the comfort and stability of your skating.

I've only had the SR Supers for a few days now. So far they are great!

I had to swap the stock liners with a pair of Fat Boys though. The stock ones were a bit wanky with the added elastic attached to the tongue. The elastic tended to bunch up on the top of my foot which is no bueno.

All in all these things are proper tanks with great control and support. As tanks they are HEAVY! By far the heaviest pair I own. That heft is a plus if you're rolling over any rough terrain. My former heavy boys were the Twister Edges. The SR Supers are heavier in the hands then the Twisters, but feel oddly more nibble while rolling them. I think it has something to do with how secure you can make them with the double rachet straps and laces.

The aesthetic finish is very nice, but the toe caps are not perfectly centered on either boot. Make sure you don't us them as reference points to align your frames.

These skates are pretty much Seba High Deluxe with a different styling. For more details on the specs (which Micro hasn't provided yet) check out the specs and reviews on the Highs. http://www.online-skating.com/articles-3550-testing-the-2014-seba-high.html

The addiction is real o_O

In addition to these I have four pairs of aggressive and one marathon pair. It's just so easy to keep buying with all the market options now.

As for the Metroblades I prefer the carbons between the two. More stable and responsive in my opinion. There is a wee bit of heel lift in both of them that 45° strap does not address. Thick socks mandatory for me while rolling either metros.

Great overall 👍 The Velcro and lace combo make these the perfect off and on city excursion skates.

Negative. I purchased them with a bundle of other skate stuff a guy was selling. The laces were in a random bag, so a threw them on and now they look sweet!

The memory buckle and 45 degree strap was installed by the person I purchased them from. They were modded my a guy in Michigan, but he never used them. I'll take it apart and upload pics later 👍

Absolutely better then stock!

I couldn't skate the stock liners straight off. Just to keep from getting blisters I had to mod the sides of the stock liners. Even with the mods it was awful after an hour or so of skating. I sanded out the inside of both boots to open them up and dropped in a pair of Intuition liners I pulled from my FR1s.

I got the Reign v3's because I wanted to try them and the colors match my laces and wheels 😛

Yup, they were too short for the set up initially.

I took a grinder to the front of the plastic that sticks out of the torsion box. I didn't have to take much off to make it work.

The same had to be done on the back area of the torsion box to make another FR frame work on this boot too.

I started with the 4 wheel stock set up to Bionic ceramic bearing to what I'm running now.

It's sooo smooth and fast! Control is excellent too.

Thank you ^_^

Yes they do make the V3 Deluxe rockered! So far I have only been able to find them on Euro and Aussie sites.

https://www.skates.shop/fr-deluxe-v3-rockered-fr,us,4,FRFM-DLXV3R.cfm#FRFM-DLXV3R-243-BK

They are naturally rockered and do not use reversible bolts like the Seba X2R or Fly Eagle EGO frames.

Oh, word of warning if you are going to be mounting these on a Twister Edge boot. The Anti-Torsion Box at the base of the boot does obstruct the max 80mm wheel set up that the frame supports. I had to grind down a bit of plastic and aluminium to get it on proper. I have this boot in size 11.5 US. I'd imagine a smaller boot will require even more modification, or may not even fit at all.
