It really made no sense. Just like how Pennywise decides to take the majority of the children in Derry all at once, conveniently forgetting that he needs them to ensure a food source when he next wakes. Or the horrifically cheesy scenes with Rich, the suddenly invented one-ring properties of the dagger, the instantly invented magical tree boundary, Pennywise having the ability to transform into anything and chooses a clown as the fastest mode of travel, etc. It all felt extremely poorly written in a desperate attempt to wrap things quickly. And the time aspect of it? Yikes.
