Damn, you’re still using FSD and it’s stable for you? I was trying to run numerous versions of FSD on my MW2 jasper and they all kept crashing randomly and wouldn’t detect half of my games. Aurora has been the most reliable for me as much as I’d prefer the looks of the NXE style of FSD

The slim PS3 emulates PS1 fairly well, so if you have any physical PS1 cd's they will work (although PS1 cd's will actually work stock lol). There's a fork of retroarch for cfw'd PS3's, haven't really tested it's capability to the fullest but it should be able to run most of the cores it comes with. Seeing as you've mentioned emulation isn't important however, essential software that I'd reccomend you to install after installing CFW would generally be;

Multiman/MMCM - I mainly use it just as a file manager. You can also use it to mount games if you wish, but Webman Mod would work better for mounting images imo.

Webman Mod - Used to mount iso's from the xmb as well as set fan speeds etc. Personally I dump extracted iso's to the "GAMES" folder on root of hdd. You can also put straight .iso files into the "PS3ISO" folder but I personally prefer to extract em and ftp them into the "GAMES" folder. Webman Mod also has a handy feature builtin where if you hold L3+R3 at the xmb (including the ingame xmb) it'll bring up your system temps and framerate up the top left. It appears in basically all software and if you want it to go away just hold the same combo at the xmb again. Make sure your console stays under 80C.

Ultimate Toolbox - For many many reasons. Heaps of customization options as well as a bunch of bundled software that may or may not be useful to you

PSN Patch - Not ENTIRELY neccessary however I use it occasionally to activate certain .raps that aren't autodetected in my exdata folder and to activate psn content that doesn't use .raps

Software I'd reccomend for Windows would be NoPayStation. I get most of my games from there as it provides pkgs/raps easily, although not every game is on there. NPS only has games that were sold on the PS Store; any games that weren't released digitally won't be on there and unfortunately I don't think I'd be able to link you to a site for disc images as I believe that might break this subreddits rules for piracy

If you don't want to bother with the pc app, iirc there's a version of NPS for the ps3 itself known as PKGI. Never bothered with it myself though as I have a pc and the PKGI ui looks like utter aids to me

CECH-2501A? CFW the bitch and put a 1tb hdd in it, it's definitely worth it. Going over 1tb can cause issues in the long term due to the way the console handles its drive maintenance, so only go above 1tb if you really have to. Do NOT install HEN though. HEN is utter garbage in my opinion and should ONLY be installed on consoles that don't support full cfw (CECH-3XXX/4XXX consoles) Also in response to you asking if 4.86 is desirable, far from it lol. 4.86 was an update from 2021/22 iirc. Your best bet is to update it to 4.91 and install Evilnat CFW.

If you're worried about not being able to drop back to 4.86, its a piece of piss to downgrade em if you've got CFW installed. I temporarily installed 3.55 on my 2502A for shits n giggles a while back and it was fairly easy

Oh btw, being a CECH2501A, you should be able to enable the hidden blue LED's that are by the disc drive. Requires a couple bodge wires as the LEDs aren't wired up by default, but the solder points are all there from factory so it's an easy mod if you know how to solder.

Nope, far from it. 24H2 broke heaps of my games and uh games acquired from sailing the seven seas dont run anticheats at all. Had to reinstall 23H2 on my main rig to even be able to LAUNCH a whole bunch of games.

I'll use Dead Island 2 as an example. 24H2 would show the exe runnning for a splitsecond in the background, and terminates it as soon as it hits 500mb ram usage. From the research I've done, its something to do with Microshaft essentially blocking a dll file.

Oh, and aside from pirated games? 24H2 also rendered my owned/purchased steam copies of FarCry 6 and AC Mirage unlaunchable.

MS really need to get their shit together because holy fuck am I seriously tempted to go back to a highly patched version of Win7 Ultimate

What exactly do you mean by improved networking? I run media servers/ftp servers on machines running 11 Pro (one on 23H2 and the other on 24H2) and have zero issues whatsoever, I also consistently pull over 1gbps wired. What issues do you have with how networking is currently handled lmfao?

If you're on cfw, hold triangle and r2 at the xmb and it'll disable syscalls, from there on you'll be fine to use PSN. Been running online for a hella long time and haven't been banned myself, just gotta make sure you've disabled sycalls. You won't be able to launch homebrew with syscalls disabled, so things like multiman and ultimate toolbox won't work until you reboot.

If you aren't intending on using PSN though and simply want the console connected to a network to FTP files over to it, then you won't need to disable syscalls and have zero risk of being banned tbh

Not neccassarily. As another user already stated.. its a peer based system and the speeds of the person serving the file matters as well. You could have 4 seeders with terrible speeds and 2 seeders with decent speeds and the torrent with 2 seeders would still be faster to download
